HoPiko is simplistic and incredibly good fun. It's punishing, paced action makes you think and react so quickly you'll feel awesome when you succeed. Conversely, you will probably walk away from your console infuriated at times, but you'll come back for "just one more go."
Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas is a fun action adventure inspired by the classic Zelda series. While it mimics much of what makes those games great, it adds it's own brand of magic to the formula. Despite some simple combat, Oceanhorn is a worthy foray filled with peril and treasure. An enjoyable experience for adventure seekers everywhere!
Saturday Morning RPG maintains an enjoyably light-hearted and nostalgic atmosphere through its excellent soundtrack, 80's reference-filled writing, and entertaining special attacks. The experience is lessened by repetitive gameplay, outdated 3D graphics, and a not-as-strong-as-anticipated amount of replay value. Regardless, it's a worthy addition to any turn-based RPG fan's gaming library, especially if they love their 80's movies.
This is a very good lengthy adventure into a world populated with humans, aliens, and other beings. It can be enjoyed by everyone, but in a better way if you're familiar with the source material. Despite some technical shortcomings, it is a recommended purchase for those who want to experience an action-packed, good-looking 3D fighting game.
While it has a few issues with combat, Sylvio definitely has that special something. It's a unique take on psychological horror that manages to be frightening without resorting to cheap scares. The ghost recording concept works perfectly, weaving a harrowing tale that unfolds at just the right pace. Turn the lights down and listen....the dead are calling!
Ultimately, Styx: Shards of Darkness is a great game however, it is a STEALTH game, with no misconceptions of anything else thrown in, that must be understood. Sure, the satirical nature of the world might not get fleshed out quite as much as I'd have liked but the refreshing tone is more than enough as-is. The gameplay is fun and the options provide great replayability to each level. Not to mention, of course, Styx himself, who provides comedy and wit galore. If you're looking for a stealth title that will have you creeping cautiously through vast levels while trying not to laugh your head off, then Styx: Shards of Darkness is definitely the game for you
Monster of the Deep is a lot of good light hearted fun. Whilst there were a couple of little issues with calibration early on, an update fixed that pretty quickly. The minor complaints that I mentioned in the review didn’t effect my enjoyment of the game enough to stop me wanting to play it. All in all it’s a well designed game and I highly recommend this pick up for PSVR owners. It doesn’t matter if your not a Final Fantasy fan as the main fun of this game is the act of fishing. Being Square Enix’s first attempt at VR content, Monster of the Deep is a great start to what I hope will be many more VR experiences from them.
Before their mobile fame from the Infinity Blade franchise, Chair Entertainment produced in 2009 a game called Shadow Complex on Xbox 360 through the Xbox Live Arcade program. The game was very highly praised, and even received many nominations into the “Game of the Year” category. So the release of a remastered game 6-7 years after the original, on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is considered good news. I didn’t own an Xbox 360 console back then, but now have the chance to discover this gem from the past on my PS4.
Microsoft had been holding this exclusive title close to their chest and it's been in hiding for a long time showing these glimpses of greatness in demos. Do you get what's advertised, a time bending thriller of a shooter? Yes.
ReCore is a solid and fun game well worth the $40 price tag. There are some technical issues with framerate and load times but the gameplay more than makes up for it. If you are looking for an old school style game then ReCore has you covered.
Ubisoft promised a new feeling with Far Cry Primal, and in some sense they weren't completely wrong. Some mechanics of the game do feel slightly "copy and paste" from its earlier games – Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4, but it does bring its own taste and twists that puts this game in its own category.
The gameplay in Slain is fast, it's hard-hitting, and satisfying. The atmosphere is greatly immersing and the music excels at heightening the gameplay experience of every level. Only the number of cheap deaths and cheap projectile-focused enemies, along with the not-very-present replay value holds back an overall very enjoyable experience.
Overcooked is a great couch co-op game with fun gameplay and charming visuals. The game is best played with a group of friends and playing solo is extremely difficult. Lack of online multiplayer detracts slightly from the overall score. If you have the people to play with, I recommend picking this game up for a good party game.
Vertical Drop Heroes HD is great fun and has oodles of replayability. Given its low retail price, you will definitely get your monies worth for giving it a go. A fun and moreish experience. More of this please!
Another live service game launched by Ubisoft with decent success. Although not as polished as The Division 2 and Destiny, Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a worthy competitor in a very crowded part of the videogames market.
FIFA 17 improves in areas and then goes backwards in other areas. Journey Mode is a powerful addition and an exciting one at that. Ultimately, FIFA 17 is the best football game on offer as a whole package again this year but better than FIFA 16 I'm not totally convinced.
Solid gameplay can get repetitive, but the quirky art style keeps things interesting, and there is great replay value.
Ittle Dew 2 improves on the original in all departments. A larger world to explore, much better visuals and some of the catchiest tunes in gaming to date. It's biggest weakness is it's lack of innovation. Despite that, a sense of fun and a quirky attitude make Ittle Dew 2 a worthwhile and enjoyable dungeon crawler for casual and hardcore gamers alike!
Subterrain offers players an overall intense and challenging experience that's open-ended enough to allow players plenty of varying playthroughs. Although the overly simplistic combat and clunky U.I can hamper some enjoyment, the game's in-depth crafting and loot system, greatly effective atmosphere, and its plentiful amount of weapons helps make Subterrain a worthy visit to any player who wishes to get a top-down view of what other sci-fi protagonists like Isaac Clarke and Doom Guy see up close and personal.
Ultimately, I feel that Deck13 Interactive has established themselves, showing a willingness to adapt and experiment with the gameplay and genre present in Lords of the Fallen. However, it isn't just a shift of setting but rather an expansion of the gameplay mechanics that help to set The Surge apart. It's a decently realized world that feels legitimately fun to play. With that in mind, it's also clear that certain aspects are still being held back, especially in regards to the pacing, story and soundtrack. It's a shame really, as it's a combination that keeps The Surge back from being a special game, into merely a good one.
