Checkpoint's Reviews

From the creators of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, and after many development problems, The Last Guardian is finally among us. A game that follows the same path of the aforementioned games, it pays honor to the creative mind of Fumito Ueda and it will not disappoint it's fans in any way. A dreamy, sentimental, magical journey. Must-play.

After the disappointing adventures of Michonne in the videogame universe of The Walking Dead, Telltale managed to show us why it’s main saga was so successful back in 2012. An awesome new cast and a story full of turns and surprises waiting at the end of every corner. A New Frontier is off to a great start.

9 / 10.0 - Final Fantasy XV
Dec 10, 2016

A great Final Fantasy for newcomers and old timers alike. Even though it's story feels rushed at times, it's great open world, fighting mechanics and heartbreaking finale makes the game worthwhile.

8.5 / 10.0 - Dishonored 2
Nov 30, 2016

An enjoyable and highly recommendable experience, even more so to those who fully enjoyed the first game. Arkane Studios has improved everything that needed improvement since Dishonored came out, and they give us an excellent game to enjoy on consoles and PC. Stealth is far from games like Deus Ex, however it is still entertaining although somewhat frustrating. Level design is magnificent, specially in two maps: a mansion that transforms its rooms with mechanisms and gizmos, and another mansion we can visit in two different time sets simultaneously. Dishonored 2 makes me want to replay Dishonored in its Definitive Edition release.

7.5 / 10.0 - Dragon Ball Fusions
Nov 30, 2016

There are tons of Dragon Ball games in the market. Handheld consoles are often used for non conventional games like this one. The mixture between tactical and JRPG gameplay feels fresh, fusing characters is fun, but the story could have been deeper. A good Dragon Ball game for fans and RPG gamers alike

Robinson is one of the first games that shows us the true potential of VR. The immersion in a jurassic park-like world shows players a prehistoric setting in a never before seen way. It is short for its original price, but one of the best VR games of VR in its first year.

A huge game with great ideas on how to treat an environment based on a MMO world. Sadly it has many flows. While it’s combat is interesting, the characters are dull and tracking missions ends up in a headache every time. An experience only SAO fans will like.

A nice game if you are looking for puzzle to go. While it doesn’t excel at anything it trains your mind with its Mario Vs Donkey Kong style gameplay.

The episodic approach to an action-stealth game was a big bet. In this final chapter we can tell for sure that it surprise with the uncertainty of what kind of level we will see next in each episode, but the lack of connection fails to give the player a true motive to wear agent 47’s shoes.

7 / 10.0 - Necropolis
Oct 25, 2016

It's strange to see tridimensional indie games like this one. It tries to imitate the “Souls” formula with its strategic action based combat and the unrewarding deaths. Something nice and different for rogue-like players.

A game for all the Valkyrie Profile fans starving for something new. At first it seems like a generic RPG, but it grows on one thanks to its polished and charming world.

Once again Eidos Montreal has managed to craft a game that even people who dislike FPS, should play, since this game's focus is clearly Stealth and Tactics and not so much combat. The choices we make actually do have impact the further we go into the story, and you'll want to replay the game in order to know what would've happened if you had acted differently.

8 / 10.0 - Headlander
Aug 18, 2016

Headlander it an outstanding game artistically speaking, gameplay-wise its really fun and even though it's story is lost midway through, it's not something that hurts the game at all. The difficulty scales linearly as the game progresses, finding more powerful enemies as we advance, enemies which in turn we can posses, making it all beautifully balanced. Some gameplay mechanics fall short as they are not used enough, however the game is enjoyable from beginning to end. This is why i absolutely recommend this game, it's a fun experience all the way through, although clocking at around six hours, it left me wanting for more.

9 / 10.0 - Doom
Jun 28, 2016

In it's full splendor, Doom is a complete package, and a very good one. What stands out above all is it's single player campaign, which is enjoyable from beginning to end, putting us in the least-likely-to-survive situations while queueing and outstanding music reminiscent of the 1993 classic. Multiplayer is not as good, but it's worth a try, especially worth trying out is the ingenious Snap-Map level creator.

8.5 / 10.0 - Severed
Jun 16, 2016

First Person, Dungeon, RPGs, Touch controls, a weird mix, that makes Severed another reason to own a PS Vita, which is nowadays a very rare feat since the portable console has been completely outcast by Sony, yet kept afloat by developers such as Drinkbox Studios. There is no doubt this is a game that needs to be in your library, so go dust off that Vita and play this game.

9 / 10.0 - Ratchet & Clank
Apr 13, 2016

The first Ratchet & Clank is one of my favourite games, and so is the whole saga basically. The latest games, 'Ratchet & Clank: All 4' One and 'Full Frontal Assault', went a bit off path from the classic 3D platformer genre and were in turn not very well received. 'Into The Nexus' took back the classic formula, but the game was so short, that it seems more of a teaser and left us wanting even more. This refresh, remake, reversion of the original, a sort of playable Pixar movie, is the perfect opportunity for any gamer to drop into this amazing space adventure saga.

8.5 / 10.0 - TrackMania Turbo
Apr 1, 2016

Trackmania Turbo is the latest iteration from a bizarre genre, a racing game but with a roller coaster or Hot Wheels style, it is also its first appearance on consoles. It has sparked controversy among its fans.

The final version of a classic Xbox title is here. Besides some bugs patched in the first weeks after launch, Gears of War: Ultimate Windows 10 Edition is a good revival of the original game, and an excellent opportunity for fans and newcomers alike.
