Captain Camper

Paired with some custom difficulty settings, and players can seriously crank up the adrenaline in this title. A lack of depth in character progression and weapon variety, coupled with a stagnant and unimaginative competitive multiplayer element hold the game back, but it’s still one of the best entries in the series so far.

6 / 10 - Ride 2
Feb 24, 2017

Motorcyclists will love the amount of content Ride 2 has to offer, but more casual racers may be turned off by its depth and aggressive AI. There is a serious difficulty curve in place that isn’t for everyone, but those willing to face it head on can find something to like here.

The only reason you should be picking this game up is if you are a huge hack-and-slash fan, a big fan of Musou games like Dynasty Warriors, or a Berserk fan. If you aren't any of those, then you should skip this game.

Nioh is one of those games people will be talking about all year. Bringing gripping combat, ghastly bosses, and an amazing gear system, Team Ninja hits a home run with Nioh.

For anyone burnt by Tales Of Zesteria, this game is a step in the right direction. Anyone looking for a long, combat-rich JRPG with interesting characters should pick it up. It isn't going to change your opinion of the genre as a whole, but it does enough right to set it apart from other games like it.

Digimon World: Next Order offers a very enjoyable 60+ hours of gameplay (more with Hard Mode) with challenging mechanics and rewarding systems for caring and raising Digimon, a huge city that you can upgrade and improve in more ways than I can count and a host of features designed to reward exploration and skill in combat.

Double Dragon IV doesn’t quite live up to its potential. Those looking to scratch that beat-em-up itch are better off playing WayForward’s Double Dragon Neon or waiting for the upcoming River City Ransom: Underground.

In many ways, Revelator can be seen as the definitive version of Guilty Gear Xrd. Packing in more characters, more stages, more modes, and more unlockables, this is what -SIGN- should have originally been. Though it is a shame that this is a standalone release rather than a downloadable upgrade, the sheer amount of content available more than makes up for it.

The first two episodes of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier stick a little too close to its roots, but those looking to immerse themselves in The Walking Dead universe have found their nirvana. Think of it as zombie-flavored comfort food – if you know what you’re getting into, you’ll no doubt enjoy yourself.

It is hard to recommend Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization to anyone who isn’t already a Sword Art fan. The story just takes so long to get into and you can’t skip the cut scenes. If you are a fan of Sword Art on the other hand, the combat and co-op is enough to make this game enjoyable.

9 / 10 - Watch Dogs 2
Nov 17, 2016

I had a lot of difficulty finding opponents for the Hacking Invasion so there may still be some teething problems with the matchmaking. Again it feels very shallow. I load into a small area and attempt to hack data while remaining out of sight – not an easy thing to do when your opponent has a Quadcopter that can scan targets in seconds. Another fun distraction but I can't see it carrying the game much past the original content.

8 / 10 - Ittle Dew 2
Nov 17, 2016

Ittle Dew 2 feels like a focused and expert approach to making a Zelda game. What Ludosity was able to accomplish here felt like the developers had a level of understanding of the gameplay on par or even better than some of Nintendo’s offerings. Fluid gameplay, challenging dungeon crawling, incredible replayability, and satisfying progression make the experience a very satisfying one. Fans of the genre – and even my grandmother – would get a kick out of Ittle and her adventures.

I'm still really iffy on the episodic release even after everything finally came together. Still, if this is what it takes to have Hitman come back, I'll take it and just wait for the next season to be finished. If you are an old school Hitman fan or just like assassination games, check out Hitman Season 1.

9 / 10 - Owlboy
Nov 7, 2016

Games created with this level of attention to detail are hard to find. Throughout the past decade we can each pinpoint various favorite titles that truly touched our hearts and minds, but Owlboy stands at the top or near it. This is the kind of game that transcends time as its art, gameplay, story and music truly should be heralded as a shining example for developers to aspire towards. Whether this is something that can be duplicated remains to be seen as this title is a true labor of love and passion. Every frame in the shows the deep level of love that is only possible by withholding a game until perfection. I’ve only played a handful of games that could be considered perfect in my time and this stands among them. Congratulations go to the developers for creating a masterpiece.

World of Final Fantasy took me by complete surprise. It’s a warming combination mix of Final Fantasy and Pokemon laced with enough Nostalgia to bring a tear to the eye. It’s not very often you see a franchise look backwards to move forward but World of Final Fantasy is a credit to the effort and passion put into the franchise in the last 20 years.
