I had fun with Punch Club as I unraveled its story between training sessions and my work day. It's definitely worth a play, even if you can't directly control fights. If you want to be the best, you have to work hard, and this game certainly shows you that, one fight at a time.

85% - 88 Heroes
Apr 5, 2017

I love what 88 Heroes has to offer. The platforming and action are true to the genre and might seem a bit “simplistic” to some, but the overall premise of the game greatly elevates the whole package and makes it stand on its own. It’s a fun game with fun gameplay and fun writing, and I highly recommend you play it on PS4 today!

8.5 / 10.0 - Snake Pass
Apr 4, 2017

I liked playing Snake Pass, and this is definitively a one-of-a-kind experience. The difficulty curve is steep at first, but it has more to do with having to really think outside the box as you take on this platformer. Some of you might not like the game, but those of you who give it a chance and persevere will get to enjoy a very clever release.

Overall SkyKeepers is a fun old-school style action platfomer that will have you playing for many hours. The game has a high level of polish and, at least in my playthrough, was free of bugs and glitches. Sure, there’s a definitive curve in place and some battles can feel a bit repetitive with combos that can leave you with sore thumbs, but the game is fun and available at a good price.

NeuroVoider is a fun release, but I do think there are better twin-stick shooters available on the PlayStation 4. While being a roguelike will be to the taste of gamers that like a challenge, this will also ward off some other looking for a more casual experience.

Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment is an excellent action platformer with a lot of content to enjoy and plenty of bonus challenges to endure and feats to complete. It raises the bar for the Shovel Knight series and makes me look forward to seeing what Yacht Club Games manages to do for King Knight’s campaign. Nintendo Switch owners get to enjoy Specter of Torment as a timed exclusive, so if you want to give this excellent game a try before it makes its way to other consoles, now is the time to do so!

Unscored - Bard's Gold
Mar 22, 2017

Bard's Gold is a very addictive release that will easily keep coming back for more. Runs aren't very long and the fact that you can actually make some progress by upgrading skills and bonuses at the end of each run will motivate you to play over and over as you try to get closer to completing the entire game in one go. The three difficulty settings make it so that people of all skill levels can give this one a go on PS4, so I definitely recommend it.

Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride clicked with me pretty easily. The game’s puzzles gave my brain a nice workout without ever becoming too complicated. While this release might not be for everyone, there’s definitely a large enough group of you out there that is going to love this release! Aside from the improvements needed on cut-scenes and voice acting, Artifex Mundi is doing a good job with these PS4 adventure releases.

Momodora: Reverie Under The Moonlight is a very fun, polished and challenging PlayStation 4 game. It is a short but sweet release that will keep you busy for a handful of hours, but you’ll love every minute of it. I really liked this one, and hope I get to play a new game in the series soon!

I had a lot of fun with LEGO Worlds, and I look forward to seeing what the next game in the long-running LEGO series has to offer. There’s a ton of content in this latest release, so you’ll be spending a ton of hours playing in single or multiplayer every day for a long, long time!

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows is certainly different from Shovel Knight: Shovel of Truth. While you do visit locations from the original campaign, the way Plague Knight plays makes the new campaign a completely unique experience. Flying through the air thanks to some carefully activated bursts and throwing a bomb or two to slow down your fall are very interesting gameplay mechanics and make a beloved game feel fresh.

Touhou Genso Wanderer is a very fun and challenging game on PS4. Due to its roguelike nature, there's certainly some trial and error in the mix while you learn the basics and what enemies can do in battle. With some careful planning and by using your items wisely you'll be able to make good progress in the game before facing your end. If you're a fan of the genre then be sure to give this one a go!

If you loved Blaster Master on the NES, Blaster Master Zero on the Nintendo Switch is that game, improved, expanded and refined to give us the definitive version of a great old-school release. If you're a fan of Blaster Master, my Blaster Master Zero review has shown you this is a must-have for your collection. And if you never played the original, this is the way to experience a beloved classic built for a new generation.

Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope is an excellent game you have to play today on the Nintendo Switch. The fact that this is the 3rd version of the game I've played (with Wii U and 3DS before it) and that I'm still having fun and didn't stop until I beat the game speaks volumes to its quality. If you're new to Shovel Knight, you're in for a treat! Grab Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and you'll have plenty of content to keep you busy for a while.

Hunter’s Legacy is a fun Metroidvania on PS4 that will give even experienced players a bit of a workout. Its difficulty is not overwhelming but more skilled players will have an easier time finding everything in the game. If you’re looking for a new Metroidvania to take on the PlayStation 4, Hunter’s Legacy is a good option.

Castle Invasion is a very addictive release that will keep you playing for “just one more level” over and over until it’s late at night. It has simple to understand gameplay mechanics, and its difficulty is fair. So if you’re looking for a fun castle defense game on PS4 (or Vita since this is a cross-buy release), then you should definitely play this one.

Loot Rascals is a very fun implementation of the roguelike formula to a charming and colorful release. The quirky art style and character design are perfect for the game’s gameplay mechanics, and its soundtrack perfectly fits the game. This is a very addictive release that will keep you busy for many hours. It happened to me the first time I played it – before I noticed I had already spent four hours playing! I liked my time with the game so much that I’ve continued to go back to it even after writing this review, and that greatly speaks to the quality of this release.

A Pixel Story is a fun and challenging puzzle/platformer with a great look that evolves as you play. Each generation has its own charm and will remind older players of how gaming used to be “back in the day.” Other than a single complaint about how the game’s text is too small and hard to read unless you’re closer to the TV, I definitely recommend that you play this one on PS4.

Despite the easy pick up and play aspect, the game is certainly tough and not for the inexperienced. You'll die a lot in this one and lose all of the weapons and items you were carrying. But every time you'll make a bit of progress towards a chapters mid-boss or boss, chipping away at the game bit by bit. This is a great homage to old-school action games from back in the day, and it does things properly by adding its own twist on things. If you're looking for a hardcore 2D action game on PS4, then you should give Cursed Castilla a go!

96% - Linelight
Mar 1, 2017

I absolutely loved Linelight. It’s a highly addictive release that will keep you coming back for more, and once you think you’ve finished the game, you might end up finding some extra content as a reward for your effort. Its simple but strong gameplay mechanic, minimalist but charming look and excellent puzzle design make this one of the best games on the PlayStation 4.
