So overall, Biped is an amazing coop experience for you and someone else. The stages are fun, the levels are appropriately challenging, and the graphics are super cute with fun music to add to the atmosphere. Being on the Switch also helps for you to bring it along as long as you’re being safe in the current climate that we find ourselves in with Social Distancing.
Overall, The Academy provides a lot of entertaining puzzle solving and an entertaining storyline. While some of the puzzles are confusing or arguable, you get that in pretty much any puzzle game, and the few number of issues with understanding puzzle solutions really speaks for how well they're put together. There are plenty of puzzles, and enough little side missions to keep you entertained for a while. There are enough hint items floating around to help you through the core of the game, and they're easy enough to earn if you put the effort in. The Academy is an enjoyable puzzle solving experience that I would recommend to anyone coming off a Layton bend, or looking for some riddles to solve.
Overall, I have to say I had a surprising amount of fun with Touhou Mechanical Scrollery. The stages weren't too long, and the game finishes before it starts wearing on you too badly. Yes, it is rather short at only four chapters with about ten or so missions per chapter, but it was a nice pace. The graphics are decent, and the soundtrack quality isn't bad. You get enough material drops that you won't be farming a stage for six hours trying to get an azure dragonsphire equivalent, although the amount of money you'll need is a little aggravating. Weapon trees are pretty decent with a variety of options, and I didn't have the game crash while playing. That being said, it's very clunky and could use a lot of refining. As a step away from the standard 2D fare, I'd say it is a nice refreshing step. As a whole however, it falls flat in some key areas, although not to the point that it causes any critical issues.
To conclude, I believe White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is a must play if survival horror is your cup of tea. It has everything you'd want in a horror from challenges, scares and bone chilling suspense that'll cause you nightmares. I find playing this game in a dark room with some friends makes the experience that more enjoyable when you have someone to throw the controller to when your nerves just can't take it anymore. And if you want to heighten that experience the game is available on Steam with the Ultimate Edition, DLC included. I'm giving this game an 8.5 out of 10 for being spectacularly spooky.
So overall, Warborn provides some good Turned Based Strategy. The campaign is fun and provides some challenge but other than getting a higher rank, it doesn’t provide much replayability so it’s a good thing that there’s both an offline skirmish mode and online cross platform multiplayer mode between the Xbox One, the Switch and the PC to keep you busy for a while to come!
That said, Ys: Memories of Celceta is both a wonderful action adventure RPG just as much as it is a solid entry into the Ys Series. Having made its way to the PS4, there are now three options to experience this adventure and fans that want to get back into it from the original Vita version will be happy to know that they share a trophy list. With plenty of ground to cover, plenty of monsters to fight and puzzles to solve, this re-release of one of Adol’s earlier adventures may be exactly what you need to tide you over as we wait for the localization of Ys IX: Nox Monstrum.
So overall, in just the last six months Crumbling World has come a long way and I’m impressed with the current result. With different character classes offering different approaches to combat while the ground falls out from under your feet, there’s a nice challenge to it all making it more than just another Hack & Slash to go through.
So overall, Dungeon Defenders: Awakened is a good return for the series. It’s fun to play both with friends and family though it will be interesting to see where things go from here. With the original success of the first, the troubles of the second, and then technically the original revamp of the first, Awakened has the opportunity to expand with the knowledge of the titles that came before it while also avoiding the issues that came along for the ride. I just hope that I get my Barbarian back...
So overall, while Minecraft Dungeons plays it rather safe with the Dungeon Crawling style, it’s fun to play either on your own or with friends. With the current state of affairs, #playapartogether and COVID-19, it is nice that there are both a local and online multiplayer so that families in the same house can play off of one console while friends can just easily add each together to go hacking & slashing against the evil hordes that threaten the land. With more content coming soon as showcased on the world map, I’m interested in seeing what comes next. Source: Ultimate Game Pass Subscription provided by Microsoft for Minecraft Dungeons Review
Overall, Invasions is a DLC that adds a lot of value to the Age of Wonders series. This title is simply spectacular because of its addition of world events, a new NPC faction, and the Shakarn playable race. Invasions is a blast and this DLC catapults Age of Wonders up into a must purchase. As such, Age of Wonders: Planetfall - Invasions receives an 9 out of 10.
