Daemon X Machina is definitely a fun, adrenaline filled experience, and an impressive one at that. I've never delved into this kind of shooter before, but I would say that I have received a fantastic introduction into the genre with an impressive choice of customisation, satisfying gameplay, and intriguing plot, not to mention fantastic multiplayer... it makes me rather excited for the planned update to add competitive multiplayer modes. Though there are some improvements which could better the replayability further, such as including a scoring system to the missions, I still had a lot of fun playing the game, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a decent mech shooter for the Nintendo Switch.

New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is an absolute pleasure to play. The game is chock full of fantastically designed levels and packed with different modes, including New Super Luigi U. The challenges aren’t too easy, but not too difficult. There great ways to increase accessibility for beginners, and brilliant challenges for the experienced. Did we also mention that those Baby Yoshi’s are as cute as a dreaming puppy… or whatever is objectively cute nowadays? New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe truly is the definitive 2D Mario experience for Nintendo Switch... assuming you've never tried the original Wii U version.

Essential - WarioWare Gold
Aug 3, 2018

WarioWare Gold doesn’t really add anything new to the franchise. You know what though? I think that, although it’s a tad disappointing, that’s absolutely okay. It’s brilliant to actually get a brand new WarioGame after nine long years, and this one boasts of of the best WarioWare has to offer, which is frantically fun microgames, lots of little things to play around with, and totally bizarre content… though I’ll always miss Wobbly Bobbly from WarioWare Inc. Mega Party Games, I destroyed people with that in game nights. Whether you’re entering a relay race with a gorilla, wasting bog roll, playing an extreme version of patty cake, you’re in for a barrel (or 3DS) full of fun and laughs!

Guts and Glory is a very fun and hilarious game but is largely let down by the broken camera, heavy framerate dips, omitted content, and poor graphics. It's a shame because it has the potential to be a great Switch title with a decent price, but in all honesty, it should have gotten a lot more polish before being submitted onto the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a fantastic title for the Nintendo Switch which is filled with a lot of smartly designed levels which are a hoot to play. Though I feel it doesn't have enough new content to warrant purchasing again (though those Odyssey levels are pretty amazing), I would urge anyone who never checked out the original to dip into this version on the Nintendo Switch!

Essential - Runbow
Jul 5, 2018

Runbow was fantastic when it came out on the Nintendo Wii U, and it is still just as fantastic on the Nintendo Switch, especially with the versatility of the console. The gameplay is solid and extremely fun, and it also provides a really good challenge, whether you are playing competitively or cooperatively. Even though nothing new has been added and the online can be a bit niggly, Runbow is a Switch title that everyone should have, ready to play at a gathering!

Mario Tennis Aces improves just about every aspect which fans found disappointing about Ultra Smash. Tournament mode makes a triumphant return which is accompanied by online tournaments with decent and quick matchmaking. The title also comes packed with an extensive single player experience which does a good job of honing in your tennis skills, a incredibly fun mode that solely uses motion controls, as well as brand new powerful techniques that help to vary the gameplay further. The game can also still appeal to the tennis purist as almost all modes allow you to completely remove gimmicks from the court. Unfortunately there are a few decisions that honestly make no sense, such as not being able to determine the amount of sets to play in free play, though luckily this isn’t enough to deter me from the title.

Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido is a brilliantly bizarre, fast-paced action/puzzler. The battle mechanics are simple to grasp, but have enough depth to make it a challenge to master. The game is also accompanied by a range of quirky characters and an over the top plot… but it also strangely fits into place. Though the gameplay is sometimes repetitive, there is still a sushi boat load of fun to be had over the 150 or so battles.

The name is rather suiting, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition is definitely the strongest entry in the Hyrule Warriors games yet.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze was an amazing game on the Wii U and it's still the same delight on the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Labo is definitely a fantastic new innovation from Nintendo. It’s the perfect excuse to build some cool stuff with your family (or in my case, on your own), and it comes with pretty easy to follow instructions (IKEA should really take a leaf from Nintendo here).

Recommended - Detective Pikachu
Apr 1, 2018

Though the game does fall into the trap of becoming repetitive at times, with not a lot to do post game, Detective Pikachu is still a pretty decent spin-off which lets you see another perspective in the Pokémon world for both fans and newcomers.
