8.5 / 10.0 - Sonic Origins
Jul 12, 2022

Sonic Origins, despite its turbulent release and Sega's commercial manoeuvring, is a remarkable compilation exercise that serves as an example in terms of celebrating a legacy. Its updated versions, the preservation of classic titles, the incorporation of new approaches and the inclusion of its museum are what should be the standard for compilations.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge confirms, as far as Beat 'em Ups are concerned, the good form of DotEmu. A classic exercise that knows how to bring the right novelties without betraying the most conservative canons of the genre, which is excellent in terms of gameplay, and which is crowned as one of the best videogames ever made about the Ninja Turtles. Moreover, it is just as much fun to play alone as it is with others. A sure value for fans of the genre and fans of the franchise alike.

7 / 10.0 - Souldiers
May 30, 2022

Souldiers is a remarkable metroidvania in its own right. A title that is an exercise in personality that distances it from the rest of the proposals of the style that flood the market. Above all thanks to its successful universe and the tone it manages. But it has certain design frictions (mainly related to the management of the challenge) that prevent it from going further. However, if you come to it with patience, you will enjoy its virtues.

4 / 10.0 - Dolmen
May 19, 2022

Dolmen arrives to the crowded soulslikes field with some valid ideas, but failing in the execution of each of its sections. If you're a fan of the FromSoftware formula, you'll find a few things to rescue, otherwise, I don't think this game is for you.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a two-dimensional action game built on the precepts of Japanese role-playing. It is an enjoyable "JRPG lite" that doesn't require a great deal of commitment, and presents an interesting and enjoyable universe in which you want to linger. A game that doesn't do anything wrong, but doesn't do anything particularly remarkable either, and which serves as a prequel to the eagerly awaited Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

Nintendo Switch Sports aims to bring back one of the most iconic Wii experiences, and it achieves this thanks to several implementations that improve some of the classic proposals of the series, and the presence of new sports that, football aside, have been very well interpreted. The negative note is given by a content that, despite having a pending update that will include golf in the autumn, is far from the most complete instalment of the franchise. However, it is still a safe value as a party game and comes at a reduced price.

7 / 10.0 - Weird West
Mar 31, 2022

Weird West presents itself as a videogame divided in two, composed of a duality that places it between the experimental and the tried and tested formula, presenting a really appealing proposal in everything that has to do with role-playing and player-world interaction, and attending to conventionalisms in terms of action. I have a bit too much of the latter, but I can't help but applaud its merits. Play it on PC, though.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a very successful translation of the spirit of the series to three-dimensional environments. A relaxed experience that shifts away from tension to focus on rhythm, and that climbs nicely to reach the epic level to which we are accustomed in the franchise's titles. Beautiful worlds, a soundtrack that makes it almost impossible to stand still, and many ideas to make surprise a constant. A remarkable videogame that will undoubtedly serve as a basis for the future of the franchise.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a parody of the role-playing board game Borderlands that, as a spin-off, fulfils both in terms of gameplay and the new progression systems, delivering a fun and addictive proposal that is halfway through the interpretation of its overworld. A remarkable game that I enjoyed, beyond the heavy text, because in the shooting and aesthetics it shows its greatest virtues.

10 / 10.0 - Elden Ring
Feb 28, 2022

Elden Ring is a superlative title, one of those works capable of becoming an event and becoming engraved in the collective imagination. It achieves this by remaining faithful to its formula and exporting its identity to the concept of the open world, achieving its own personal approach, resulting in a world that is visually stunning, and that works with overwhelming precision in terms of mechanics. An excellent videogame that also maintains the concreteness of its proposal.

Total War: Wahammer 3 closes a trilogy that is one of the best adaptations ever made to the strategy genre. An ambitious title that presents a huge and spectacular campaign along with multiple multiplayer options, while introducing important new features that significantly affect the development of the game. An excellent title for the genre that will delight fans of its universe.

8 / 10.0 - Sifu
Feb 6, 2022

Sifu aims to bring the essence of Kung-fu to the screen, and to the controls, with a combat system as demanding as it is inspired, set in an inspired space that draws on all the tropes that usually accompany this type of story. The result is an experience that achieves what it sets out to do, making each confrontation feel like a real duel between martial arts experts. A must for anyone who enjoys a good combat system.

8 / 10.0 - Aeterna Noctis
Dec 12, 2021

Aeterna Noctis is not just another metroidvania, its firm commitment to platforming and its lack of scruples when it comes to being demanding give shape to a video game with character that also stands out for its production values, its progression system, for displaying a world as beautiful as it is enormous and for a soundtrack of those that can be listened to over and over again.

Big Brain Adademy returns with an instalment that emphasises its multiplayer part, but falls short both in terms of options and content. What is available is good, but it is also insufficient at a time when it is easy to find more interesting proposals, both in terms of mental training and in terms of the party games catalogue. It's not a bad game, but it doesn't go beyond the minimum required.

7 / 10.0 - Solar Ash
Dec 1, 2021

‎Solar Ash does not hide his influences, moreover, he becomes strong in them. Do not expect an indie of those who seek to revolutionize classic proposals, rather it is the opposite. It is a title that knows how to mix with success some of the most interesting ingredients of the video games that serve as inspiration. But most of all, it's a remarkable three-dimensional platformer, and that's always good news.‎

‎Shin Megami Tensei V is a return through the big door. A delivery that modernizes the saga without depriving it of its flavor, its delicious roughness, or levels of demand that contribute decisively to draw an experience with character. Combat and high-flying exploration to enjoy for dozens of hours.‎

‎A new Mario Party is always good news for anyone who likes a few games at home in the company of friends. So, as usual, fun is guaranteed. But this installment gives off a degree of sloppiness that takes it too far away from the latest iteration of the franchise. Its value is subject to the desire you have to rediscover the mini-games it brings back. As a whole, the previous installment is far above.‎

Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water is back. That's good news, and while it's not the best in the series, I've enjoyed it like crazy. It still retains the authenticity of the franchise, which makes it a more than valid option for anyone who wants to approach a slightly different survival horror that has a unique approach, but at the same time tastes like a classic.

A few months ago, Humankind was presented as a candidate to become the benchmark of turn-based strategy for the next few years. Now, with a similar love for the story, but with a different tone, Age of Empires IV arrives to reposition the franchise in the Olympus of RTS. A title that knows how to pick up and update the essence of the saga, and that is the basis of a resurgence that seems to have a long life ahead of it. If you like the genre, clear your diaries.
