7.4 / 10.0 - Mushroom Wars 2
Jul 8, 2018

Mushroom Wars 2 is definitely an excellent title for the RTS fan, even if you don't find mushrooms particularly appealing. The character designs are pleasing, the various multiplayer options are enjoyable, and the difficulty settings will keep you coming back for more.  My main gripes here, are primarily due to the control scheme, which I feel could have been better utilized on the switch that is built with touchscreen controls. While the controller is necessary to play the switch in docked mode, Mushroom Wars 2 screams to be played in a mobile environment and having the option to have a more touch-focused control scheme, at least for a single player, would have been ideal.

9 / 10.0 - Sonic Mania Plus
Jul 8, 2018

The new Angel Island Zone is just icing on the cake. If you've already played through Sonic Mania before, there's ample reason to pick Sonic Mania Plus up too, especially if you're a fan of the Blue Blazer. There's enough new content to digest, and the art book is pretty great, even if it's just a little trinket. Now... how long do we have to wait for a proper sequel?

Despite its shortcomings, Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is a great playthrough. Specifically, I think it caters to a group of gamers that, until last year, were really missing out on the mobile platform. It demonstrates the potential of the Nintendo Switch as a serious FPS console while still offering the mobility and freedom that Nintendo strives to obtain. If you haven't picked up Wolfenstein 2 yet and own a Switch I think, despite its issues, you'll really enjoy the playthrough.

Overall the game is billed as Legos The Incredibles but the game itself may not hit that title. Coming in at 39.99 on Steam and 59.99 USD for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. It is out now and ready for you to go pick it up for whatever system you are using.

Shining Resonance: Refrain is, I hope, the beginning of the Shining series' return to the US and EU as a SEGA mainstay. Its systems are top-notch, its action is uniquely its own, and lord knows we need more solid JRPGs back in the West.

6 / 10.0 - Rainbow Skies
Jun 26, 2018

After a week's worth of time spent in Rainbow Skies I have to say that even as someone who is not typically a tactical, turn-based RPG player, I appreciate how much has gone into Rainbow Skies. It definitely scratches that particular itch with great progression mechanics, an intriguing world and story, and some great tactical combat. However, the game's unbalanced pacing in story delivery coupled with some serious "what do I do now" moments hamper this otherwise fun tactical, turn-based RPG.

Super Bomberman R has already launched for the new systems and you have the ability to snag it now for the price of 39.99 USD for all platforms except Nintendo Switch, where it is still 49.99. You will have hours of fun with friends or family, even by yourself. Recommended!

Deployment is a great effort that just fell short for me.

7.5 / 10.0 - Antigraviator
Jun 26, 2018

The game is visually appealing and offers you the ability to just pick up and play without much need for overly complicated things. Antigraviator offers a nostalgic gameplay with updating graphics and keeps to what games should be, Good Old Fashioned fun.

7 / 10.0 - House Flipper
Jun 26, 2018

House Flipper may not be the usual game you would expect, but games, in general, have evolved greatly over the last decade, to say the least. It is a niche title, but it can be a very fun game if you don't mind spending hours remaking houses and decorating them to your heart's content. It's not without its bugs and oddities which the developer is consistently working on, like not being able to build walls on any floors above or below the first floor, but overall House Flipper is a fun game if it's your type of game.

8.2 / 10.0 - Prey: Mooncrash
Jun 26, 2018

There's no doubt, Mooncrash is a must play for anyone who enjoyed Prey. But it's also a must play for any fan of roguelike games. The RPG aspects, the procedural content, the mystery of the story... it's all so on point that it's hard to knock for anything but the similar faults of the original game. Prey: Mooncrash is, simply put, the best stab at a roguelike a Triple-A studio has ever tried, and it's proof that there's room to expand on the format.

Now is the perfect time to begin playing The Sims if you haven't already. I also declare that The Sims is for all ages, multiple-interests and offers interaction like no other simulator has that I have played so far.

5 / 10.0 - Gray Dawn

Gray Dawn is true to its description of being a psychological thriller with religious elements, but it can't seem to focus in on which religious elements it wants to portray.

If you're a fan of "Escape Room" type puzzle adventure games then Whispering Willows should be at the top of your list in 2018! The game is beautifully drawn on a foundation of puzzles that aren't a free ride, but certainly, don't hinder your progress or make you feel inadequate.

8.3 / 10.0 - CastleStorm
Jun 13, 2018

Castlestorm is a light-hearted, fairly in-depth Tower defense game that offers some unique mechanics, quirky story, and fairly solid controls. It is hampered a bit by the Switch analog sticks and repetitiveness due to the nature of the genre, however overall it's a fun title and if it's one you've never picked up, I would recommend picking it up on the Switch. It's a great title to play on the go.

8 / 10.0 - The Swindle
Jun 13, 2018

When it comes down to it, The Swindle is the perfect kind of game for the Nintendo Switch.  It never would have found a home in my PC library but I find myself picking up and playing it on the Switch quite frequently.  It's the exact kind of platformer that can thrive in the Switch ecosystem: easy to understand mechanics, difficult to beat in its entirety, but engaging gameplay that keeps you coming back out of pure enjoyment for every level played.

6.5 / 10.0 - We Happy Few
Jun 13, 2018

We Happy Few is going to go down as a cult hit. If you can muster the strength to get past its janky gameplay, there's a whole lot to love here in the world and characters. But the fact remains that this adventure is one that could have used a bit more refinement.

6.5 / 10.0 - Chasm
Jun 13, 2018

Chasm is a good Metroidvania game. But it feels like it could have been better at certain points. A game that took five years to develop feels like it should offer more than Chasm currently does. Is that an unfair assessment? Possibly, but then maybe you should ask someone who kickstarted it if they're happy with what they received after all these years.
