Unscored - Watch Dogs
May 29, 2014

Is Watch Dogs the genre defining experience we were expecting back in 2012? No, it isn't even close to that. Is it a bad game? Not by any stretch of the imagination.  It is a fun and entertaining experience that does have a couple of faults, but is more than worth your investment of money and time.

That said, it isn't a bad game, it is Worms and it does what a Worms game does. However because the game has barely changed over the years, it is far from essential to get each new version. At £19.99 it does take the game from a impulse purchase to something you really need to think about. But fans who do buy it will not be disappointed, because if you love Worms, you'll still love Worms.

Murdered: Soul Suspect is far from a perfect game, especially with some of the mechanics it has, that feel out of place. However the story and characters, along with the setting do a great job of entertaining and we'd definitely like to see more in the future.

9 / 10.0 - Mario Kart 8
Jun 4, 2014

Much like Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 shows that nobody makes games quite like Nintendo. A master class in design that shows how tragic it is that the Wii U finds itself in such dire straits. A sure fire system seller that everyone who owns the console should buy, and if you don't, now's the perfect time to buy one.

Unscored - MotoGP 14
Jun 19, 2014

MotoGP 14 won't be for everyone, but during a time when the number of racing games on the PS4 is at a minimum, it more than scratches that itch. There is plenty of value for money in the game for those who want to dive in.

Unscored - Blue Estate
Jun 25, 2014

Blue Estate isn't a long game and despite the leaderboards, it is unlikely to be one you'll revisit time and time again. However, it is genuinely fun to play and in the short time you spend with it, you'll get a great deal of enjoyment. If you have any interest in lightgun style games, then pick this up.

A few minor annoyances aside, the developers should be commended for not just putting together any old licensed pap and waiting for the One Piece fans to lap it up. A lot of effort has clearly gone into capturing what people enjoy about the anime, coupled with some strong gameplay and you have a worthy package for fans of the series.

Guacamelee was great first time around and Drinkbox have taken something fantastic and improved on it even more this time with this release. In short, you wont regret buying this, even if you have before. I for one am looking forward to a sequel, but before that, maybe just one more go…

Unscored - MouseCraft
Jul 8, 2014

Mousecraft is a really nice puzzle game, that walks the line just right between being too repetitive and easy, or going past the point of challenging to pure frustration. It found that middle ground and got the balance just right. However that lack of level sharing… Well, that really does disappoint.

Unscored - Crimsonland
Jul 15, 2014

Crimsonland isn't the Indie highlight of the year, but what you do have is a solid 2D Arena Shooter that works as a nice distraction when you may only have a short window for playing a game. You can stick it on, have a quick play and then get back to whatever you are doing. There is always a place for game like that in our opinion and it is more than welcome to take up what little space is does on the PS4 HDD.

Unscored - Rogue Legacy
Jul 20, 2014

Rogue Legacy is not a casual game, it is one that requires you to put a lot of time and effort in to get the most from it, accept that you will make little progress early on and need to learn how best to approach certain scenarios, but those who are willing to put the time in, you will be handsomely rewarded.

If you have played Abe's Oddyssey and loved it, then you'll love what has been achieved here, it is a game you loved and then so much more. If you are going to be experiencing the game for the very first time, then boy, are you in for a treat.

Unscored - The Swapper
Jul 27, 2014

The Swapper is a wonderful example of what a puzzle platformer should be and has set a very high bar for others that will follow. It is available across all three Sony platforms and that is welcome too, as it is a game that is very hard to put down once you get into it.

Diablo III was always decent with the basic mechanics, but it did have many issues that veterans of the series didn't like, but the Ultimate Evil Edition has ironed those issues out and produced one of the best co-operative games you can ever hope to play.

Unscored - Pure Pool
Jul 30, 2014

Pure Pool isn't perfect, there are a few minor niggles, such as a lack of a replay option for when you hit that perfect shot, or get extremely fluky. It would also be nice to see some of the other pool variation included, because as it is, it feels very bare in that regard. However, as an actual simulation of pool, VooFoo studios can be very proud of what they have created. They are the current kings of the pool hall.

Unscored - Road Not Taken
Aug 4, 2014

Road Not Taken is a game that deserves a place in your collection as despite taking cues from two popular genres, there is nothing like it on consoles. It is a game that will take over your time, but one that you can also just pick up and play between other games. Spry Fox have a spectacular hit on their hands.

A successful combination of both Layton and Wright. Maybe a little lengthy for its own good, with a story that could have ended a couple of hours earlier, it is nevertheless a great celebration of both series.

Surgeon Simulator is far from being a must own, it isn't going to appeal to everyone, but for those who fancy something that doesn't take itself seriously and just wants you to have a laugh, then this is an ideal pick up.

The Last Tinker: City of Colors isn't a game that will immediately grab your attention and is unlikely to change any opinions on the genre, but what you do have is a well put together middle of the road game that can be enjoyed by anyone with even a passing interest in platformers. Especially welcoming for those introducing children into gaming.

This is a SRPG that isn’t for everyone and whilst it isn’t totally inaccessible for newcomers, it is clearly a game designed for fans of the genre and more specifically the series itself.  But that’s no bad thing as for anyone willing to put in the time and effort there is a very rewarding experience on offer.
