Ninja Smasher intends to bring back the spirit of 8-bit platformers and it certainly mastered its conventions: the plot is minimal as the player sets off through a maze-like map, with a difficulty curve that is very well adjusted to the player's own development as more items and techniques become available.

Mario Party: Star Rush displays the series' evolution within its standards. Adding a needed innovation in the form of free movement across the game boards, the latest installment of Mario Party brings its usual mix of multiplayer frenzy and competition for coins and stars. As before, this is not the most indicated game for those who stick with mostly solo experiences but anyone with a group of friends will not come out disappointed.

2 / 10 - Dragon Skills
Oct 16, 2016

Dragon Skills has a simple and accessible concept which seems appealing to the retro-minded players but it's also plagued by problems which turn it into a difficult experience. If the decision to use the GamePad vertically is hard to understand, merciless difficulty progression and lack of fluidity don't make anything better.

Skylanders Imaginators pursues the legacy of its predecessors and is a fun, simple and visually rich action-platformer that makes use of action figures to interact in the game. It could have been more generous, given how much of its contents require owning all the figures, which will weigh heavily on the players' budgets, but the game also allows some margin to finish its main plot without the need to overspend.

Disney Magical World 2 follows the footsteps of its predecessor and plunges the payers into the Disney universe, where many familiar characters and locations await. It displays a healthy variety of landscapes and NPCs and a matching audiovisual environment but while the youngest crowd will certainly enjoy this game, it feels too repetitive and too much alike its predecessor, with little variety to set it apart from the original.

4 / 10 - Soul Axiom
Dec 30, 2016

Soul Axiom's psychedelic first-person platforming features some interesting puzzles which could be much more enjoyable, if the game's level design was more interesting and its gameplay mechanics more immersive. The lack of creativity elsewhere prevents the game's puzzles from keeping the players' interest for very long, which shows Soul Axiom could be a better game if more care had been given to it.

The quality of the puzzles, along with their fine-tuned difficulty curve that make them easy to learn but challenging to master will bring a welcome addition to the games collection of any player who enjoys a good stimulation of their mental skills in the form of image-unveiling puzzles.

6 / 10 - Picross e7
Mar 6, 2017

Picross puzzles can potentially go on and on over the years without getting old and Picross e7 shows just that. It might now tread a new path when compared to its very similar predecessor but it offers plenty of new puzzles that will keep the series' veterans satisfied, while welcoming newcomers with its progressive difficulty settings. Proving that there's no end in sight for the Picross series and that anyone can get started at any moment, Picross e7 deserves some attention by both longtime fans and beginners alike.

6 / 10 - Voez
Mar 13, 2017

Being a rhythm game that makes full use of the Nintendo Switch touchscreen, Voez will push the players into achieving lightning-fast reflections in order to clear all the songs in the fastest tempos. While fans of rhythm and music games will find this enticing, other players will start noticing a feeling of repetitiveness and a certain lack of an ergonomic capacity to accommodate long gaming sessions which may stand in the way of enjoying Voez more thoroughly.

The Escapists 2 brings a demanding, free-roaming sandbox gameplay to the Nintendo Switch. With varied maps and almost complete freedom to wander around, the game also features a very high difficulty level and is certain to strike an impact with fans of the style, even if those looking for a more action-oriented experience will come out a bit frustrated.

6 / 10 - Furi
Jan 22, 2018

Furi brings to the Nintendo Switch what seems to be a mix between a hack 'n' slash and a twin-stick shooter. It's a solid effort, thanks to its good gameplay, as well as to a well-designed visual interface. It falls short on its lifespan, however, as it feels too short for its own good and the difficulty level can often become frustrating.

The puzzles are interesting and the game features an art style that looks good in the player's eyes, while at the same time its lifespan feels too short and has nothing to offer beyond the main objectives.

Tachyon Project features an enjoyable, fluid gameplay that despite not bringing anything new, will still please 2D twin-stick shoot'em up fans. Not all is glorious, though, and Tachyon Project has a very frustrating difficulty level - too frustrating for its own good - and its levels end up looking a lot like each other, which ends up harming this game more than it should.

4 / 10 - Mad Carnage
Mar 12, 2018

Mad Carnage is a tactical action game in a cartoonish visual style which can be entertaining for a while but quickly starts feeling repetitive as it is way too similar to other proposals in the same genre. Its gameplay mechanics feel too simplistic and there's an overall lack of variety that ends up harming what could have been a more enjoyable and refined experience.

While Poisoft Thud Card is a simple, easy to grasp and clean-looking card game, its simplicity quickly becomes synonymous with emptiness and boredom. The game gets dull quite quickly and all the fun it could provide to the players runs out in a matter of minutes, making this a game that would not be recommended for most players looking for a good time.

Outlast: Bundle of Terror is a marvelous contribution to the Nintendo Switch catalog which represents a very welcome addition in the field of horror games with its well-crafted atmosphere and plot. The game is simple and the action may be limited but the overall quality sets it very much above the average and players will easily spend many hours in its horror-filled environment.

Layers of Fear Legacy is a rather interesting horror-themed adventure that features some appealing puzzles and mostly, a visual environment that accurately portrays what the game wants to transmit. In the end, it doesn't fully immerse the player in its horror theme, which means it falls a few notches below the threshold it should reach, not to mention that it starts losing charm after some time.

6 / 10 - Outlast II
May 3, 2018

Outlast 2 brings another horror-themed game to the Nintendo Switch catalog and while its ambiance, soundscape and plot are definitely worth checking out, the game doesn't quite rise above its predecessor in terms of overall quality. This is not to say Outlast 2 is not worthy of consideration, as its contribution to the Nintendo Switch is most definitely welcome but it's inevitable to compare it to the original and to think that it doesn't quite achieve its level.

Animated Jigsaw: Beautiful Japanese Scenery features some interesting puzzle challenges...and that's about it. This experience is short and while competent, it brings nothing that does not exist already in other forms. To make things more difficult, moving the pieces around can turn into a frustrating experience, which is not something that should happen in a game where moving the pieces is the main action.
