Khurram Imtiaz's Reviews
Unravel 2 has managed to outshine its predecessor in every way. It is a great co-op platformer that is smart, charming and challenging at times with a terrific central theme to tie it all together.
The fast pace of the puzzle based combat and the fun progression system makes Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido a guilty pleasure for the Nintendo Switch. Don’t sleep on this gem even if you hate puzzle games.
Onrush is an exciting new direction and a refreshing change of pace for a racing game that is built on top of teamwork. It has some great competitive modes and a promising multiplayer support, but the lack of gameplay variety can affect its long-term appeal.
Dark Souls Remastered brings the much needed 60 FPS experience back to the series. This is an essential remaster that was long needed and it manages to tick all the right boxes.
A solid anniversary collection featuring some of the most memorable Street Fighter games. The focus on making it a complete arcade perfect experience also ends up being its biggest drawback.
One Piece Pirates Warriors 3 is a top-tier Musou game that fans of the series can finally enjoy on the Nintendo Switch. This is the definitive way to play the game without any major drawbacks that can be typically associated with a quick port.
The weak combat and underwhelming RPG elements are the biggest hurdle in enjoying Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time despite offering strong visuals and a fun world to explore.
Dragon's Crown Pro is still a great game and it holds up well even on the current generation consoles thanks in part to the 4K upgrade, but the lack of new gameplay features makes it feel like a rather lackluster re-release. If you have played the original game already, there is honestly no need to get this one, but if you are a fan of Vanillaware, this is an easy recommendation.
God of War is a more grounded and personal journey for Kratos. The game excels at world building, combat and exploration but suffers from some flaws with its lack of enemy variety and pacing near the end-game.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole feels just like an animated feature from the TV series with the same lewd jokes, satirical social commentary along with an improved combat and exploration system. [OpenCritic note: Khurram Imtiaz separately reviewed the PS4 (9) and Switch (8) versions. Their scores have been averaged.]
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy is a pretty good port of the first 3 games in the series for the Nintendo Switch. It might not be the complete series since it lacks Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, but the quality of the port is great and it utilizes the hardware of Nintendo Switch rather well to offer a fun Ninja action experience on the go.
Penny-Punching Princess is a simple brawler with a unique economy system thrown in the mix. There are some flaws with its level design and the repetitive nature of its gameplay loop is not for everyone, but it is still a good fit for a portable system where it works best when played in short bursts.
A poignant tale that tackles a sensitive subject matter. Celeste is not only a challenging platformer, it is also an emotionally powerful story about dealing with the struggles of mental illness.
Far Cry series has finally made its return after a long wait, and it's a bigger and more ambitious attempt on the same old classic Far Cry formula that the fans have grown to love across the numerous games.
A Way Out is a solid interactive adventure that never overstays its welcome. It is a little short on replay value and lacks content but if we consider the launch price, there is not much to complain here. If you enjoy co-op games, there is no better recommendation than A Way Out.
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom is essentially a complete reboot offering a clean slate. The new Kingdom Builder mechanic is extremely addicting and even though the combat has its flaws, the visuals and the beautiful soundtrack make it one of the most enticing RPG released by Level 5 so far.
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is a good example of how to handle a series with multiple sequels. It builds on its strength to offer a satisfying conclusion to the story of Kazuma Kiryu.
A classic trilogy of games featuring the titular hero Dante, which is now available to play with its warts and all on the current generation consoles and PC.
Final Fantasy XV Royal Pack expansion feels like a significant addition to the main game by improving its end game content, but it comes at the expense of alienating a major portion of its audience who now have to pay for it in order to get the same experience as the newcomers with Royal Edition.
This feels like a passion project that is extremely polished. It might not offer much replay value but as a brief experience, it is worth its asking price.
