Isaiah Rosier's Reviews

I only recently began to review games, but I have been an avid player since the time of the NES. RPGs are probably my favorite genre, but I play a little bit of everything. I consider video games to be an artistic medium, like literature, film, or music, capable of rendering powerful characters and emotional stories. I look for depth in the story's writing and character development in every title I pick up.

I’m confident in saying that Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a game that easily and decisively manages to surpass its inspirations. The few stumbles it makes are the result of overconfidence in its own build. This confidence is rarely ever misplaced though, and is often to the benefit of the rest of the game. It takes its own status as the unofficial Jet Set Radio 3, runs with it, and then takes a victory lap just for kicks. Even after I had rolled the credits and saw what I presumed to be all the game could offer, it gave me even more on top of that. This is Team Reptile’s tour de force.

Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir is a must-play for fans of the original or platformers in general. Expertly written and well executed, the title played like some sort of grand theater, possessing a narrative that was both familiar but also new, filled with dynamic characters who interacted seamlessly not only with each other but also with the world itself. Don't let a few minor issues put you off, Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir is a top-tier action RPG effort that is more than worthy of your time.

Stranger of Sword City looked spectacular and introduced a few engaging new features along with hours of strategic combat, but a shallow storyline and slow progression prevented the game from shining. Most gamers could find something to enjoy with the title, but those who aren’t big genre fans may feel like it’s a long grind towards a lacklustre ending.

Arslan boasts great story and character concepts woven beautifully between stunning action sequences. Gameplay is straightforward, but a diverse cast of playable characters prevents too much monotony. The game is thoroughly enjoyable; however, a short campaign and lack of overall content will leave you wanting much more for your $60.

Most fans of the series will get some enjoyment out of Lost Song. The core gameplay elements are solid, but the superficial story and monotonous questing prevent it from being fun throughout.
