Motocross games have come a long way since I played MX vs. ATV: Unleashed in 2005, and Monster Energy Supercross 5 proves it. Sure, the presentation is disappointing, but the developer’s attention to gameplay and controls overshadows any fault. While the developers could do more to help ease new players in, the game is still a must-play for Supercross enthusiasts.
Besides the absences of baseball and boxing, the six sports on show here are smooth, responsive, and fun. While Nintendo Switch Sports could do more for the players that play solo, the game is at its best when you play locally with friends.
Redout 2 is one of the fastest racing games I’ve played. The game is stunning, with diverse tracks and unique hover ship models. Controlling hover crafts are smooth but take time to master. This game will break you down and test your willingness to come back. The rubber banding from AI competition will make the game frustrating but overcoming those obstacles and winning races is so satisfying.
For what F1 22 lacks off the track in newness, it makes up for behind the wheel. The racing feels authentic and the changes to the physics model makes for a challenging yet rewarding experience. MyTeam and Career are deep and fun, but there’s just something that doesn’t sit right about the F1 Life.
Need for Speed Unbound pushes the series forward in new ways with a change to the game’s economy and overall feel, and it’s primed to take big steps in the coming years.
MLB The Show 23 hits a home run in some key areas and in others, not so much. However, while popular modes like Road to The Show are still being neglected, San Diego Studios still manages to improve enough to keep the experience fresh.
Legend Bowl is a really fun game. The gameplay challenges the player to learn the mechanics and play to the strengths of their players. Any hardcore football fan will appreciate the atmosphere and attention to detail.
While WWE 2K23 is a minor upgrade from its predecessor, there is enough here to satisfy returning players and introduce new ones.
EA Sports PGA Tour returns with a strong emphasis on career mode and features other fun ways to enjoy golf. While the game has some setbacks, it’s still a great return to The Masters.
As of right now, Madden 24 is a massively offensively slanted fun game and fun is all you really want from a video game at the end of the day.
There’s enough enjoyability in the gameplay department to overlook the heavy cloud of microtransactions that’s around every corner of the game
Newcomers will struggle to get started in Ride 5, but returning fans are in for a treat. Although the game doesn’t have much going for it outside of career mode, Ride 5 still produces a great hardcore racing experience.
You know what your getting when you purchase this game and they do not disappoint.
Although the new features of Football Manager 24 are small, they add value to the overall experience of being a coach in the world of football.
EA Sports WRC is another good racing game from Codemasters. Besides some minor hiccups from the technical side of that game, it’s an excellent game for fans of the DiRT series to jump into.
Tennis World Tour 2 presents as a solid tennis simulation game. The additions to court mechanics add a level of depth that will take some time to master. Having court surfaces, weather, and ball freshness attribute to the pacing and difficulty of the bout is a stroke genius and a win for simulation lovers. The thing is, sports titles have gone in many different directions since their incarnation, whether that’s being made for pure pay-to-win monetization or simulation. While drastically different, they share in the fact each one is geared to a specific audience and thus the levels of ‘fun’ differ from person to person.
If you don’t want to pay $60 for NHL 20, or want a replacement for GM Connected, this game is a nice alternative. While it has some flaws, FHM 6 certainly has a lot to offer.
It isn't perfect, but the experience has been worth the investment. WWE 2K19 has successfully pivoted the franchise in a better direction and should be enough to restore hope and faith moving forward.
Grid is its own creation, but players will see the slight resemblance of other racing games and appreciate the newest installment in the genre of Motorsports Racing. Patience is key to get a true and enjoyable racing experience from GRID, but if you are short on that be prepared to miss out on a very good title.
If you’re completely new to the series, the learning curve can be steep but for veterans, RIDE 4 exemplifies simulation with deep fine-tuning and modification options.
