It may be a largely by-the-numbers JRPG, but man, they're some good numbers. Simply converting it to Switch 2 is impressive enough, but maintaining the depth of character and gameplay means it is a must for genre fans who haven't experienced it already.
The Zooseum DLC is an excellent addition to the base Two Point Museum game. The same silly fun with some excellent new mechanical additions; it’s a great reason to pick up Two Point Museum again and dive back in.
Mario Tennis Fever leans into chaotic, wacky multiplayer action rather than the core tennis gameplay its predecessors majored in. Is this a great Mario Sports game? Yes. Is this a great tennis game? Not really. But that's ok, as it’s still a good time in single player and, more importantly, long-term, online.
If you’re thinking about jumping back in with the new update and will be playing in docked mode, the 4k graphics will make the upgrade pack worthwhile, and if you’re into the designing and decorating, the mouse controls will similarly be worth it. Ultimately Animal Crossing: New Horizons remains a great game, and while the Switch 2 edition adds some nice features, there’s nothing essential in it that will stop you from fully enjoying the base game without upgrading.
Two Point Museum is a great game and probably the best of the Two Point series to date. Its variety, sense of humour and fine-tuned management sim gameplay would usually mean a higher score here, but the performance issues, particularly in handheld mode, mean it will need a patch or two before a wholehearted recommendation.
Super World War is a good, but not great, turn-based strategy game. It ticks all the gameplay boxes and covers it all in an amusingly silly layer, but some rough edges and repetitive gameplay hold it back. Fans of this specific genre will have fun, but others may wish to find better examples.
Already a stone-cold classic of the genre, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is now the definitive version of Final Fantasy Tactics. The quality of life improvements and modernisations make it accessible for modern-day newcomers while not compromising the deep, tactical gameplay the series is known for. A loving and reverential remaster, fans of the original won’t find much new, but it’s better to play than ever.
Strange Antiquities will delight fans of puzzles and dark, cosy games alike. The puzzles are challenging and varied, and you will certainly enjoy your time as shopkeeper. Some eventual repetition and lack of agency on your part does, however, mean it is probably best enjoyed in bite-sized sessions.
A delightful, if short and simple, adventure, you will not regret your time with the calicorns. Unfortunately, the graphics on the Switch can't quite match the majesty of the soundtrack, so you may be better placed playing Herdling elsewhere.
Drag X Drive is fun enough to play for a 30-minute burst but ultimately lacks depth in its gameplay and content. It’s an excellent advert for the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons and also for game chat if you can round up the friends, but it is unlikely to become the go-to online multiplayer experience. While it should be applauded for trying something different, this feels destined to be remembered as ‘one of those Nintendo things’ when we look back at the Switch 2.
Ritual of Raven is a cute, sweet, characterful farming sim with a novel twist on the traditional farming mechanics of the genre. Outside of the story and developing and optimising your farm, there is limited depth to the rest of the game, but it’s still enough to make this something fans of the genre should take a look at.
The Wandering Village is a good-but-not-great city-builder, helped by being on the back of a giant creature. The presence of Onbu adds some interest and excitement to the proceedings and makes it a worthwhile time for genre fans. However, with a cramped UI, fiddly controls and a slow pace, you will find better games of its type elsewhere on the Switch.
Patapon 1+2 Replay is a really interesting game wrapped in a joyously ridiculous package. Those who enjoyed it in its original release won’t find much extra here, but remastered visuals and quality-of-life enhancements mean this is the best place for newcomers to have a blast chanting with their Patapon pals. Pata Pata Pata Pon!
