Fabulous figurines and expanded creation tools make Disney Infinity 2.0 a sensational if inconsistent toybox. We'll probably have to wait until 3.0 for the playsets and core gameplay mechanics it deserves, but a little imagination can go a long way here.

Heavy Bullets is a devastatingly elegant fusion of slippery twitch shooting, procedural exploration and gradual progression without an ounce of unnecessary fat. The rock-solid experience can plateau after a few hours of dying and delving, but you'll definitely get your money's worth first.

Compile Heart have yet to create a truly superior JRPG, but Fairy Fencer F feels like a huge step in the right direction. Lazy level design and primitive visuals bring down the package, but the quirky dialogue, interesting overarching storyline, unique gameplay systems and superb combat make for a worthwhile romp for genre fans.

I absolutely adore Warframe despite its rough edges and questionable economy. Since 'grind' is just another word for 'annihilating hordes of foes as an awesome space ninja,' featuring plentiful surprises, addictive progression, strong co-op, overlapping gameplay systems and gorgeous art design, I can forgive any number of niggling flaws.

Hatoful Boyfriend may be a bonkers twist on the traditional Japanese dating sim, but its surreal 'boys are birds' premise is more than just a gimmick. Courting your potential feathered suitors is rewarding and frequently hilarious, while eventually unravelling the story's darker elements bring the real heft and value to the experience.

Runers' deep character creation and excellent spellcrafting makes its sub-par shooting gameplay feel fresh and exciting... at least for long enough to get your money's worth. Approach in bite-sized chunks, and be sure to try the demo.

As ridiculously deep and deeply ridiculous as ever, Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited makes the 2011 original feel like a brand new game and a superb value package.

I hope that Gravity Badgers isn't trademarked, because it deserves a better game.

So Many Me is the very best kind of 'clone.' Accessible and innovative mechanics, coupled with a lovably cheeky personality and satisfying puzzles, give you so many reasons to get involved if you enjoy the genre.

The Wolf Among Us ends on a high: a masterful conclusion that delivers massive revelations, ties up loose ends and even delivers some profoundly satisfying catharsis without losing touch with Willingham's bittersweet gritty universe. Most of the choices we've feel impactful and important, whether big or small, while Cry Wolf saves some of its biggest for last. "Dealspwn will remember that." Bring on Season 2.

Guacamelee! is the Big Enchilada when it comes to MetroidVania platformers, and the Super Turbo Championship Edition is very much the ultimate version. Though  riotous fun factor and eyepopping Mexican flair sometimes disguises a few unimaginative challenges, its personality and satisfying gameplay will lock you in for the duration.

Concursion's genre-hopping Big Idea is magnificent, but each of its disparate gameplay styles falls apart in the execution on a mechanical and visual level. Definitely worth trying if you're curious to see how innovative indie developers are pushing boundaries, but difficult to recommend as an £8.99 videogame.

Munin may be savagely difficult, but punishment gluttons will be raven about this carefully-constructed puzzle platformer for some time. Sadly, it's also savagely difficult to recommend spending £6.99 on a game that will cost less than £2 on mobile devices very soon.

One Piece: Unlimited World Red is easily one of the best anime tie-ins ever developed. Fantastic fan service, satisfying combat, deep town creation and crafting, dozens of hours of content and exquisite visuals make for a compelling lengthy experience that's more Grand Line than Grind Lane.

An intense, aggressive and addictive twinstick shooter. Like fast food, it's tasty, cheap and somewhat recycled, though a deceptive layer of on-the-fly tactics elevates Sixty Second Shooter Prime above its generic genre trappings.

Nether had potential to add compelling cooperative and social features to the DayZ survival experience, but ends up half-baked in almost every way. Released far too soon and crying out for several more months of development, it's hard to recommend this glitchy cut-throat package.
