A wonderful crafting system accompanied by some destructive gameplay.

I was seriously expecting something that I could sink in maybe 6-7 hours into but this game has just so little to offer. The community made stuff is interesting but I don’t see it succeeding that much in that department. It can be fun with friends and since you can have so many people playing it could be a really fun party game. But at a base level the game fails to impress at almost everything. It’s like it’s almost there but just doesn’t quite have it yet. I feel like I’ve been way too harsh on this game. And that might be cause I’ve been spoiled by so many great top-down shooters that they just leave this in the dust. Either way this game doesn’t have huge faults but it just lacking everywhere.

All in all, Dark Rose Valkyrie is a flawed game. It’s a disappointing game. It’s a game that falls prey to every single issue Idea Factory is known for…However if you like Idea Factory’s games (Unlike me), then this may very well be your new favourite IP from them…It’s certainly for a niche market, having not sold well even over in Japan shipping only 12,000 copies at retail on the first week of release back in 2016, however if you’re in that niche market, you could find more positives than I could.

7 / 10 - Tekken 7
Jun 1, 2017

Overall I think Tekken succeeds in living up to the legacy its established and for me personally I think this is the best Tekken game since 5. The weird way character endings are presented was really off putting, and the main story was short and not all that great. A larger main story as well as challenging the player to actually earn the character endings would’ve made it a whole lot better. But at its core it’s a damn fine fighting game and it’ll be keeping me invested for a long, long time.

There is certainty some fun to be had, but you’ll tend to only find that in the first hour that you play.

The game is a present packed into a tidier gift box than the first game came to us in.

8.5 / 10.0 - The Surge
May 15, 2017

Whilst it is clear that The Surge is not a perfect Soulsborne adaptation, it introduces enough new features to be a stand out addition to the hardcore action RPG genre that made me feel accomplished at times and utter despair at others.

7 / 10.0 - The Silver Case
Apr 26, 2017

All in all, The Silver Case is a long, enjoyable visual novel that is feeling the aches of time – The controls haven’t aged well, nor has some of the dialogue…But if you can fight through it, and battle against the urge to fall asleep during some of the lesser parts of the game and understand what the bloody hell is happening, you’ll possibly find yourself with a new gem courtesy of Suda51…

Halo 5 made the multiplayer experience feel larger and more cinematic, unfortunately it just needs bringing up with it’s narrative.

8 / 10.0 - The Banner Saga

The Banner Saga does a lot of things well, the animation, music, narrative and combat is all neatly packed together to make a fun, working experience.

I want to love Shiness, I really do, however little things here and there keep pushing me back more and more; it annoys me, since this game has the sort of charm and love that I look for in games, just graphical and battle-system based issues keep it locked behind a low score. Shiness gets a 6.5 / 10. I REALLY want to give this title a 7 / 10, but for the reasons above, I feel like it needs a little more work to achieve this vision.

In the end I can only say I had a boring time, that’s right, boring. The game by no means is bad. It can be quite good for some people but clearly I wasn’t impressed by it at all, everything from the gameplay to the art style just rubbed me the wrong way and just left me bored. If this game was for some mobile device or some kind of portable console I could maybe forgive a lot of the things. But as a game that’s on Steam where there is an absolutely countless amount of amazing games out I just can’t see this game working. And for the price of $8.99 you could buy something that has a lot more polish and care but into it. Monster Slayers for me at least is lifeless and dull with only a few redeeming qualities that I frankly, can’t even accept but I know other people could.

9 / 10.0 - Persona 5
Apr 7, 2017

Persona 5 is a masterful game, which has breathed new life into the JRPG genre; it has injected a flair of style that hasn't quite been matched before, and as such, has become a new standard for JRPGs to match. Despite this though, the game is far from perfect, but is most definitely the most powerful evolution of Persona to date. Here's hoping we don't get 20 Persona 5 spinoffs and Persona 6 will be able to finally encrust this franchise in the annals of history forever.

I wanted to love this title, having a Mystery Dungeon game on my PS4, however I’ve come to the stern realisation that, maybe, Mystery Dungeon games should just stay on handhelds, for now. Tohou Gensou Wanderer gets a 6 / 10 for me. The asking price of £40 is FAR too high for something like this, but if you like Mystery Dungeon games, or the Touhou franchise, give it a shot!

You can see a lot of work has gone into Blossom Tales and the characters and pixels will take you back in time for a fun time. It teaches that you shouldn't judge every SNES looking game as a Zelda rip off and appreciate everything for what it likes to do differently. A fun adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed to listen and play through.

Breath of the Wild is an excellent adventure with an open world that is fun to explore and uncover, because of this I have still played on hours after the final boss, with areas still to explore. If you have a WiiU there is no harm in buying it, if you don't have either console the Switch is the more recommended place to start with an excellent handheld and TV option. As a Zelda game it makes some interesting changes to the existing formula that are completely welcome. Whether you're an explorer, fighter or speedrunner, Breath of the Wild brings an experience that lingers long in your memory, it deserves praise and more than one playthrough. While it does meet the highest expectations, there are still small annoyances that can tick off certain players.

Dynasty Warriors is by no means a bad game, but it isn’t a game that is great either. It’s bland and boring with only a small amount of satisfaction to be had with the gameplay. If some more depth was added and more interesting mechanics, interesting enemies and even better attack animations I could see this game being a fun little experience. The historical figures and the time period it is set around is interesting but not interesting enough for me to power through how bored I was playing this game. It’s probably one of the least offensive games I’ve ever played. With a game that does nothing interesting in a market where so many interesting things are being done I don’t think this game has any right to be more than it is. In the end I can only say that it’s a game.

Asides from confusion, one thing that Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is good at is providing interesting, well written character dialogues and interactions between it’s varied and colourful cast of 16 school students – From Akane, the Gymnast with the heart of a tiger, to the eccentric and folklore-spewing Ghundam, to the calm, quiet and reference-spewing Chiaki, each character has their own unique charm, quirk, and memorable piece of backstory that’ll stick with you throughout even the final moments of the game.
