The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth isn't a game for everyone, with its crude settings and heavy use of religious iconography. However, it's just about as close to a perfect game as we've seen all year.
Assassin's Creed Rogue is more of the same, and resembles a Black Flag expansion more than an entirely new game. Still, despite its familiar gameplay tropes, it succeeds in concluding the series' American saga via a very interesting storyline.
Despite a wonderful premise, How To Survive: Storm Warning Edition is hampered by a forgettable plot and a lacklustre combat engine.
The Assassin's Creed series' first 'next-gen' only iteration should have launched to much fanfare. However, although Assassin's Creed Unity is a really good game, the coding behind it isn't up to par. The result is an enjoyable experience that is marred by unfortunate technical issues.
Randal's Monday has many things going against it, but fans of Clerks, Jeff Anderson, and unrelenting geek culture references will find a hardcore point-and-click adventure with plenty of storyline to justify its $25 price tag.
Konami has claimed the interactive soccer crown with Pro Evolution Soccer 2015. While last year's iteration was an obvious stepping stone, this one is the real deal, and may be the best soccer game ever made.
Civilization: Beyond Earth is decidedly deserving of carrying the weight of the franchise in a new direction, but it's simply lacking enough variety for it to become the new standard bearer.
NBA Live 15 is an appreciated step forward from last year's instalment. However, thanks to stiff gameplay and undercooked game modes, you'll want to draft NBA 2K15 instead.
Despite some technical hiccups and a few nagging issues that were carried over from the original series, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is an excellent and remarkably well put together compilation.
It's not revolutionary or redefining by any measure, but Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is by far the series' most refreshing, progressive and exciting outing in a long time, and that's no small feat.
Double Fine has brought back Wren and Reynolds in another adventure to save Halloween in Costume Quest 2, a sequel that manages to improve on almost every weak aspect of the first outing while pushing the story further in a way that's not incredibly ridiculous.
Dreamfall Chapters: Book One: Reborn is an intriguing addition to the franchise. But be warned, it's best played with some knowledge of the previous games in the series.
Samurai Warriors 4 is undoubtedly the same game we expected it to be, except with prettier graphics. If you're okay with that, then it's worth a purchase.
Despite the talent behind it, The Legend of Korra is too repetitive and bland to be worth recommending to anyone but fans of the television series.
Vibrant, exhilarating and absolutely bonkers, Sunset Overdrive provides a refreshing and wildly imaginative take on the apocalypse and is hands-down some of the most fun you'll have with your console all year.
Despite a solid core of intense races bolstered by beautiful cars, F1 2014 fails to add anything new to the series while removing features that made previous titles more robust and more fun.
Both fun and surprisingly immersive, Fantasia: Music Evolved is a great use of the Kinect that successfully builds on Harmonix's own past templates.
Bayonetta 2 doesn't look like a PS4 game, but you'd be hard-pressed to find anything else wrong with it. Sublime combat meets high-adrenaline action in perfect harmony, resulting in a game that elevates its genre to new heights. The only remaining question is how Platinum can possibly top this with a third game in the series.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel leaves us wanting, due to its overt familiarity. It's a decent game overall, but fails in its attempt at being something great.
While it's far from flawless or original, The Evil Within is packed full of terrifying scenes and is genuinely fun to play through, giving gamers a lengthy campaign and tons of memorable moments.
