Spencer Legacy's Reviews

I'm a Canadian Editor who plays video games like they're going out of style. My favourite genres are RPGs, Adventure Games, Fighting Games, and Platformers.

Contra: Rogue Corps is a fun but flawed twin-stick shooter that feels more than a bit rushed. Its visuals are mixed and it reuses its levels in a frustrating manner, but the core gameplay and customization can be quite fun from time to time.

As fun as it can be on occasion, Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain is too flawed for me to fully enjoy. The heaps of technical issues and unbalanced and repetitive missions, combined with a fairly dysfunctional online mode, make Iron Rain an unfortunately bland mess.

There are some novel ideas present in Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker. Unfortunately, these ideas are either clumsily executed or too surrounded by unpolished design issues to truly shine.

2.5 / 5.0 - MXGP Pro

MXGP Pro looks nice and has better tutorials and handling than its predecessors, but its consistent glitches and slow load times keep it from being anything more than “alright”.

2.5 / 5.0 - New Gundam Breaker
Jul 2, 2018

New Gundam Breaker could be great, but its numerous technical issues and boring, cliché story make it a difficult game to recommend to any but the most devout Gundam fans.

There’s a lot of potential in Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time, the vast majority of which goes tragically unused. Though Chamber of Time looks and sounds gorgeous, the shallow gameplay, repetitive and needlessly complex missions, and framerate drops make it difficult to recommend to anyone who isn’t a diehard fan of the anime.

Episode Prompto had so much potential in its character interactions and intriguing story, but the incredibly poor gameplay and empty time-padding makes this Episode a boring and sometimes borderline broken slog.

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is a solid option if you want to relive some single-player nostalgia but outside of console availability, you can do this for less money already on PC.

Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash is an overall disappointing fighter that doesn’t quite live up to the franchise it’s adapting. There are kernels of exciting ideas scattered throughout, but there are a few too many problems to raise it above a pretty average experience – even for Jujutsu Kaisen megafans.

3 / 5.0 - Air Twister
Nov 7, 2023

Air Twister is a peculiar game that can be intriguing and fun despite its flaws. It’s neat to see Yu Suzuki go back to the success of Space Harrier all these years later, though the price may be a bit steep for those who aren’t arcade enthusiasts.

Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai could appeal to diehard fans of the anime, but its repetitive nature keeps it from being great. The game looks remarkably like the anime and the Temple of Recollection can be quite fun, but anyone who doesn’t love The Adventure of Dai can pass on this one.

The Callisto Protocol has potential, but its strange melee combat, average story, and average gunplay keep it from standing out in any way. It looks great and has fun moments, but the majority of my time with The Callisto Protocol wasn’t especially memorable.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are so, so close to reinventing the Pokémon series in a brilliant way. They’re just held back by unacceptable bugs and performance issues that simply shouldn’t be happening this frequently in such a monolithic and profitable franchise. I hope Game Freak is able to implement some much-needed patches, as there’s a remarkable diamond in this copious rough.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a very peculiar game that pulls off its concept but is held back by jank and ruthless microtransactions. With some changes (likely to a free-to-play model) and additional polish, The Breakers could be the dark horse asymmetrical multiplayer game. Until then, though, it’s just a fun but flawed game for Dragon Ball megafans.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is pretty okay, as it’s an adequate port of the less great but still fun version of this title. The visuals aren’t very good and the gameplay can be janky, but there’s fun to be had for Star Wars fans without access to the PS3/360 version of the game.

I’m glad that Monster Rancher 1&2 DX came out because it gives curious players and myself a chance to check out a cult-classic monster series.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has the potential to be great, it just doesn’t quite reach that level. What’s there is pretty good, but the lack of polish and small amount of content makes All-Star Brawl fall short of the excellent party fighter that it could be. Hopefully, the devs continue to support the game and polish it as time goes on, as it could be a diamond in the rough given a bit more time in the oven.
