The beautiful gothic fairytale Dokuro is a great looking game with some creative mechanics. However, its gimmick and source of its creativity is simply not as good on PC as it is on a device with a touch screen. This can be forgiven due to the beautifully dark journey players are taken on in the quest to save princess Dokuro from the Dark Lord. If looking for a escort puzzle-platformer, Dokuro is one of the top contenders in this category, but it is recommended getting it for the PS Vita instead, unless owning a touch screen PC, since drawing is one of the biggest…draws.
Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate offers the most complete experience in the series to date. Playing it is like coming home after a long holiday to find that someone has sold the house and bought a mansion with the money. Capcom's latest has all the best elements that the series has offered up to this date, mixed in with new and interesting features, proving the development team still has what it takes to make great games. With all that said, though, it is not without some flaws. For newcomers to the series, for instance, a steep learning curve filled with difficulty spikes awaits and while it is better than in previous entries with regards to this, it is something that might very well turn off a lot of new players. It is important to understand that Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate is not a game for everyone - far from it - but for those who it is aimed at, it might very well be one of the best games ever made. If Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate sounds appealing, then welcome aboard! Hundreds (or thousands!) of hours of monster slaying and a big online community await. A newcomer bonus is that all of the 98 monsters, 75 of which are boss battles within, will be entirely new experiences.
Do not get this score wrong, Frenchy Bird is one of the worst games out there. It has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It seems to have passed the developer's head, by a distance that has to be measured in light years to get a graspable number, that Flappy Bird was by no means made to be taken as a serious game. However, without that comedic aspect, Frenchy Bird just becomes a fool, and the worst thing with the fool is that it is painfully obvious to everyone but themselves that they are indeed a fool. However, those stamps make it impossible to simply give the game a score of one. Frenchy Bird could, however, become so much better if a patch was added that introduced a cheat code to just unlock the stamps from the off, making it into a way more tempting €1.99 four stamps pack.
While a wonderful game, sadly Splice may not actually get the chance to prove itself to anyone outside of its niche audience due to the high initial investment of trying to figure out exactly what to do, why, and what results it leads to. With that said, for its intended fan base, and to those who will like it and make it past the initial barrier of figuring the game out, Splice will be a fantastic, creative and brain-teasing experience that is well worth the time and money.
Tengami offers a great visual experience that is truly worth experiencing. Its graphical style and how it entwines into the gameplay elements is truly and unquestionably of high artistic value and something that has to be experienced to be understood. Nyamyam's Tengami creates a very meditative atmosphere, in a beautiful way, that is truly a wonder to experience. While it is short and some puzzles towards the end might be a little annoying, overall it is a very fun and fluid experience well worth attention if looking for a beautiful puzzle title.
A potentially great game hindered by severe issues. Warhammer Quest is still a very fun and promising game…when it works. Sadly, too often it doesn't. The gameplay is great and the classes are fun and varied, but that does not help much when the game can freeze up at any point. Forgiveness is given due to the very generous auto saving that prevents this from completely destroying things, but after resetting Warhammer Quest for the 10th time in a very short period due to weird bugs, it does get very annoying.
Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed is not anything other than a decent game that offers nothing special beside otaku jokes and a fast visit to the Mecca of Japanese pop culture. The game could have performed so much better if the fighting system was more fun and the story did not rush through important parts. As it does do that, though, a higher score cannot be given. For any otaku out there, this is a title worth getting for its comical value and the great spot on jokes. For anyone else, however, this is a title to avoid.
Tales of Hearts R is a wonderful and well crafted J-RPG, and is the perfect pick up for those that love the Tales franchise that has been out of reach for Western audiences for far too long. It delivers a deep and meaningful story, wrapped up in a great package. The only issue is that the story at the beginning is too slow paced for newcomers to the series, which sadly may turn them off before the core of the story kicks in. Overall, though, this is a very high quality game that cannot be recommended enough to those looking for a strong J-RPG to sink their teeth into.
The Marvellous Miss Take on PC turns out to be a game that is a lot better than might first be expected. With its varied characters and a great level design that does a good job of supporting the random element of the guards' movement, and use of three widely different characters, it shines brightly, and is a refreshing release in the genre. Well worth a go for fans of stealth games.
If players are seeking a big and deep adventure that is truly theirs and that they can share with their friends, then Terraria is the game for them. Terraria offers hours upon hours of content for gamers of any taste. Casual and hardcore, competitive and social; everyone will find something to enjoy. Few will, however, enjoy the whole package, but that is fine. This is a game where players themselves decide how it should be played. After the initial barrier of learning the game, a big world opens up and an unending adventure starts.
Fenix Rage is the game that people dream about when they say games today need to be more difficult. This is a title that offers everything that was great about classic '80s games, filtering out a lot of the bad, and is one that Cubed3 can recommend to any gamer looking for a modern Nintendo Hard experience.
