7 / 10 - Shenmue III

Beautiful to look at and live in, particularly in its second half, its charm and story mostly overcome its dated roots, except for the capsule game mechanism which spoils the overall experience.

7 / 10 - GreedFall
Sep 16, 2019

Loot, shoot, cast magic, melee and slay strange creatures in the mysterious island of Teer Fradee. If you enjoy making plenty of choices from narrative decisions to combat builds you'll enjoy your time in GreedFall. While it doesn't do anything ground breaking, this title will offer you a decent storyline, a number of playstyles and the option to choose your party. For those looking for a well-polished title, they may want to look elsewhere, but Spiders has created plenty to experience with many of hours of gameplay. Even after 20 hours you will find there is still a lot to discover.

Though nothing like the original Dark Alliance games, this new iteration does just enough to warrant the attention of those who enjoy a co-operative dungeon crawling experience. And while I recommend waiting for a sale if you intend to play solo, the inclusion of matchmaking should allow just about anyone to find other players to party up with easily, which really feels like what this game was made for.

Attack On Titan 2 Final Battle as a whole is pretty solid improvement in the series allowing players to experience the story through different point of views while letting them roam free in other modes. Players will enjoy experiencing the thrill of slaying titans in their dream squads. The lone barrier to this game will be the pricepoint of the expansion for those who already possess the base game.

Overall, Attack on Titan 2 is an improvement from the first installment of the series. This game will be enjoyed by fans as well as newcomers. I hope the game gets the attention it deserves. I hope to see continued growth as this video game series develops. My hope is that further entries will have more replayabilty and improved audio.

Atelier Ryza is an excellent addition to the Atelier game series. A fresh new world, complex crafting system, and a new real-time battle system all work together creating a very compelling game. Combine that with the traditional Atelier heartwarming story as well as a magical setting and you have a JRPG that is well worth your time and money.

7 / 10 - The Surge 2
Sep 23, 2019

The Surge 2 picks up where The Surge left off and inches forward in both quality and execution. If you are a fan of the previous title you will feel right at home, and I highly recommend it. Even though it has its flaws, it does enough to warrant a purchase if you enjoy Action RPGs, and is likely the best Action RPG (that isn't an expansion) until Elden Ring sometime next year.

For a game whose namesake implies a certain standard of tactics and strategy in an RTS, Dawn of War III is a bit of a bait and switch. While Dawn of War III on its own is a good game, you have to be completely objective in order to see that and many long time fans of the series won't. It remains to be seen if this iconic branch of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise is heading in a new direction entirely or if this was just a bad judgment call, but I believe many players will be skeptical of a future release and Relic may not be able to rely on their brand alone to sell their next installment, should one ever be developed.

8 / 10 - Godfall
Nov 11, 2020

While primarily Godfall is a fun game, if you're planning to play for solo content it may not be worth the full 60 USD at launch. Godfall mixes gameplay mechanics from a few popular titles, but doesn't do anything ground breaking. The game is great to play in co-op and will be best suited for those looking forward to multiplayer content.

Dragon Star Varnir is a dark tragic fated RPG that covers the struggle of the Witches of Varneria as they search for a way to break their fate. The character designs are alluring along with their fitting outfits. Players can easily find one or more that resonates with them. If you're in the mood for a dark game with enthralling girls, you might like this title.

There is an obvious passion, a lack of nonsense, and an awareness that a game should be one thing at its core: Fun. These traits have resulted in not only the perfect game for a small group of people, but a truly lovely game that many will play and enjoy.

8 / 10 - Absolver
Sep 5, 2017

Absolver seems to be a conflict of two games. In one corner you have the "Souls-like" world to explore cooperatively or competitively with other players, that seems to be the original idea of the developers. And in the other you have a hardcore fighting game that doesn't need a rich open world at all in order to be successful, which seems to be what Absolver evolved into. Many players will feel short-changed that the former was sacrificed to make way for the latter, and I anticipate that this game will have an extremely niche player-base. For 29.99 USD Absolver is slightly overpriced, but if you really enjoy a good fighting game, then this one is right on the mark.

Should you buy this game?  If you are a fan of the shmup genre, then yes you should.  Drifting Lands is a solid shmup that belongs in the collection of any fan of the genre. A few odd design choices and a distractingly bad story hold it back from being excellent, but it is a fun game in spite of it. Just be aware that if you're looking for a danmaku, you might be left a little wanting.  If you've never tried a shmup before, this is still a good purchase, though you might want to start on Easy to make the game ease up on the perma-loss aspect.  The game does have a demo, so if you're sitting on the fence, download that and see for yourself. Now if you'll parden me, I need to get back to looking for a straight laser drop.

8 / 10 - Destiny 2
Oct 9, 2017

I have no doubt most Destiny 2 players are simply fans of the gameplay, raids, and social platform (not to mention loot grind). But anyone who is curious whether Bungie made a stronger effort to build a narrative, the answer is yes, with the understanding that it has been structured in a way which runs askew to most narrative traditions. I'm inclined to give them leeway on this, since game stories must sometimes follow their own path in order to synchronize with a particular gameplay framework. Promises of rich, cinematic storytelling still seem unfulfilled, but the developer has made strides in at least providing a narrative foundation for everything you are tasked with doing in-game (and there are many). Much of the Destiny 2 story brought me back to Halo, both in theme and tone. And while the plot devices are overworn, and more than a bit over-the-top, they do create a sense of consistency and encourage more exploration in the post-game. This, at least, provides the potential to tie disparate story threads together with details found as rewards for immersing yourself in the game world as a whole. While this may solidify the existing player base, many who felt disappointed with the first game will probably feel that way again, just to a lesser degree.

Vault-Tec workshop is a fun walk in the underground park, especially for settlement enthusiasts who want more options for their designs. While not the deepest in content, it presents a good value for its low price.

A fun and even sometimes addictive game at the start, but gets repetitive later on. The visual style is adorable, almost to the point of annoyance but the story balances light moments with some emotional touches. This game is something that long time fans of the franchise will want to give a second look.

8 / 10 - Albion Online
Jul 29, 2017

Albion Online is fun sandbox adventure game with complexity but some UI issues.  If you can make your own story and don't need a quest line to follow, there's a good chance you'll enjoy this if you're into MMORPGs where you chart your own destiny.  While there are a few interesting ideas here, there's nothing that will shatter your expectations, but that doesn't stop it from being a pretty good game overall.

A fun trip through the Forgotten Realms. Not the deepest RPG but there are enough classic elements to give that nostalgic feel. Not every feature is perfect but there's a lot to enjoy.

8 / 10 - Aztez
Aug 4, 2017

Aztez misses the mark on delivering any narrative depth, even in consideration of the genres it calls home. That aside, a pretty good Turn Based Strategy game meets a really good Beat 'Em Up and delivers a solid experience. A unique setting makes this title stand out and will hopefully inspire more explorations into the history of that region.

Mass Effect games usually have decent gameplay and focus on an exceptionally written story with very engaging characters. This one feels completely reversed as the gameplay is loads of fun, with a lot of experimentation, and is also well executed. The story on the other hand suffers from major problems along with most of the characters being bland and boring. Multiplayer may be fun to play, but very little has been added to the mode to keep you engaged for long unless you’re a hardcore fan of the mode. Overall the game doesn’t really innovate much in the way of newness and there is some work to be done to make the sequel to be a success the Mass Effect that surpasses the original games. However, there is a lot of potential to explore in this brand new galaxy.
