Trackmania Turbo is a fast and challenging game, which offers a lot of content despite its small install size. It is, however, somewhat frustrating and demanding, which means that it won't be for everyone. That said, there's a large community of gamers who love this type of experience, and those folks will eat it up.
Samorost 3 is as frustrating as it is beautiful. It takes some interesting ideas, a gorgeous environment, and a fantastic soundscape and applies them to a gameplay formula that doesn't work quite as well as it should. And with its short playtime and weak motivation, there's not much reason to embark on a journey in this world.
Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO is a dated rally racing game that has a hard time being fun. It's a shame, too, because a lot of effort was put into recreating its real-world inspired tracks, and developing its incredibly lengthy career mode.
Slain! looks as gorgeous as we expected, but despite the numerous delays, the game is still a broken mess. Day of the Tentacle Remastered isn't just a simple port, it's also an amazing achievement in its own right. The new visuals are gorgeous, and the gameplay has been updated to be streamlined, yet still stay true to the original. Double Fine have outdone themselves here.
Kholat had a lot of potential, but is unfortunately hard to enjoy, due to frustrating gameplay and hard to decipher orienteering mechanics. It will appeal to the odd soul, who will fall in love with its disturbing and maze-like mountaintop setting, but most will come away annoyed.
MagNets: Fully Charged is a rather basic game, which ends up leaving a lot to be desired. Most will find it to be tedious and forgettable, although it does have a few okay moments.
With few stealth games on the market, République makes a strong impression, thanks to its carefully crafted narrative and world.
It's not great, but Senran Kagura Estival Versus offers up some low brow fun in multiplayer. Poor level design kills the single player experience, though.
As fun and quirky as its narrative may be, McDroid's attempt at changing up the tower defence genre makes for a frustrating experience. Its mechanics render gameplay a micro-managing nightmare that is repetitive and lacklustre.
It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but Mutant Mudds Super Challenge is some of the finest platforming you can buy. It's a highly polished package that will test your mettle as a gamer.
It's no surprise that Pokkén Tournament is good, but it is surprising that it feels so unique. It's a refreshing face in the fighting genre, and offers up a ton of fun.
Action Henk isn't all that it could have been, due to some slight control issues and a hefty dose of frustration. Those with lots of patience and masochistic tendencies may find something to love, but this is a game that definitely won't appeal to everyone. It's too bad, too, because there are some really solid building blocks to be found here, in a game that takes ideas from Joe Danger and Doritos Crash Course and tries to up the ante.
Consider the bar for MMA games officially raised, as EA Sports UFC 2 improves upon almost every facet of the original, while also introducing an intuitive new grappling system and realistic knockout engine.
If you're looking for a great, retro-styled platformer/Metroidvania game, then you can't go wrong with Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. It stands out above the crowd, thanks to smart and polished gameplay, and is a welcomed addition to the Xbox One's library.
