Nick Gillham's Reviews

Nick is an avid video game entusiast and has been since his mum first allowed him to play on the Atari 2600 she never touched. To this day he's had the pleasure of playing on a vast array of different gaming machines. He's a recovering WoW-holic and when he's not playing games he's talking about games, reading about games, writing about games, watching videos about games, watching his son play games or chatting rubbish on Twitter. A lover, not a fighter and an all round good guy (he would say that, he wrote this after all), he's happy to be here as part of GIAG.

The Football Manager series just goes from strength to strength. This is superb, sublime, and irresistible. It's not a game you play, it's a game you live.

Legion strikes a very good balance between nurturing feelings of the past, while also slaying old beasts and leaving the old world behind. It’s the biggest shake up since Cataclysm, and boy was it needed. This is everything that fans should want, granting a whole lot more stuff for them to see, do, and tinker with, while new players can launch a fresh character in at the top level and find themselves equal to all those around them.

An absolute joy, like a whippy ice-cream on a hot summer's day, it's sweet and fun and you will want more.

A marriage made in heaven, Cadence of Hyrule is a toe-tapping, monster slaying groove-fest

Dragon Quest XI S is as perfect a port as you could ask for, and makes you feel good about owning a Switch in the first place.

An emotional tour de force that has considerably upped the ante as the final episode approaches. That last episode can't come soon enough.

The finale the game deserved, cementing Life is Strange as one of the best games, and biggest surprises, of 2015.

Perfect for long time fans and new ones. This is the definitive Pokémon title (until the next one at least).

9 / 10.0 - Linelight
Feb 7, 2017

Even if you don’t play puzzle games, Linelight is a shining beacon in dark times.

9 / 10.0 - Voez
Mar 15, 2017

It’s gone under the radar a bit, but VOEZ’s place on the Switch launch line-up is highly deserved and you should give it your attention.

Put aside any misconceptions you have about strategy RPGs, Shadows of Valentia demands your time and will make you feel good for it.

Releasing Minecraft on the Switch was a real no brainer for Microsoft, the game has found a natural home and is worth yet another purchase.

9 / 10.0 - Windjammers
Sep 3, 2017

Stylish, simplistic and a whole load of fun, get some mates round and have a tournament, you'll thank me later.

9 / 10.0 - Everybody's Golf
Aug 30, 2017

It may not be the purist's choice, but for pure enjoyment it cannot be beaten. Everybody's Golf is everything I wanted from the return of the series.

9 / 10.0 - SteamWorld Dig 2
Sep 20, 2017

Dorothy and Fen's adventure is a brilliant slice of zen gaming, a treat. Image & Form have knocked the it out of the park with this sequel.

Much like Mario himself, Superstar Saga has changed in looks, but it's still every bit as good as it was back then.

Farewell is upsetting in the best of ways. A wonderful, tearful, round off of Max and Chloe's story and a fantastic appetiser for season 2.

With a combination of amazing chiptunes and retro goodness Old School Musical should be the game to convert you if you've never considered Rhythm Action before.

9 / 10.0 - Tetris 99
Jun 9, 2019

If you're after a royale-y good time you should look much farther than Tetris 99.

A delightfully whimsical steampunk-RPG romp and you'd have to be malfunctioning to miss out on it.
