Andrew Stretch's Reviews

I am a Senior Writer for TechRaptor and I have a passion for most things Video Games and Technology. I picked up my first video games before the age of two and it has been difficult to keep me away from them since then. Nowadays I mostly play games on the Xbox One but have also been known to hop across to the PlayStation 4.
5 / 10.0 - Exit the Gungeon
Mar 27, 2020

While it certainly is a new game in the "Gungeon" series, Exit the Gungeon lacks the uniqueness that procedural generation can give a game. If you're a big fan of the original then chances are you'll still very much enjoy this title, with such a small and repetitive gameplay loop though others might find the game lacking.

Play through the lives of Deku and other UA High students. While the combat isn't exceptionally deep the attacks are flashy and characters are all distinct from one another. Fans of My Hero Academia will get a kick out of the story and mission mode any other arena fighter fans might want to investigate more before a purchase.

One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows throws players into a world of heroes. While the game looks flashy with big attacks and heavy cosmetic customization, the framework that this game is built on is pretty sparse. If you want a fighting game this is dime a dozen, though fans might get a tickle out of hurdles made to make Saitama 'balanced.'

While there are a few fun games to be played in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 the majority of the games will disappoint. 8-Bit mode is a nice touch but doesn't add much to the overall package. While for some it could be an enjoyable experience many players will be happier giving this a pass. Maybe 4 more years will be good for it.

The Jackbox Party Pack 6 comes in with some great games, and a few really forgettable ones. Push the Button does well as a complete departure from the traditional Jackbox Style and Trivia Murder Party 2 and Role Models are a great laugh for a party.

Link's Awakening takes everything excellent about the original release and adds a fantastic shine to it. This already might have been one of the best Zelda titles to date, and it's only improved here.

4 / 10.0 - Vicious Circle
Aug 16, 2019

Vicious Circle at its core has a really great concept. In execution though what was delivered was an unbalanced feature-lite multiplayer experience that will likely struggle to keep players returning.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order lets players hop into a galactic battle against Thanos. For a Marvel fan who enjoys RPG mechanics this is a fun buy, especially with others to play with. Some spotty online moments but well worth the fun.

4.5 / 10.0 - KILL la KILL - IF
Jul 26, 2019

Kill La Kill IF wants to show off all that was great about the 2013 anime, but between a muddled story mode, small character roster, and questionable mechanics, it doesn't quite stick the landing.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a fun and complex kart racer. Boasting mechanics that are now genre standards, CTR's return shows just how relevant it still is. With additional features to fit into modern times like difficulty settings and graphics, this is a must-have for fans of the original, and for anyone who enjoys kart racing with friends.

Team Sonic Racing uses an interesting team mechanic to shake up what is otherwise a pretty average arcade racing title. If you're really into the genre or have two dedicated friends to play with it might be a fun experience but you aren't going to get anything here you don't already have from somewhere else.

Zanki Zero takes the dark and compelling storytelling of Lancarse' Danganronpa and successfully applies it to a new genre. Mixing together heavy simulation elements with a deep narrative and first-person dungeon crawling this might not be the game for anyone but if you're in for a wild adventure this might be your cup of tea.

2 / 10.0 - JUMP FORCE
Feb 22, 2019

Jump Force brings together some of Mangas biggest and best characters and instead of making you feel powerful leaves you fighting bad gameplay, an aggravating plot, and your own patience. Even big Shonen Jump fans may want to avoid this one...

Genesis: Alpha One is a great roguelike for those looking for long methodical sessions. The in-depth simulation shows off great care from the developer but quickly becomes tedious as you try to meet everything's limited conditions at once.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is just as the name suggests, the Ultimate Smash experience. All the characters and stages have returned. A better balance across all 74 playable characters. Returning single player game modes as well as a whole new story mode that merges Super Smash with RPG elements. This is a game that you'll want to play with friends on the big screen, or on your own anywhere.

The Missing: J. J. Macfield and the Island of Memories has beautiful landscapes, ok gameplay, and a story that misses the mark. If you're wanting a short puzzle platformer it might be worth playing through but for the majority it's an avoidable experience.

Earth Defense Force 5 takes what the previous games in the series were known for; Classes with huge customization, large-scale battles, and a story about mankind defeating enemy forces. 8 / 10.0 - Timespinner
Nov 5, 2018

Timespinner is a fantastic example of an excellent Metroidvania that mixes great character upgrades, a fun and diverse overworld, and a beautiful 16-bit look. The story not only combines the personal tragedy of a chosen one but adds grey to what's normally a black and white debate.
