What impressed me most about this game was moving about in the world. The graphics are crisp and there is a fluidity that surpasses Pokémon Sun and Moon, with an additional level of interactiveness
Gran Turismo Sport is a technical masterpiece. It perfectly showcases what the PlayStation 4 is capable of and is one of the most visually stunning racing games I’ve played. As a career racer, sadly it falls short. Although in spite of its online focused design, the game is still full of innovation which makes it all the more sad to see it cut down to such a small roster of tracks and cars.
It’s certainly a game made for fans of the series, and while it doesn’t shy away from controversial topics, it also has some more touching and sentimental moments creating a great balance and making it much easier to simply laugh off some of the more crude aspects. If you’re a fan of the television series or simply have a wicked sense of humour, South Park The Fractured But Whole is certainly a game you’ll spend several hours enjoying.
Normally when a game is this tough it can be off-putting, but the combination of intense difficulty and the skill required to learn each pattern is incredibly satisfying. It’s a fine balance that Cuphead is able to achieve with every single boss you’ll encounter, and even when you’re feeling frustrated, the brilliant soundtrack and completely unique art direction will keep you smiling with every new attempt. The standard for combining style and substance in this genre has well and truly been set.
Indie developer Vagabond Dog and edgy publisher Devolver Digital have put together a visually charming, audibly impressive, but otherwise unfulfilling little title that I doubt I would return to. The 9 hour journey from beginning to end is a tumultuous one, filled with depressive tendencies, impossible choices, monotonous repetition, and nary a decent character in sight.
...the longer you play the more problems you notice and the more you realise that the game simply doesn’t feel complete or coherent. I don’t think Generation Zero will be remembered fondly in the future, if remembered at all.
What frustrates me the most about Anthem is that the things that work in the game's favour are really well implemented. It feels like a complete waste to have these awesome traversal and combat mechanics utilised in such an uninspired game
There’s the potential for a good game here, but there’s no internal logic to the storytelling, controls are exhausting, it’s a bug addled mess, and its reliance on shock value and ham-fisted treatment of delicate topics drive me up the wall.
...after such a long wait between episode 2 and 3 it feels like there should have been more on offer here
I can forgive the game for a lot of its shortcomings, although there’s something about Borderlands 3 that I absolutely cannot forgive – its technical problems.
Fans of the Atelier franchise might get a kick out of seeing familiar faces, but by combining a JRPG and a city management sim, it creates a result less than the sum of its parts.
The Princess Guide could be considered a diamond in the rough... although there's a lot of rough and not many diamonds
Feudal Alloy really doesn't do anything impressive or attracting besides a unique art style that unfortunately isn't explored enough.
Ellie puts it best, “it looks okay from far off, but once you get close you realise it’s just the same mismatched shit that everyone’s agreed to overpay for”.
Underneath the layers of dull writing and sometimes repetitive gameplay is an enjoyable and fun time to be had.
I’m not entirely sure Man of Medan is the absolute strongest example they could have put forward to launch what they hope to be an ongoing successful series.
PixARK is a very complicated game that allows almost complete freedom, but at a cost.
Pathologic 2’s outstanding story and thought-provoking journey suffer from outdated execution.
...doesn't really bring anything new to the table. It's enjoyable enough, but is mostly uninspired.
Xenon Racer is a perfectly serviceable arcade racer, but the significant technical shortcomings of the Switch port make it difficult to recommend in its current state.
