ThisGenGaming's Reviews

Loading Human Chapter 1 is a good first try at the adventure genre in VR for Untold Games. I enjoyed the sci fi story presented here and the characters are well thought out. Interacting with all the different objects in the game and some of the puzzles are fun too. The game needs more variety and if you aren’t into slower paced games you may want to pass on this. The price also makes it hard to recommend it but if you catch it on sale it’s well worth it. I do hope Untold Games can make the next chapter and improve on what they have here as I’d like to see what is next for these characters.

8.5 / 10.0 - Job Simulator (VR)
Oct 29, 2016

When I was finished with Job Simulator I was fully satisfied with my experience. It’s one of the best games on PlayStation VR right now. While I was sad to see it end I loved every second of it and never was bored. It’s easily one of the more funnier games I’ve played as well. Owlchemy Labs is onto something special early in the PlayStation VR lifecycle and I’m excited to see how they can take this and build upon it.

If you haven’t played any of the Lego Harry Potter games before then I’d recommend picking this up at some point. If you have played them then I personally don’t think you need to return to Lego Hogwarts. I don’t feel that it’s worth the current asking price but maybe you will and you do get a good amount of content in the package. I just feel like more could have been done to improve this collection when other HD remasters have set the bar higher.

7.5 / 10.0 - Mantis Burn Racing
Oct 26, 2016

So in conclusion has VooFoo built a good top down racing game that stands above most of the recent competition? Yes they have as Mantis Burn Racing looks good, controls good, and has a pretty good amount of content. It needs some more track variety and the load times really dampen the rest of the experience but this is one well built racer outside of that.

6.5 / 10.0 - Ace Banana
Oct 23, 2016

If you're looking for a fun, colorful family shooter than Ace Banana will be for you. The shooting feels good even though the Move controllers can sometimes not work right. Thanks to the varied enemies the game doesn't get boring although I do think the price is high for the amount of content that you get. If you can get past that and a couple other faults however than by all means become a banana archer and shoot some monkeys.

7 / 10.0 - Pixel Gear (VR)
Oct 23, 2016

Oasis Games has crafted a pretty good wave based shooter in Pixel Gear and set it a nice affordable price. The game isn’t really long and doesn’t have any replay value outside of some higher difficulties. What is here though is fun for the few hours that it lasts and since there aren’t a lot of other shooters on the platform yet and it’s cheap I recommend it if you’re interested in some mindless shooting fun.

9.5 / 10.0 - Thumper
Oct 21, 2016

Out of the entire PlayStation VR launch lineup I’d have to say Thumper is one of the must plays. It’s certainly one of the best music rhythm games I’ve played in years and the best “rhythm violence” game. Playing in PlayStation VR is the best way to experience this game as the sense of speed and being in that visual showcase surrounded by thumping audio is made all the better by it. The fact that it offers plenty of challenge to incentivize return runs is one of the best parts about it and I know I’ll be playing it to improve my scores for quite some time.

6 / 10.0 - Nebulous
Oct 19, 2016

For this kind of puzzle game Nebulous is sufficient enough but just one I can’t recommend for the price point it’s at. It’s not a long game and if you’re like me you may grow bored of it long before you even finish the small amount of levels here. It’s got great writing and rewards experimentation but everything else about the game is just kind of bland. If you like puzzle games and catch it on sale one day I’d say give it a shot but for $15 I’d say to avoid it for now.

8.5 / 10.0 - Shu
Oct 19, 2016

Like I said in the opener Shu is yet another platformer that does enough different to capture my interest. I’m so thankful to the indie game space for still creating unique new platforming experiences like Shu. Its got its own unique gameplay elements and the art style is gorgeous and fun to look at. I was only disappointed when the game came to an end as it isn’t very long. Hopefully Coatsink will do more with Shu in the future as it’s absolutely something I’d love to see more of. For any fan of platformers however you can’t do much better than Shu this year.

8 / 10.0 - Driveclub VR
Oct 16, 2016

There is no doubt in my mind that racing games can be one of the genres to benefit the most from virtual reality. Driveclub VR has shown me that racing will never be the same again unless I actually feel like I’m in that car. It nails that sense of immersion for sure. It has it’s issues especially in the graphics department but if you can look past that you’ll experience a racing game unlike any other.

