6.5 / 10.0 - Hellboy Web of Wyrd
Nov 5, 2023

The key word here is repetition. While the gameplay isn’t particularly bad, the game offers little in the way of meaningful challenge, and the limited number of upgrades available during each run doesn’t allow for particularly satisfying builds. The impression is that Hellboy: Web of Wyrd might have been much more enjoyable with a linear structure.

Despite somewhat simplistic gameplay and an open world that feels a little bland compared to other games in the genre, Spider-Man 2 manages to carry players through to the credits thanks to its stellar technical presentation and a truly compelling story.

7.5 / 10.0 - Mortal Kombat 1
Sep 28, 2023

In this new, colorful universe, the Fatalities feel less convincing, with some coming across as downright uninspired. The ability to perform classic Fatalities with Kameo characters is a nice touch, but ultimately little more than a cosmetic flourish that adds nothing meaningful to the game.

8.5 / 10.0 - Blasphemous 2
Aug 30, 2023

What makes Blasphemous 2 such a great game is the successful blend of Soulslike mechanics, platforming, exploration, and combat. Let’s be clear: the game doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it executes everything it sets out to do exceptionally well.

Unfortunately, Ninja or Die leans too heavily into its own quirkiness, rather than focusing on being genuinely fun or, at the very least, interesting. Unlocking additional characters beyond the ninja adds a touch of variety to the gameplay—for instance, the Geisha can fire sonic waves—but the core experience remains firmly rooted in a series of jumps to be spammed relentlessly.

5.5 / 10.0 - Exoprimal
Jul 26, 2023

Exoprimal certainly makes a strong first impression, with polished animations, visually striking exosuits, and the kind of arcade-style chaos that can be a lot of fun for a few matches. Despite a solid Japanese metal soundtrack and appealing visual effects, however, the overall design feels decidedly generic, while the maps lack detail.

8 / 10.0 - Diablo IV
Jun 23, 2023

The gameplay is so well-crafted that it makes you want to try out every class. Everything in Diablo IV works, from the story and core gameplay to its engaging endgame.

7.5 / 10.0 - Dead Island 2
May 1, 2023

Dead Island 2 does exactly what it sets out to do: take zombie carnage to levels never before seen in a video game. Its excellent gameplay, defined by an outrageous and utterly unforgettable violence system, is further enhanced by a vast arsenal of weapons, solid environmental interactivity, and the ability to customize your characters’ skills through cards.

The Resident Evil 4 remake also proves that, even today, it’s still possible to make a linear AAA action game that gives players plenty of freedom to explore and engage in frenetic combat, without necessarily relying on introspective storytelling or intricate lore.

6 / 10.0 - Scars Above
Mar 9, 2023

The overall design of the world within the Metadrome and its aliens is decidedly generic, another major blow that significantly detracts from the immersion. Visually, the game fails to impress, with everything rendered in somewhat drab tones and textures and details that feel rather rough around the edges.

Adglobe’s game is fairly challenging, although for the most part it plays fair and allows players to learn from their mistakes. It’s a punishing experience, but one that can be incredibly rewarding, especially when you make the right choices and manage to complete a mission with every character still standing.

4 / 10.0 - Wanted: Dead
Feb 17, 2023

The linear levels certainly don’t help. The experience boils down to mowing down a dozen identical enemies before moving on to the next wave, repeating the process ad nauseam until you reach the level’s boss. Forget about exploring the environment or uncovering hidden secrets—in Wanted: Dead, all you do is move from one checkpoint to the next, with barely a surprise along the way.

Moonrider is fun, visually striking, and great to listen to, with its retro aesthetic hitting all the right notes. It’s a real shame, though, that for seasoned gamers accustomed to this kind of game, Moonrider feels like an absolute walk in the park.

5.5 / 10.0 - Forspoken
Jan 30, 2023

A derivative open-world game with a simplistic combat system that is partially salvaged by its devastating magic and functional movement mechanics. All of this is wrapped in a predictable, poorly written story populated by decidedly forgettable characters.
