Nick Gillham's Reviews

Nick is an avid video game entusiast and has been since his mum first allowed him to play on the Atari 2600 she never touched. To this day he's had the pleasure of playing on a vast array of different gaming machines. He's a recovering WoW-holic and when he's not playing games he's talking about games, reading about games, writing about games, watching videos about games, watching his son play games or chatting rubbish on Twitter. A lover, not a fighter and an all round good guy (he would say that, he wrote this after all), he's happy to be here as part of GIAG.
9 / 10.0 - Everybody's Golf
Aug 30, 2017

It may not be the purist's choice, but for pure enjoyment it cannot be beaten. Everybody's Golf is everything I wanted from the return of the series.

Not going to convert people to musou, but a nice, non-serious departure from the stewards of musou.

Easily the best game the Rabbids have ever been in and quite possibly Mario's best non-Nintendo spin-off.

A decent strategy puzzle-RPG that displays all the good bits and mitigates the bad ones, pip pip.

8 / 10.0 - Slime-san

In the absence of Meat Boy Slime-San stands unopposed, and excellent little bite of hyperactive platform action.

8 / 10.0 - Miitopia
Jul 27, 2017

Miis aren't for everyone, but Miitopia is easily the nicest and most accessible RPG ever made, and for that it deserves considerable praise.

8.5 / 10.0 - Hey! Pikmin
Jul 26, 2017

Hey! Pikmin isn't a long game but throughout it'll capture your heart just as regularly as Olimar captures Pikmin.

Infinite Minigolf sets out to do what it aims to do by giving you the tools to make the minigolf courses of your dreams, but while it's good to make, it just isn't fun to play.

Old skool gameplay with some new style twists, Mighty Gunvolt Burst is a more accessible slice of nostalgia style gaming.

In a time of games that stretch into the tens of hours, it's nice to have a game full of short gameplay bursts designed to be replayed over and over, Blowout Blast is a wonderful little distraction.

5.5 / 10.0 - Death Squared
Jul 12, 2017

If you have a bunch of friends with high tolerance levels readily available then it might be worth giving this a punt, otherwise, if you're the type that throws controllers then you may want to avoid.

Put aside any misconceptions you may have about the idea of re-selling old games in shinier coats, this is no lazy rehash and it was always a dang fine game to boot!

8 / 10.0 - GoNNER
Jul 5, 2017

Just a little bit of handholding wouldn't have gone amiss, but spend some time working out what GoNNER is about and you'll find a dark yet warm hearted bullet ballet.

8 / 10.0 - Ever Oasis

Unlike the deserts that surround your civilisation, Ever Oasis is far from barren.

It's not feature rich, but Astro Duel Deluxe is another title making excellent use of Nintendo's console vision.

Releasing Minecraft on the Switch was a real no brainer for Microsoft, the game has found a natural home and is worth yet another purchase.

An improvement on the original, but it throws in a few flaws of its own.

Probably the best way to get into the series, and the best way to bring yourself back up to speed before Kingdom hearts 3 is released.
