8 / 10.0 - Observation
May 30, 2019

Throughout it’s 5-7 hour campaign Observation will take you on a thrilling journey and put you front and centre inside a space craft. Slowly uncovering the game’s mysteries by completing numerous puzzles. While I really enjoyed my time with Observation I would have loved for some of these puzzles to be more complex to solve. And while the environments on the ship look great No Code haven’t quite hit that AAA level of quality when it comes to the primary character models just yet. But they have definitely produced a quality title here and I’m really looking forward to see what the team puts out next.

8 / 10.0 - Days Gone
May 9, 2019

Bend have laid some really solid ground work here with Days Gone. It was their first console title in 12 years and if they continue building out the world of Days Gone, take on player feedback and fix the gameplay issues people are having issues with then the sequel game will be well on it’s way to being a title ‘freak’ out over. While there were some technical issues I encountered along the way and I didn’t encounter that ‘Sony level magic’ (which is a pretty high bar to hold things against) I did have a lot of fun with Days Gone surviving the ever-cruel world and doing it in my style.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is a really fun action RPG that can now come with you on the go. It does have a few technical issues but Dragon’s Dogma always has never been a perfect game on any platform when it comes to overall performance. For the asking price and amount of value on offer you won’t find a better party based action rpg on the Nintendo Switch. Fans of high fantasy will have a blast with this release.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season is a very satisfying ending. Without going into too much detail and spoiling things, it was moving to see that in a world so grim and full of monsters it’s still possible to have a heartwarming moment or two. And possibly best of all to see the book close on this series that began 7 years ago.

If you’re a fan of randomised dungeon crawlers, you’ll likely have a lot of fun here. Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon Every Buddy is a great entry in the Mystery Dungeon series. Don’t be put off by it’s art direction and think that you’re only in for a game built for kids. It’s strategy and risk/reward requirements allow it to be fun for everyone. Unfortunately the visuals are showing their age a bit but it certainly doesn’t take away from the fun factor the game nails.

Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn is a very charming platformer filled with vibrant colours and characters made of yarn. The addition of a Devilish mode adds a new layer of challenge for players that want some consequence in their Kirby experience. Unfortunately the co-op mode from the original game has been stripped out but there’s still so much charm packed into this experience that Kirby fans will still get a kick out of. It’s a game that can be enjoyed by players of all ages.

Far Cry New Dawn’s moment to moment gameplay is all about fun. It’s story isn’t as strong as previous entries but it makes up for that by delivering on what makes a Far Cry game so great. The world. And there’s a ton for you to do here. Even if like me you’re not a big fan of the main quest line you’ll still have a ball clearing outposts, leveling up your abilities, crafting new upgrades and weapons, completing treasure hunts and expedition missions or even jumping in with a friend and exploring Hope County cooperatively. The new mechanics and systems introduced here have me really excited to see what Ubisoft come out with in the next Far Cry entry.

The marketing material summed it up best when they described Etrian Odyssey Nexus as ‘a love letter to Etrian’. Not only have the longtime series character designers and composers come back to produce a great send off for the 3DS, it’s also a great sendoff for the Etrian Odyssey series if it has no plans to move to Nintendo Switch and this is in fact the final entry in the franchise.

8 / 10.0 - God Eater 3
Feb 7, 2019

God Eater 3 provides a fun and addicting action RPG set in a post apocalyptic world with a constant looming threat. I enjoyed constantly tweaking my character and crafting bigger and better gear to take out the next Aragami boss. While I do wish the game was more consistent visually and did find the core structure of the game becoming quite repetitive as I went on, the character driven story was interesting and drove me to continue pushing through missions. If you’re a fan of the monster hunting genre and are looking to jump into a game that is fun even with some flaws I think you’ll enjoy God Eater 3.

Bendy and the Ink Machine is a great horror/thriller game that is now available on home consoles. It will have you trying to piece together the inner workings of Joey Drew Studios to solve it’s mysteries and uncover it’s true story. While the home console ports have had some slight graphical tweaks all of the content from the complete edition of the PC version is present and ready to play here. If you’re looking for a short but interesting thriller title that will have you on the edge of your seat at times you should definitely check it out.

The Knowledge is Power series continue to be my favourite in the PlayLink library of games and if you enjoyed Knowledge is Power then you’re going to have a great time here with Decades. It expands upon the systems introduced in the first game with new mini games and Power Plays but stays quite safe with the overall framework of the game. If you’re having friends over and want to play a really enjoyable quiz game you can’t look past Knowledge is Power: Decades.

While this was disappointing to see it’s hard to be too critical on the collection for this based on how well the games themselves perform (which is really what we’re playing it for at the end of the day) and it’s really reasonable price point. If you’ve played these games before there isn’t anything new here besides being on a new system for the first time with enabled trophy support. But for those that haven’t, do yourselves a favour and spend the $24.95 and pick this collection up.

8 / 10.0 - Transference
Sep 27, 2018

I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with Transference, uncovering the mysteries that have taken place in the Hayes household. It’s immersiveness when playing in VR scared me in clever ways and it’s graphical fidelity made me believe I was really walking through a real apartment. While the asking price may be a bit steep for some, I would definitely recommend keeping this game on your radar if you like psychological thrillers and own a VR headset.

8 / 10.0 - Yakuza Kiwami 2
Aug 27, 2018

With a story full of well written characters and a plot that is packed full of drama and numerous twists and turns it easy to see why Yakuza 2 is still classed by many of the series’ fans as the best entry in the franchise. This remake treats the original source material with a lot of respect and retains the core of what made it so great while injecting new systems in to better suit a 2018 audience. The visual fidelity and open world traversal have been vastly improved thanks to the Dragon Engine and it has me excited to see what’s to come in the future as the other PS3 Yakuza games have been confirmed to be getting re-releases in the future.

Mario Tennis Aces is another great arcade tennis game in the Mario Tennis franchise. It’s an absolute joy to play and it’s gameplay feels fun, rewarding and has a good balance of accessible fun and challenging difficulty, for the most part. While I would have loved a longer single player campaign and more to do after I had finished it, it’s multiplayer mode will offer near endless enjoyment for those that enjoy playing online whether that be casually or competitively. Fingers crossed we get some new characters, courts and rackets to unlock down the line.

If you’re not a fan of the Musou genre, One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 isn’t going to change your mind. It is first and foremost a massive scale beat em up just set in the One Piece universe. But if you a fan of the Musou genre and either love One Piece or want to see what One Piece is about then you’re going to have a great time with this game. It’s welcoming to newcomers and there’s a ton of content here already to keep you entertained and levelling up your characters for hours on end but the Switch Deluxe Edition comes with that extra cherry on top with the bundled in DLC.

Omega Force have managed to capture the look and feel of the Attack on Titan universe incredibly well here in Attack on Titan 2. Its a great jumping on point for anyone interested in the franchise even those that haven’t experienced the first game.

I had a great time playing through The Invisible Hours. It was an interesting way to tell a murder mystery story and was done in a way where you can experience the plot twists from many different perspectives. With the initial experience being fairly short it caters to those that are only able to experience VR in short bursts but can always jump back in to experience the story from another angle.

Knowledge Is Power is a great social party game that is easily accessible and really fun to play. I would suggest playing with at least 3 players to add further enjoyment and strategy to the game but can be played with as little as 2 if you and 1 other just want to enjoy a casual quiz. It's quick game time means you can play multiple games quite quickly throughout the night but would have loved if the topics weren't loaded based on prior gameplay choices.
