8 / 10.0 - KILL KNIGHT
Oct 7, 2024

Fast-paced, adrenaline-fueled, and complex, Kill Knight is a must-play for any fan of twin-stick shooters. Its mechanics are finely tuned, and while it doesn’t offer anything revolutionary in terms of design, it more than makes up for it with rock-solid, deeply satisfying gameplay.

Dead Rising remains far more compelling than many other zombie games precisely because you can actually “fail” the entire campaign, while still maintaining a lighthearted, carefree gameplay experience without heavy survival mechanics.

9 / 10.0 - Frostpunk 2
Sep 21, 2024

This is a game as cold as ice, harsh and steeped in the poetic cruelty of Cormac McCarthy, yet deeply compelling and rewarding at the same time.

Overall, the game is a very enjoyable experience, with an authentic retro feel that remains intact. However, some input lag can detract from the experience, particularly during the platforming sections, where precise controls are essential.

Overall, Capcom’s game is a very enjoyable experience, but it stumbles on a few design choices that undermine its core gameplay. The boss fights and base-building mechanics leave something to be desired when compared to the Tower Defense sections, where the game truly shines and delivers some genuinely satisfying moments.

8.5 / 10.0 - CONSCRIPT
Aug 3, 2024

Conscript is a truly excellent survival horror game, and one of the best titles set during World War I currently available. With great tact, and without resorting to Lovecraftian beasts or endless exposition dumps, it manages to bring the horrors of war to life in videogame form with class and a deep respect for both the historical period and the survival horror genre.

6 / 10.0 - Robobeat
Jun 4, 2024

The game’s main appeal is, of course, the ability to create your own playlist and shoot to the beat. It’s a great idea, but unfortunately, some tracks don’t sync properly with the action, making the rhythm-based shootouts feel a little confusing at times.

8.5 / 10.0 - MULLET MADJACK
May 21, 2024

Hammer95’s game deserves plenty of attention from FPS fans, although there are a few shortcomings worth mentioning. First and foremost, the weapons: while they’re all enjoyable to use, some ultimately feel a little underwhelming. The Shotgun and Plasma Rifle, for example, are simply too slow, which feels completely at odds with the game’s overall design.

The whole thing feels like a rushed, poorly polished remake that was left to chance, making a clumsy attempt to win over fans of the series, ironically the only audience likely to get much enjoyment out of it.

7.5 / 10.0 - Indika

Kudos are also due for the direction of the cutscenes and the soundtrack, although the English voice acting is a little less impressive. While clearly well produced, it occasionally suffers from some inconsistencies in the tone adopted by the actors.

Renè Rother’s work is compelling enough to make Children of the Sun an easy recommendation for gamers looking for an indie title with an interesting and original gameplay experience. Although the protagonist’s freedom of movement is severely limited, Children of the Sun still manages to be thrilling and deeply engaging.

8.5 / 10.0 - Dragon's Dogma 2
Apr 5, 2024

Despite its flaws, particularly in the writing of some quests and its uneven difficulty curve, Dragon’s Dogma 2 stands out as a truly unique experience within the open-world RPG genre. It could almost be described as bizarre, or even as a caricature of classic fantasy epics, blending occasionally hilarious situations with a sense of tension that reaches its full intensity in the endgame.

Overall, it’s a solid run ’n gun, but in terms of impact, it falls short when compared both to the original series and to other recent titles in the genre.

7 / 10.0 - Pacific Drive
Mar 8, 2024

The blend of atmospheres inspired by S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Twin Peaks manages to transport players into a fascinating world that feels both lost and strangely familiar. The radio soundtrack is another highlight, with each track perfectly complementing the game’s setting and atmosphere.

Its overly linear quest design, repetitive combat, and underwhelming story make it feel somewhat forgettable, despite its original premise.

7.5 / 10.0 - Dead End City
Mar 1, 2024

The idea of car combat in a Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic world is, as far as I can recall, something the genre has rarely explored. It’s great to see developers embracing concepts that combine original ideas with well-established gameplay mechanics.

6 / 10.0 - Slave Zero X
Feb 23, 2024

The game had potential, but Poppy should have spent more time refining the core experience to make it more balanced and give players a better chance to fully take advantage of its complex beat ’em up-style combat system.

Taking down a Titan by blowing its head off with a missile is one of the most satisfying things you’ll ever do in a video game, I can assure you.

It bored me with its endless, unnecessary dialogue, tired stereotypes, and a story that frankly failed to capture my interest. The combat, clearly the game’s strongest aspect, felt as though it was trying too hard to introduce unnecessary complexity.

This change of direction, particularly toward a much more linear and restrictive genre, did the series absolutely no favors. I genuinely struggle to understand the reasoning behind this decision, as well as the game’s brevity and lack of challenge.