In small doses, Maneater is pretty mindless fun. Exploring is entertaining, there’s enough shiny objects scattered about to keep things interesting and the progression options are nice to see as well. However, the progression path could provide a bit more meaning if the combat and movement were somewhat more refined. Considering the bulk of the time is spent moving and fighting, that is a somewhat severe drawback from what would otherwise had the potential to be a pretty fantastic guilty pleasure.
Overall, I'd say my time spent with Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen was well spent. While the lengthy text may tend to drag on a bit, especially around the middle, the combat is interspersed well, and the breaks given allow to break up the monotony. The characters are interesting and unique, the scenes are well drawn, and the soundtrack selection is well done. Combat can be both smooth and infuriating at times, but is overall different enough to remain entertaining while not so overly complicated you need a guidebook every third turn. If you are a fan of Visual Novels and grid-based tactics, you'll probably get a fair amount of fun out of Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen.
Overall, Children of Morta is a fantastic Roguelike experience that makes itself rather accessible even if the genre is not your forte. With multiple characters to be used with unique gameplay styles and a well narrated story to tie it all together, this is one that should be looked into and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next in the later updates.
I cannot argue that Spirit of the North isn't a beautiful game on the surface. It is spectacular in certain areas ways and because there are a number of good points, I rate Spirit of the North at a 7 out of 10. The story of the fox and his spirit companion needs a lot more reason to play to keep puzzle aficionados like me interested beyond the first couple of chapters.
Overall I really loved my time playing Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix. The music videos put a smile on my face and some of the songs I really loved and have stuck in my head hours after playing. With its huge list of songs and additional DLC you can add even more to the experience and there was already a lot to love about this game. The only thing some fans may not like is there is no The DIVA room mode like in the PS3/Vita game Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd. Other than that I really love this game!
While Infinite: Beyond the Mind doesn't really offer anything new or exciting to the genre, it's still a wonderful experience with a lot of solid design choices behind it. With stages that don't drag on past their welcome, a co-op mode, the ability to save between stages, and some pretty fun boss fights, you can get a lot of fun from Infinite.
Dread Nautical was simply amazing to sit down to. The turned based elements mesh perfectly with the Roguelike setting that has been presented through a cruise ship stuck somewhere out there in the high seas. With plenty of possible party members, tons of replayability, and simply just being fun to play, I can only hope to see more of this down the line and maybe a Dread Nautical inspired Pinball Machine.
Overall Daymare 1998 isn’t a bad zombie title, but it isn’t a great one either. Sitting somewhere in the middle, there are both classic and newer elements that blend together nicely but when added with the visual issues and the more mechanical ones like zombies not dying, there’s a bit of work to be done in order to make this the amazing title that it should be.
Overall, the experience from The Inner Friend felt distinctly lacking, if not at least positive. The game is way too short, some of the areas felt either way too long (the ruins) or way too short (the mall literally took me less than 2 minutes to finish), and more often than not, just when a stage was reaching its end did I really start getting into it. The Inner Friend also suffers from a bit of a "genre disorder" halfway through, as it turns into less spooky, more weird mini games and escorting without the same eerie feeling, and some rather clunky handling on occasion. There was a lot that felt unfurnished and unexplored, and The Inner Friend would have really benefited from some refining and expansion to the different themes explored.
I would highly encourage anyone to experience Deliver us the Moon either on the PC or the consoles that have now launched. It’s not very long clocking in anywhere between six to eight hours depending on how lost you get, but it’s a well told and well built experience that had me feeling rather emotional by the end. With plenty of trials to overcome and a silent protagonist that is probably one of the better ones that I’ve ever had the chance to travel with, finding out if you had indeed Deliver the Moon is a question that you should answer for yourselves.
