Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is part of the Mysterious Trilogy and it's not difficult to see why it's the best game in the series thanks to the improvements that help shape it into a more modern experience while keeping the spirit of the formula intact. A wide and varied world to explore and with very addictive ways to do so, an engaging and dynamic combat system, and an overall refined experience that makes this a memorable game and a very welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

Wonder Boy Collection is a 35th anniversary celebration of SEGA's iconic Wonder Boy series and this compilation brings four of its most appreciated games under a competent conversion. Four games might seem short, though, and this compilation would be better if it included more games, but what we have here is a good work with the necessary modern day adaptations to ensure a smooth, enjoyable, nostalgic experience to everyone, as well as to welcome newcomers to the Wonder Boy series.

It may not be a revolution but everything it does, it does it right, from the demanding and well crafted gameplay to the art style, along with the amazing boss fights, humorous dialogues and technical execution. Any fan of platformers as well as of Metroidvania-type of games will be more than satisfied with playing Blast Brigade vs. the Evil Legion of Dr. Cread.

Move or Die: Unleashed does what its title says: if players don't move, they'll die. Simple to learn, simple to look at, but frantic to play, Move or Die: Unleashed consists of several action minigames and while it can be played solo, it's on multiplayer, both local and online, that Move or Die: Unleashed really turns out at its best. It's not a technical achievement but everyone looking for a simple package that can provide hours of crazy fun will find every minute spent with Move or Die: Unleashed to be worth down to each second.

8 / 10 - Slipstream
Jun 13, 2022

Slipstream presents itself as an assumed tribute to driving retro classics and that's what the game's fantastic visual world aims at achieving. With a gameplay that's both addictive and demanding, a great variety of game modes to choose from, customization options and an experience that hits the right spot when it comes to driving classics, Slipstream could be even better if its multiplayer mode went beyond local and included an online component as well.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is rather unexpected in the sense that it's a prequel of a game that hasn't been released yet, but that doesn't prevent it from having a great plot and outstanding characters. It does take its time to gather pace, however, which requires some patience until the game shows all its value, but the most committed players will be duly rewarded with Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising until the next game arrives.

5 / 10 - Bugsnax
Jun 6, 2022

Bugsnax is a colourful and visually appealing game that boasts an interesting concept. However the way its ideas are implemented and the technical issues that need to be addressed end up harming Bugsnax more than they should. Adding to that some rather frustrating control problems and a feeling of repetitiveness that becomes apparent too early, and the experience of Bugsnax falls below the threshold of a remarkable adventure game.

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers goes under a visual renovation and presents a new aesthetic that will help it becoming more popular with a wider audience. The gameplay experience remains the same compared to the previous EDF games, improved even, it can be said. At the same time, EDF's issues with performance have not made a lot of progress and the game's lack of a local co-op multiplayer that requires only one Nintendo Switch will make this a less attractive game for those looking for this kind of experience, especially given its relatively high price.

The Cruel King and the Great Hero brings us an RPG with a charming and gorgeous art style, coupled with a plot that's very appealing and a gameplay that's designed to be accessible for players less versed in this kind of games. At the same time, more experienced players might feel put off by the game's accessibility and rather slow pace, but The Cruel King and the Great Hero puts up a good effort that would only benefit from a more in-depth combat system and faster pacing.

May 7, 2022

Chocobo GP marks the return of racing games based on these beloved Final Fantasy characters and this is nothing short of a very welcome new effort in this line, with a large and varied cast, as well as an immense amount of content to unlock. The gameplay is fairly simple and accessible, the main campaign acts as a great motivator to keep us going and the online multiplayer is a charm. Chocobo GP is a game that will keep its players around the screen for many fun hours.

Some of these are known classics, others are less resounding works. While the emulation is good enough to present a good, flawless experience comparable to the originals, there are several elements here that deserved better, namely the interface and additional information, which is very little and gives almost no insight into TAITO's rich arcade past.

5 / 10 - Ashwalkers
Apr 26, 2022

Ashwalkers does a good job in presenting a wide variety of possible endings as well as creating a gloom, somber post-apocalyptic world for the players to dwell in. Ashwalkers doesn't deliver the same positive elements when it comes to technical execution and controls, thus contributing for a rather frustrating experience that makes it difficult to explore and to try to find all the different endings, while also harming the player's connection with the characters.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX is a competent re-edition of the two original games that gives some of its elements a more modern flair while keeping the series' main characteristics intact. While it's inevitable to find that some of the elements feel outdated, this is still a fun and creative experience, and one that will make long-time fans of these cult classics very glad to have them on a Nintendo Switch.

Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection is the first time that these three games can be experienced on a Nintendo console and the result is nothing but positive. Other than the value of playing the three games starring Ezio, it's possible to enjoy the improvements from one game to the other and its many hours of action, as well as the two short films included in the collection. Not all is perfect and some visual choices, as well as the presence of some outdated mechanics, will raise eyebrows but this is a great opportunity to experience three Assassin's Creed classics, whether for the first time or as a revisit.
