Critic Reviews for Guts and Glory

Guts and Glory is a really fun little indie that's burst out of the gates and onto Nintendo Switch, but the porting process has taken its toll. The basic rinse and repeat nature of its challenges and the madcap bloodbath of its physics are a laugh-out-loud combination while they last, but without the long-term appeal of the map editor and its library of user-generated content, the Switch version suffers as a result.

I would say if you're looking for a trial and error game with high difficulty, but rewarding game play, go for Trials over Guts and Glory. You'll get a few laughs seeing how characters die, but in the end, it becomes frustrating far too quickly.

It's absolutely crazy, off the wall, batshit insane. It is basically just Happy Wheels but in 3D, bundled with all the gore, characters and “charm”. If you can even call it charm. Sadistic charm is probably better.

Guts and Glory isn't the first, and won't be the last title that lost its playability being ported to the Switch (WWE 2K18 comes to mind). It's another example of all ports not being equal as developers still struggle to discover all of the ins and out of the porting process. If getting sliced in half or impaled by a buzzsaw is a can't miss experience, I would recommend looking at another platform to play it on.

Bloody primitive ride with physics-driven vehicles and destruction for very modest players.

Guts and Glory is completely sadistic and crazy – I love it. The console version isn’t a scratch on its big brother PC version though as it doesn’t have access to the level creator. Regardless, you still have access to nine challenges with 6-9 missions in each, all of which will frustrate and annoy you for many hours. The graphics are very basic but the gameplay more than makes up for it and the sheer amount of WTF, OMG and LOL moments you’ll have will keep you entertained for a long time.

It’s all a bit crap then, but to be honest there are laughs to be had. I can’t recommend you go out there and buy this game. In a July like this there are so many actually good games to go out and try and that you can’t be spending money on turgid nonsensical garbage like Guts & Glory.

Guts and Glory is a very fun and hilarious game but is largely let down by the broken camera, heavy framerate dips, omitted content, and poor graphics. It's a shame because it has the potential to be a great Switch title with a decent price, but in all honesty, it should have gotten a lot more polish before being submitted onto the Nintendo Switch eShop.
