Bryan Ertmer's Reviews

Raised in a small town in Colorado, I was always looking to escape into a different world. Through books, movies, dungeons and dragons, I quickly found myself intrigued by the idea of fantasy worlds. This lead into a deep love to video games. I also loved writing and putting them together became the only smart way to use my talents. Working with Gaming Trend for the past couple years and going to review events has become my life. I love reviewing good and bad games simply because I love being taken to another world and experiencing ideas and stories that people have put so much love, time, and passion into.

The Sims 4 Seasons is quite frankly the best expansion to come out yet. There are tons of new items, but what sets it apart are the ways it changes the game. It adds so many new activities and things to do and wonderful holidays, it honestly made me feel like this is the first must have expansion for The Sims 4.

My First Pet Stuff adds basically a new critter, some hair and clothes items, and items that require Cats and Dogs. It is DLC for DLC and feels like this all could have been part of that expansion instead of its own stand alone product. I am disappointed in the lack of items, the reskins of the critters, but most importantly how they thought doing a pack that requires another expansion was a good idea. It is not worth your time, and in my opinion we should not support a practice like this and hopefully let them get back to making great packs like they were.

As a whole, The Sims 4 can be a great game to lay on your couch and sink hours into, but many things hold it back from being the great game that is is on PC. From bugs and technical problems, to a horrible control scheme, there is a great game buried beneath problems.

The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs was the expansion I was most looking forward to, and it did not let me down. With the robust creation tool, the numerous new items, and great ways to play and interact with your pets allows you to make new memories and adds a new layer of depth to the game. With the exception of the veterinary job, this expansion is full of items and great new gameplay potentials, and in my opinion is one of the greatest expansions for The Sims 4.

My biggest gripe is there is not more, and I wish this was a full-fledged expansion because I enjoyed it so much. The new abilities tree is a fantastic addition to the SIms and I loved playing as a vampire, making this my favorite game pack The Sims 4 has put out to date.

The Sims 4 City Living creates new and meaningful gameplay on the Sims formula, and is the best expansion The Sims 4 has seen to date. It has smart gameplay, new ways to interact with the world, and an amazing new setting. If living the city life sounds fun, you cannot go wrong with City Living, however if that doesn’t intrigue you, there is not much here for you.

The Sims 4 Dine Out is a great game pack that doesn’t offer a lot outside of running restaurants, but it does that extremely well and can be a great deal of fun. Don’t expect much outside of that, but the way it incorporates content from the original game and other expansions, it truly adds dimensions to business ownership, and a great new element to the game overall.

50 / 100 - Oil Enterprise
May 10, 2016

Oil Enterprise is a game that is lacking in almost all departments, and never comes to compelling gameplay. If you like watching numbers more than actually building an empire, you may enjoy this game, for everyone else it just never seems to hit the mark.

Although it has problems going against it, Gemini: Heroes Reborn has some great ideas and fun gameplay that make-up for it's shortcomings. I recommend this game, and although it falls short it is definitely worth the $14.99 price tag.

The Sims 4: Get Together utilizes the new club system to have new experiences, ways to play, and is a great social feature. Although it is a great expansion and allows for new and exciting gameplay, it fails to bring enough to the table for new players or people looking to get back to the Sims franchise.

85 / 100 - Need for Speed
Nov 2, 2015

Need for Speed is a game that gets many things right, and brings it back to the glory days of Need for Speed Underground 1 and 2. I have not had this much fun in a racing game in some time, and even though it misses a few marks, it is definitely worth the time of racing fans.

65 / 100 - Nom Nom Galaxy

Nom Nom Galaxy is a game with some fun gameplay and a unique setting, but its technical problems really hold it back. A few cups of Nom Nom soup is all it takes before it feels stale.

Lego Jurassic World is full of nostalgia for fans of the franchise, while still highlighting the new film. It is the most refined Lego game and even with its downfalls it is still full of fun and charm.

Dead Rising 3 Apocalypse Edition is simply a fun game. Its story lacks and it has its fair share of downfalls but it is all worth it due to its unforgiving and humorous gameplay. If you don't have an Xbox One, this package includes all of the DLC as well as a few new graphical bells and whistles. Dead Rising 3 is truly a game that is its best when it isn't trying, it is unapologetic and bloody, and one of the best zombie hack and slash games that has ever been released.