9 / 10.0 - Battlefield 1
Oct 13, 2016

Ultimately, Battlefield 1 goes back to move forward and it's a delight to experience. You'll be hard-pressed to find a video game that dares to throw you into the horrors of a Great War and yet Battlefield 1 feels modern, something one might assume to be oxymoronic considering the setting of 1914-1918. Whilst other FPS games this year and in previous years have switched to jet-packing and wall-running, Battlefield 1 feels like its reinvigorated a genre that I had grown tired of in recent years. By making this risky decision, DICE and EA actually have proven you don't need to go futuristic in-order to reinvigorate a genre. In fact, DOOM as well as Battlefield 1 this year prove to me that sometimes reverting back to the basics can be one of the most refreshing experiences possible.

8.5 / 10.0 - WWE 2K17
Oct 9, 2016

WWE 2K17 is one of the better WWE games to come out in quite sometime, possibly the best since the name change from Smackdown Vs. RAW to just WWE/WWE 2K. The changes made to Universe and MyCareer were needed, and are welcomed changes, though both modes still have issues. I can't explain how happy I am that free roaming/backstage brawling is back in WWE games, and I've had a blast brawling all over arenas. There's still issues like commentary and bugs that really need to be fixed hopefully in the next game. If you are a fan of WWE games then this is your ultimate wrestling sandbox.

5 / 10.0 - Mafia 3
Oct 6, 2016

Mafia III had serious potential but was let down by an extremely boring & repetitive storyline that was tough to get through because it felt like I was just doing the same thing over and over again. Issues & bugs are scattered throughout the game, and happened surprisingly early in the game which also negatively impacted the experience. Now Mafia III is far from a complete failure, there is still some fun to be had with this game but it's not one I will recommend paying full price for.

9 / 10.0 - Gears of War 4
Oct 6, 2016

Gears Of War 4 is another incredible entry in the Gears Of War series. I'm happy the team took the extra time to get their first new Gears Of War title on the Xbox One as the extra time seems to have paid off. Like I said in the review, I wasn't the biggest fan of the campaigns in previous Gears Of War titles but in Gears Of War 4 I was extremely impressed. I feel Gears Of War 4 made some great changes to the series without moving away too far from what made the series so successful. Fans of the old games will be pleased with this entry in the series while new fans will be impressed with what's being offered in Gears Of War 4.

8 / 10.0 - Aragami
Oct 4, 2016

"After finishing Aragami I will say I was satisfied with my experience. Despite the performance issues the game offers a great stealth experience and reminded me a lot of the old Tenchu games I loved. The game offers a lot in my opinion for the asking price giving you a lengthy campaign and encouraging you to play it over to get better scores or play with a friend in the online co-op. If you’re a fan of stealth games Aragami is one of the best ones you can buy right now."

Collectively, (if you pardon the pun) the BioShock Collection offers a TON of single-player content. Seriously, if you’re the gamer who prefers single-player to multiplayer then this collection has a massive amount of content on offer. Not only do you get the hugely praised single-player of all three base games, you will also get all the additional single-player content that all three games offer.

9 / 10.0 - Virginia
Sep 22, 2016

Even if you recently watched Stranger Things, you might notice a few similarities with Virginia in the subtle and sometimes explicit otherworldly allusions to the masked reality that we cannot actively perceive. This whole feeling that something could be hiding around the corner definitely adds to the suspense that runs throughout most of the game. One might get a fourth-wall-breaking sense that the developers are slowly peeling back the mystery and everything that unravels is for you to behold and try your damndest to make sense of it all.

9 / 10.0 - Forza Horizon 3
Sep 20, 2016

Forza Horizon 3 is amazing, I thought it would be tough to top Forza Horizon 2 but Playground Games managed to do it. I feel the setting is by far the best setting out of all the other Forza games and the huge map makes things even better. The improvements to customization and the additions of other game modes make this by far the definite Forza Horizon game.  Forza Horizon 3 isn't just a Game Of The Contender. It is THE Game Of The Year.

8.5 / 10.0 - The Bunker
Sep 20, 2016

Overall though I found The Bunker very entertaining despite it’s brief lasting time. It tells a well thought out and well acted story that will have you guessing and trying to figure it out until it ends. I really hope to see more FMV games like this one in the future as it’s a unique gaming experience unlike most others. Sit down, turn the lights off, and enjoy you’re stay in The Bunker.

9 / 10.0 - The Turing Test
Sep 18, 2016

It’s a great game and even better, an excellent puzzle game. However, puzzles aren’t the be all and end all; the narrative is enthralling, mysterious and intriguing – any sci-fi lovers out there will find a good story here. There’s some seriously thought-provoking dialogue and moments in the game that I hope you take the time to experience The Turing Test for yourself – it shouldn’t be missed!
