Overall, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is really a classic game in the JRPG and DRPG genre. From the engaging story that will really make you think at times, to the enjoyable dungeon crawling and intense combat, you have a game that fans of both genres will enjoy. Fans who have played the original Strange Journey will find plenty to do here in this remake of the game. Once again Atlus has delivered a gem that is easily one of the best games out this year.

8.3 / 10.0 - The Alliance Alive
Mar 26, 2018

The Alliance Alive succeeded in everything The Legend of Legacy failed in. From rich environments and a somber atmosphere, to more balanced combat, and to an overall much better story, you truly have a JRPG that channels the roots of a lot of classic games. While the game may have a few technical issues, it is a rather enjoyable time through and through.

. Yakuza 6 is easily the most immersive video game I have ever played, and is just a lot of fun. The amount of times I couldn't help but smile while playing this game is a testament to the fact of how much I enjoyed myself. While the game does has its flaws, SEGA has once again delivered a fantastic game that is easily one of the best games currently out this year.

Overall, this collection is very good, adding cool new features, giving a superior experience to past releases, and just being standout games. No better time to jump in than with a third game coming. Sixty dollars is pretty steep even with two games, but they are worth every penny. Do yourself a favor, and experience these games.

Dynasty Warriors 9 is a bit too overly ambitious in some areas but manages to hold its own in this new re-imagining of the series. What it lacks in polish it makes up for in sheer content and fun combat. The hammy power metal coupled with some over the top anime-styled fights and a rich world to explore makes for an experience I’m surprised I enjoyed as much as I did.

At the end of the day, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is a fantastic remake of the original DS game. With the added quality of life changes, new story inclusions and allowing the player to choose whether or not they want to experience more of it, you have a classic game that anyone with a 3DS should go out and try. I can recommend this game to JRPG fans looking for their next JRPG itch, as well as fans of the original. While it’s not perfect, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology will continue to radiate through history.

Overall, Shadows of Valentia delivers a new personal favorite Fire Emblem game. There are a lot of additions I would love to see return in the Nintendo Switch entry, and there was never a time I found myself frustrated, and wanting to put the game down. This game is an excellent last hoorah for the series on 3DS. The future looks even brighter for this franchise.

At the end of the day, Harvest Moon Light of Hope isn’t a completely bad game, but it doesn't play like a good one by any stretch either. It just feels like a lazily stitched together copy and paste.

Overall, from a gameplay perspective this version of Alola is vastly superior to its predecessor. The story is weaker due to how the changed the climax of the game, important character moments don’t happen and it’s a real shame. The story is still very good for a Pokemon title and I’m happy I got to experience it.

6.5 / 10.0 - Warriors All-Stars

Warriors All Stars is your typical Omega Force outing. While the game highlights the witty and humorous character dialogue of the smaller focused roster, newcomers would not find much here to be interested in. An energetic soundtrack, fast and visually striking combat, and a ton of replayability. While a lack of any Free Mode and some forced story repetition hold it back from its fullest potential, Series veterans and fans of Koei Tecmo games get a wonderful love letter wrapped in a 1000 K.O count birthday present of fun.

7.5 / 10.0 - Demon Gaze II

Overall, if the game wasn’t so talkative when going from dungeon to dungeon and if the character designs were a bit better, I’d honestly have a better time. More so if the game didn’t make me feel like I was only going from story beat to story beat to story beat every time I beat a dungeon it would have made it a bit more enjoyable. This isn’t to say that the game is even remotely bad however as the dungeon crawling itself is a ton of fun here. While I do wish I could see the turn order in battles, it’s really no big deal. The fact that what moves my teammates will learn and when they’ll learn them is a pretty big plus in my eyes.

This is a decent spin on the musou game formula, and some elements from each respective series blend quite well together. If you’re in the mood to carve up hundreds of Pegasus knights while jamming out to the main theme of Fire Emblem this is the game for you. That being said, if you’re looking for the older games to get any screen time or relevance you will have to look elsewhere.

In the end, as much I enjoy this game it feels too safe to a point where it almost feels manufactured and everything could almost be expected. It certainly plays to all of the original’s strengths which is cool, but at the same time it doesn’t do anything different outside of adding sub-areas and more interesting bosses.

Overall, Cyberdimension Neptunia 4 Goddesses Online is everything an online Neptunia game should be. The game has creative writing, an enjoyable combat system, and fantastic visuals to boot. The only thing really holding this game back is the amount of performance issues tied to this game. Outside of that, you have a really enjoyable spin off of a loveable series. If this game is going to set the groundwork for how future games look and feel, I am excited to see what the future holds for the Hyperdimension Neptunia series.

As much as I find Senran Kagura to be my favorite guilty pleasure series, this one I found myself actively disliking it from the get-go. The gameplay design is certainly fun when you get the hang of it, but everything around it is just badly designed and just makes it not fun to play. As someone that’s for developers wanting to branch out and do other things, this is one of the few times where sticking to the status qua might have been a good idea.

At its core this is Danganronpa no doubt about it. Like DR2, the highs are incredibly high, and the lows are incredibly low. In this scenario though, the developers took everything about the series and just cranked it up to the next level.

Pokken Tournament is a fun fighting game that is perfect for casual play. While there is depth, and it can be a very competitive game, some players may find it too simple, and repetitive. The art direction is great, and the visual effects are a sight to behold. The new features are impressive and improve on some of Pokken’s biggest problems on Wii U.

Overall, this glorious return of Samus Aran is a must own for Metroid Fans. While there is a mild issue with the controls, once players adjust it’ll feel natural. The difficulty may not be newcomer friendly, but the game offers enough tools to help the player make it through the journey.

This game has certainly left it's mark, as while it's not the best DRPG out there, it's certainly a very solid and pretty original feeling effort.

When you hear a one-off story getting a sequel over 10 years after release, it almost feels worrying as to what they may bring to the table especially because the original was so beloved. For this series to come back with a sequel that's just as good as the original is absolutely fantastic. As far as trilogies go, this might have become one of my favorites. Ever.
