7.5 / 10.0 - Foul Play
Nov 1, 2013

With great wit and humour, Foul Play is a thoroughly enjoyable brawler that will keep you entertained for a good while.

Black Flag presents a game world that is wonderfully historic, yet incredibly fun. Being a pirate is one of those childhood fantasies I'd love to live and ACIV brings me one step closer. Probably as close as I'm going to get without the help of an actual animus.

Rocksmith 2014 is the definitive software package when it comes to learning bass, lead or rhythm guitar. It will take a while to get to grips with the visual queues the game feeds you, but once you've overcome that hurdle you'll go from rank amateur to shredding like a pro in a flash.

A satisfying return to the city that started it all. It's a strong piece of DLC with some niggling issues that will hopefully be ironed out when the second part rolls around.

Whilst it has some excellent exploration and puzzle segments, Deadfall Adventures is marred by its mediocre combat, frequent bugs and a story that struggles to keep the player engaged.

8.5 / 10.0 - Battlefield 4
Nov 16, 2013

With its large scale warfare simulator simultaneously at its most accessible and long-term-fan pleasing level for years, and with CoD: Ghosts looking a little tired, it may just be the year of Battlefield.

Enough time, energy and money has been spent on creating Ghosts that it's still a decent game in its own right, but eight games on from COD4, this series seriously needs a revolution to get it back on track as the FPS king.

This is what DLC should be. Masses of content. New options, new maps, new missions, new soldiers, new enemies, balances and optimisations; hours and hours of brand new gameplay. It's all here. It's all good. It's the best that XCOM has ever been.

6.5 / 10.0 - Redshirt
Dec 3, 2013

Even if you really invest in the digital people you're interacting with, there just isn't enough variety in the gameplay to have a truly enjoyable experience. This is an interesting experimental game, and also an acute demonstration of human manipulation. If nothing else, Redshirt will make you appreciate the power of your online actions.

Contrast isn't without its faults, but it still provides a memorable gaming experience.

10 / 10.0 - The Novelist
Dec 11, 2013

The Novelist is the most personal and beautiful game I have ever experienced. The creator, Kent Hudson, has quite plainly poured his heart and soul into this game, and the outcome is genuinely something to behold. Never before have I felt so emotionally involved in the characters, their situation and potential future, as in this truly player-driven story.

This is not only TT Games' finest LEGO game, it's the only good Marvel game you'll play for the foreseeable future. Heaps of replayability, great writing and endearing gameplay makes this TT's definitive work.

4.5 / 10.0 - Gomo

A great looking game with an excellent soundtrack, hampered by basic gameplay and a very short duration. Genre fans may enjoy it, but there's nothing particularly exceptional about Gomo.

8 / 10.0 - ZEN Pinball 2
Dec 23, 2013

Unless you know you love pinball already, I'd say it's a bit of a gamble. Zen have also included demos of each table, though, so feel free to try them at your own leisure. Overall, this an experience worth trying at the very least, and buying even if it's just for the split-screen.

5 / 10.0 - Violett
Dec 27, 2013

So overall, Violett is an okay game on the PC, albeit with some really strange puzzles, but a lot of the negative points about it could easily be solved by playing this on a tablet, or a touchscreen PC instead.
