Marco Cocomello's Reviews
Super Mario Bros. Wonder takes simplicity and turns it into pure joy. It is Nintendo’s masterful level design at its finest. The game’s Wonder Seed system also delivers charming gameplay sections we have yet to see from the series to date. It is simply wonderful.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has refined its combat and cleaned up its sandbox gameplay for a focused experience full of incredible blockbuster set pieces and superhero greatness.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage successfully takes players back to the earlier days of the series but that also means it comes with all the good and the bad. The game in no way reinvents the wheel and in fact, is a bit dated to that degree but it captures the magic that made the series so great in the first place.
Pikmin 4 may start out slow but it slowly blossoms into a wonderful game which is leaps and bounds above the previous entries. There’s just pure joy to experience here and I hope people finally take the series seriously because this game is superb.
Street Fighter 6 could be the best fighting game I have played in a very long time. I am no master at these games and I don’t run out to buy them at launch. However, the game is very fun to play and its real draw for me was its accessibility. I felt good at it even though I really wasn’t. Of course, this is also completely optional too so if you’re a veteran, you’ll enjoy this just as much as noob.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the ceremonious journey of the decade. Its awe-inspiring open world doubles up as a playground of fun thanks to a unique building system that brilliantly ties into every aspect of the game. There’s magic here – it is an unforgettable tale.
Dead Island 2 is the best way to smash zombies but the game’s shallow mechanics and short story feel like a let down after 10 years of waiting.
Hogwarts Legacy is a remarkable achievement. It is filled with an incredible amount of love and passion. All of which delivers a true love letter to fans. There's simply nothing else like it and we'll be talking about this magical experience for years to come.
Fire Emblem Engage is one of the best games in the series. The large character roster, changes to the combat system and the exciting Engage system all help create an enjoyable time across a game that looks absolutely stunning.
Evil West slowly falls to pieces in its 13-hour campaign due to its weak story, horrid writing and shoddy visuals. The only thing left standing is the combat and even that gets repetitive and shallow after a while.
Some ideas might not work and there are some obvious visual issues to overcome but there’s never been a grander, more exciting Pokemon adventure.
God of War Ragnarok is almost perfect in every aspect but sadly its pacing is inconsistent. Often its story gets thrown to the side in favour of hours of exploration and its last act is horribly rushed. However, it is incredible in every other aspect.
Bayonetta 3 has managed to take the series’ greatest aspects and evolve them in new and exciting ways. It is undoubtedly the best entry to date and a damn good time.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope evolves in many ways. It breaks out of its XCOM box by delivering addictive combat, fun exploration and a magical story.
Splatoon 3 is Nintendo’s safest sequel. There’s nothing much new here on offer but the added weapons, modes, abilities and customization might be enough to make this your next buy. Just don’t expect anything to feel any different.
As expected, The Last of Us Part I is a full remake of the original game and doesn’t bring anything drastically new to the table. It is absolutely gorgeous to look at and showcases the power of the PS5 which feeds into the game's superb narrative.
Saints Row is an incredibly fun game. The bugs often get in the way but underneath there’s an enjoyable sandbox experience here where you can truly be your own boss.
Tango Gameworks crafted an exceptional horror action game in Ghostwire: Tokyo with some incredible combat and thrillingly dark story even if the world is less than impressive at times.
Gran Turismo 7 celebrates car culture in the best way with its superb racing, a large selection of cars and fantastic emphasis on car manufacturers.
Horizon Forbidden West is an exceptional game. It expands on Zero Dawn in every possible way while also delivering some of the best interactions I have ever seen in an open-world game. Its world is breathtaking, the people are memorable and the gameplay is industry-defining.
