May 7, 2022

Chocobo GP marks the return of racing games based on these beloved Final Fantasy characters and this is nothing short of a very welcome new effort in this line, with a large and varied cast, as well as an immense amount of content to unlock. The gameplay is fairly simple and accessible, the main campaign acts as a great motivator to keep us going and the online multiplayer is a charm. Chocobo GP is a game that will keep its players around the screen for many fun hours.

With its fine exploration of themes that are rarely touched upon in similar games at this level, Lost Words is nothing short of a masterpiece in storytelling and narrative development that everyone should add to their Nintendo Switch.

Some of these are known classics, others are less resounding works. While the emulation is good enough to present a good, flawless experience comparable to the originals, there are several elements here that deserved better, namely the interface and additional information, which is very little and gives almost no insight into TAITO's rich arcade past.

5 / 10 - Ashwalkers
Apr 26, 2022

Ashwalkers does a good job in presenting a wide variety of possible endings as well as creating a gloom, somber post-apocalyptic world for the players to dwell in. Ashwalkers doesn't deliver the same positive elements when it comes to technical execution and controls, thus contributing for a rather frustrating experience that makes it difficult to explore and to try to find all the different endings, while also harming the player's connection with the characters.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX is a competent re-edition of the two original games that gives some of its elements a more modern flair while keeping the series' main characteristics intact. While it's inevitable to find that some of the elements feel outdated, this is still a fun and creative experience, and one that will make long-time fans of these cult classics very glad to have them on a Nintendo Switch.

Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection is the first time that these three games can be experienced on a Nintendo console and the result is nothing but positive. Other than the value of playing the three games starring Ezio, it's possible to enjoy the improvements from one game to the other and its many hours of action, as well as the two short films included in the collection. Not all is perfect and some visual choices, as well as the presence of some outdated mechanics, will raise eyebrows but this is a great opportunity to experience three Assassin's Creed classics, whether for the first time or as a revisit.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga delivers what is not just the most ambitious LEGO Star Wars game but the most ambitious game in the LEGO series so far. Its stunning portrait of the Star Wars world, the improved combat system, and the overwhelming amount of content to discover and obtain all contribute to make this an absolute marvel of a game, one that fans of both Star Wars and the LEGO gaming series should get their hands on.

Egglia Rebirth is a fun and accessible RPG with a peculiar premise but a simple enough gameplay that's best enjoyed in shorter time segments rather than in longer sessions. Its origins in mobile gaming are very much on sight but that doesn't mean it doesn't fit well in the Nintendo Switch catalogue, with plenty of humor, fun quests and a lovely art style.

8 / 10 - Tinker Racers
Apr 8, 2022

Simple enough, accessible and with a lot of fun moments, Tinker Racers is not pretentious but it does provide a lot of crazy fun, especially when played on local multiplayer. A marvelous and affordable indie game that will keep players around the Nintendo Switch for many hours.

Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain brings the Big Brain series to the Nintendo Switch and the result is a game that's more focused on a multiplayer experience, locally and online, by pitying players in competition with each other. The result is a very solid effort that consists of a high quality set of minigames, controls that fit perfectly with the Nintendo Switch, and a very motivating gameplay. A great, if somewhat unexpected, addition to the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

PowerSlave Exhumed is a return to an early time in the evolution of First Person Shooters, with this 1996 classic that was ahead of its time at the moment of release showing that it can still stand the test of time. Thanks to an excellent work of adaptation to the Nintendo Switch, this version fits perfectly with today thanks to its technical and control updates, and its mix of action and exploration works perfect to bring back an FPS classic, one that's recommended to every fan of the genre.

Lacuna puts the player in the middle of a dense, enveloping plot that takes part in a futuristic world where we will be carrying out a detective work, solving puzzles, and become completely immersed in an exquisite intellectual challenge. The conversion work to the Nintendo Switch is done flawlessly and the game runs smoothly on both a television screen and on the console's own screen, which is an extra advantage as Lacuna is a perfect company for playing on the go.

Super Arcade Football does a great job at creating a nostalgic experience that's able to channel one of football's most famous gaming series, and with a simple, accessible, as well as fast-paced gameplay what we get is a game that might not be the most in-depth football experience ever made, but it certainly manages to build a fun and enjoyable game. Pity for solo players, though, who due to a poor AI will find themselves bored compared to their multiplayer peers.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus dares to make things different, and that is its main quality. The Pokémon formula has undergone changes for the best, and even though there is work to be done on matters like the visual environment in Arceus' wide and open world, this is a game that operates very welcome changes to the fighting system and to the way the player fulfills the main goals. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is without a doubt a shining example of how the Pokémon series can face the future.

River City Girls Zero presents us with the original 1994 game that shows where the characters' stories began. A fun, intuitive beat'em-up with a lot of plot, but which also shows that it doesn't follow its contemporaries when it comes to pacing and lifespan - indeed, this game feels too short and it advances too slowly. A full remake would have been a better option, but as it is River City Girls Zero is an enjoyable beat'em-up that fans of the genre will like to get their hands on.

Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 does not represent any major departures compared to its predecessor, and if that may sound negative it's also not necessarily harmful - after all, the gameplay mechanics remain fun and well executed, the boss fights are very challenging, and the game's presentation is a marvel to look at. The plot is without a doubt the game's biggest flaw, and even though action-platformers are usually given a pass when it comes to the plot, it would be good in this case if the story could feature less often. With all that said, Luminous Avenger iX 2 is great fun and fans of both the original and the Mega Man X series will find plenty to enjoy here.
