Portal E7's Reviews
I don't know if a remake of a 2013 game was really necessary, but the fact is that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced manages to perfectly replicate the great experience provided by the original version, modernizing mechanics, bringing new features that expand the game's universe, and cutting segments that added little to Edward Kenway's journey. It is an extremely fun game, both for newcomers and those revisiting the Caribbean seas.

Following up on the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Rebirth takes us on an exploration of a vast world that has a lot to tell us. It is a game that addresses aspects related to the characters' pasts and prepares us to face an uncertain future, with the threat of Sephiroth looming constantly. By introducing new combat mechanics, the encounters offer a wide range of possibilities, allowing players to shape how they will approach battles. The way the title handles alternate realities, however, ends up making the plot a bit confusing to follow.

With a sci-fi campaign that does not aim for a groundbreaking narrative, Pragmata manages to stand out due to the excellent relationship developed between its protagonists. The game succeeds in balancing lighthearted interactions with exploration and intense combat blended with puzzles. The futuristic setting works very well, featuring a strong and highly distinctive visual identity, accompanied by a soundtrack that is almost always subtle, yet still delivers some genuinely memorable tracks.

Easily being one of the most visually impressive indie games of recent years, Replaced features a cyberpunk narrative that addresses themes such as inequality and the value of life in a crumbling society that privileges a select group of people at the expense of others. Sustained by a solid and immersive atmosphere, the narrative is not exactly innovative, but it features good pacing, handles its world-building well, and creates interesting parallels between machines and human beings.

There is no denying it: Mouse: P.I. for Hire is a game that knows how to have style. The idea of combining the look of 1930s animation with a noir story starring an anthropomorphic mouse worked incredibly well. While handling a detective story that gathers everything expected from works in that genre, the game addresses the problems within the city of Mouseburg, drawing direct parallels with the situations we face in our own reality. These aspects are complemented by fast-paced and extremely fun gameplay, resulting in an arcade shooter title that can easily hook you.

Reunion delivers an adventure worthy of what Max and Chloe represent in the Life is Strange franchise. Despite them being placed in a completely different setting and context, Deck Nine managed to maintain the essence of the bond between the two characters. While trying to prevent a tragedy from happening, they find themselves entangled in a narrative that explores the mysteries and conflicts within the city of Lakeport. The plot may fall short in a few minor aspects, but it hits the mark on what can be considered the most relevant points.

Requiem brings together the best of what the Resident Evil franchise has done in recent years into a single game. Betting on two distinct gameplay styles and giving the player the choice to experience the adventure in first and/or third-person, Capcom seems to have found a perfect balance of mechanics, making the survival horror moments with Grace masterfully complemented by the action segments with Leon. This refinement is certainly the result of a deep analysis of everything the series has built throughout its thirty-year history.

Visually stunning, the game features puzzles that explore uncommon mechanics. Everything is a matter of perspective: what the player sees or doesn't see directly influences the resolution of the challenges.

Ryse: Son of Rome is the typical example that summarizes a well-known phrase in the gaming community: games are not just about graphics. Despite being very impressive visually and having an excellent soundtrack, the game falls short by featuring repetitive and unchallenging gameplay, combined with a short campaign mode.

The main selling point of Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is without a doubt its gameplay, which proposes a diversified experience in platforming games by mixing in new puzzle elements. Often being tricky, the game handles the trial-and-error system very well, without leaving the player frustrated.

It is very good to see that Layers of Fear did not resort to techniques that easily jumpscare the player; the fear comes from the entire atmosphere created, combined with the supernatural visions that the protagonist has during gameplay.

Introducing several new mechanics, Syndicate managed, in a way, to restore the prestige of the series after the disastrous launch of Assassin's Creed Unity. With fluid and highly interactive gameplay, the game provides a good experience for the player, combined with well-crafted visuals and an interesting, well-told story.

If you are looking for an action game with constant shootouts, Quantum Break might not be for you. The game does have its action sequences, which are very fun, but the heavy focus on the narrative constantly breaks this vibe. If it is not to enjoy the story, it is preferable that you look for something else to play. Now, if you are an admirer of games with well-crafted narratives, dive deep, explore every corner of the scenario, and have the patience to read the e-mails on the computers (some are really very long).

Rise of the Tomb Raider is an excellent sequel to the reboot launched in 2013. The story, as expected, is full of mysteries and twists, which is great considering it is an adventure game.
