Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Red Dead Redemption 2 stands as one of the most impressive games of its generation. Rockstar's masterpiece delivers a narrative packed with twists, superb gameplay, breathtaking visuals, and a phenomenal soundtrack. That's a lot of praise, isn't it? Indeed, it is a cut above the rest, with a final result that reflects the many years the title spent in development; it's clear that meticulous care was poured into every minute detail.

The goal of Minecraft Dungeons isn't to be a complex game, but rather to surprise players with a positive experience, and it succeeds at doing so remarkably well. Venturing into uncharted waters, the title serves as a great entry point for newcomers to the dungeon crawler genre and should particularly appeal to Minecraft fans. With no classes or skill trees, players have complete freedom to choose their gear based purely on the descriptions provided.

Boasting stellar gameplay, the game takes care to ensure we make the most of every unlocked mechanic. With each new area, the challenges shift, new enemy types are introduced, and we must figure out how to handle it all through trial and error. Striking just the right balance of challenge, Ori and the Blind Forest features a healthy amount of secrets scattered across the map, and backtracking to previously explored areas is always rewarding.

Introducing players to the drama of two brothers left completely helpless after a tragic incident, Life is Strange 2 delivers an engaging, varied story packed with major twists. The characters' charm allows players to quickly connect with the Diaz brothers' story, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Introducing brand-new mechanics, the game strikes a solid balance between frantic combat encounters and quieter sessions of exploration and puzzle-solving. The narrative is easily on par with a Star Wars film, even if it leans on a few tropes. Jedi: Fallen Order proves that Electronic Arts can still deliver great single-player games set in the Star Wars universe.

Immersing players in an alternate—and somewhat futuristic—post-World War II reality, Wolfenstein: The New Order delivers a thoroughly enjoyable experience. While not groundbreaking, the game excels at executing its core premise.

Down to its finest details, the game's world guides us through this enigmatic journey. It's a title fundamentally about discovering the unknown.

Boasting beautiful and varied environments, The Outer Worlds is a well-crafted RPG, a real treat for those seeking a game with rich dialogue and deep characters. Offering gameplay variety, the title lets players progress however they see fit, even if their actions impact their story progression. Choices dictate everything in the game, including the difficulty you'll face to reach the credits: since any NPC can be killed, if you decide to eliminate a character tied to the main storyline, the challenge of reaching the end will certainly be greater.

Delivering a linear, narrative-focused experience, What Remains of Edith Finch is a niche game with no intention of targeting a massive player base. It is a walking simulator with no puzzles to overcome. The experience provided by its interactive story is the game's highlight, and it is certainly what will compel someone to pick it up.

Gears 5 delivers everything a Gears of War fan expects: a dramatic story, standout combat encounters, and dynamic multiplayer. The Coalition wasn't lying when they promised the game would feature the largest campaign in the entire franchise: beyond its longer playtime, the narrative is remarkably well-developed across its four acts. Paired with gorgeous visuals and fluid gameplay, the title definitively delivers an experience far superior to its predecessor.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider brings a satisfying close to the trilogy that set out to tell Lara Croft's origin story. The game features fewer action and gunplay set pieces, but that didn't bother me, as the deeper environmental exploration—heavily reminiscent of the franchise's earliest entries—more than made up for the shift.

As a point-and-click game, I expected to find broader options for environmental interactions. Since the areas aren't particularly large to begin with, almost every action available in a given location is tied directly to the main objective. Taking all these factors into account, the title delivers an experience inferior to what was seen in the first two seasons of The Walking Dead.

While Sleeping Dogs isn't groundbreaking, it excels at executing its core premise, with its hand-to-hand combat and parkour mechanics taking center stage. The game brings together proven mechanics from across the industry to deliver a satisfying gameplay loop. Coupled with this, the campaign mode features a well-crafted story filled with solid plot twists and surprising moments.

Lara Croft GO is a simple yet challenging turn-based puzzle game, allowing players to test their logical thinking skills by solving puzzles set in abandoned ruins populated only by wildlife and traps. The minimalist visual style is stunning, and the soundtrack is thoroughly pleasant.

The Wolf Among Us delivers an outstanding and memorable narrative, placing familiar characters in entirely new settings. For those who—like me—haven't read the Vertigo comics, the game serves as a great entry point into the Fables universe.

Never Alone offers players an incredible cultural experience, a unique opportunity to learn about a people who have inhabited one of the coldest regions on Earth—northern Alaska—for centuries. However, it's worth noting that the game suffers from technical bugs that hinder the overall experience, occasionally leading to moments of frustration.
