While Darkest Dungeon II is a fantastic game at its core, everytime I sat down to play it, I kept catching myself thinking "Boy, I wish I was playing the other Darkest Dungeon”. There's nothing really wrong with the game (outside of the freezing problem, which could be fixed by the time this comes out); it's just that its change of direction into a more Slay The Spire roguelike style didn’t really sit well with me. But that's ok, as stated prior, Red Hook Studios didn’t want this to replace the original and I think they’ve succeeded in that; they just now have to deal with a divided fanbase.

South Park: Snow Day! is a miserable disappointment of a game; it is by far the WORST game I’ve reviewed here in my time at Switchaboo. I’d rather play the infamously terrible South Park first person shooter on the Nintendo 64 because at least that game was short.

Dungeon Drafters is a decent game, but I can’t deny that I thoroughly enjoyed its limited Steam Next Fest demo more than its full release. I was expecting it to expand on what we saw in said demo, but instead, it focused on stuff that wasn’t in it.

It’s no surprise that Penny’s Big Breakaway is a modern-day masterpiece in the platforming genre, you can really tell that the development team has a true passion for momentum-style platformers. In short, Penny’s Big Breakaway sticks the landing and finishes with a flourish.

While 8-Colors Star Guardians + is a good game, it is severely held back by its lack of overall gameplay, leaving it feeling pretty forgettable. And as if to prove my own point, I completely forgot I needed to write this review, so I’m hastily writing it the day before it is meant to be submitted…oops.

Writing that score hurt me inside. I should not have this many negative things to say about a Persona game. I know I shouldn’t expect the heights of quality on these spin off/sequels, I’ve played most of the games in this franchise so I know what to expect, but I didn’t expect this. In short, Persona 5 Tactica is a subpar Persona game and barely a tactical shooter. I only recommend it to the most hardcore Persona fans but let’s face it, they’ll likely just watch someone stream it instead. Psst, I’m streaming the game myself over at twitch.tv/jaxek15, come in and tell me my opinion is wrong ;)

WORLD OF HORROR is a fantastic game but an absolute nightmare on the Switch (badum-tish), its aesthetics do a lot of the heavy lifting. While I do not recommend playing WORLD OF HORROR on Nintendo Switch (or other consoles in general assuming they have the same problems), if you can, I’d highly suggest trying the game out on PC only.

This right here is what I wanted the original Hot Wheels Unleashed to be. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 - Turbocharged is exactly what a sequel needs to be; it builds on what people enjoyed in the first game while removing the stuff that people didn’t like. I’m very glad I stuck around to see this franchise improve for the better.

6 / 10 - WrestleQuest
Sep 28, 2023

WrestleQuest is a game that I adore but I ended up getting more and more disappointed in it the further I got into the game. It's an idea I love but unfortunately, it mishandled some of its ideas in ways I was not expecting. Ultimately, it is a great game but WrestleQuest ends up dropping the ball on some very obvious concepts.

As a long time Etrian Odyssey fan, it feels good to see that the franchise can flourish outside of the consoles they were initially designed for. Yes, some of the franchise's older issues do show up again, but it’s more than worth having to deal with to play a fantastic collection of games we didn’t expect to ever see again. Here's hoping the success of this collection leads to new entries in the Etrian Odyssey franchise.

While Front Mission 1st: Remake is a fun game, it shows its age. I do recommend picking this game up if you’re a fan of tactical RPGs or mecha but personally, I’m hoping they’ll improve upon this formula in the announced remakes of Front Mission 2 and 3.

6 / 10 - God of Rock
Apr 18, 2023

While I adore the idea of God of Rock, in execution, it feels a little clunky. Don’t get me wrong, I had a lot of fun playing and ultimately came out with a positive experience, and I can definitely see the passion behind the game’s development. I just feel like it needs a bit more revision with its user interface and general gameplay, make all the relevant information around the note highway and cut it down from a four button highway to three.
