3 / 5.0 - MotoGP 14
Nov 11, 2014

Online is buggy, but amusingly so. It's hard to recommend MotoGP 14 to anybody but fans of the series curious to see how it shapes up on newer hardware.

MXGP is a mixed blessing of a game and those dying for a current-gen motocross game might be tempted by it. The solid controls and reasonably-exciting gameplay make it fun for a while, but the modes are far too similar with only surface-level changes beyond the overall length of the events to set them apart.

The actual amount of content added with the Storm Island DLC isn't Earth-shattering, but there are a lot of new events thanks to the new locale and some new vehicles made with this terrain in mind. It does, however, completely change the experience while still keeping things similar enough to enable an easy learning curve. Storm Island isn't exactly a desirable vacation destination, but it is a blast to play through in Forza Horizon 2. Anyone who has done just about all they wanted to do with the core game should pick this up because it gives you more top-shelf content and throws a new set of challenges into the regular game thanks to the muddy off-road setup.

The reworked zombies mode is just one reason to get the Havoc DLC pack. The best reason to get it lies in the four new maps, which have a lot of replay value not only for team deathmatch, but the other modes as well.

4.5 / 5.0 - The Deer God
Mar 2, 2015

The Deer God takes a somewhat strange concept and turns it into one of the most enjoyably relaxing games on the market. It combines platforming skills with a touch of action and an unbelievable amount of atmosphere.

4 / 5.0 - Tower of Guns
Apr 9, 2015

Tower of Guns is a brilliantly-crafted game that is seemingly forged from the tears of the players who fall to its traps. Gunfire will come your way from every direction, while platforming perils send you to do your death thanks to massive fall damage totals.

3.5 / 5.0 - Color Guardians
May 12, 2015

Color Guardians blends a variety of fast-paced genres together nicely. It controls perfectly and every set of stages changes things up enough to use the core runner/platformer/rhythm game template and keep it interesting.

Shantae: Risky's Revenge: Director's Cut could have used some help with its map system, but literally everything else is spot-on. Much like Shovel Knight and Mighty No.

2.5 / 5.0 - Coffin Dodgers

Coffin Dodgers is a heavily flawed game that winds up being ever-so-slightly greater than the sum of its parts.

3 / 5.0 - Roving Rogue

Roving Rogue is a good game that falls short of being exceptional. The game concept is executed well and it controls nicely, but the concept is a bit lacking.

The end result is something that might've been a slightly recommended purchase a decade ago, but there haven't been enough updates to warrant a purchase now for those who aren't fans of the original release.

4 / 5.0 - Xeodrifter
Aug 27, 2015

Xeodrifter condenses the core gameplay of Metroid into an experience that blends action and strategy without much filler and that doesn't waste a moment of the player's time in the process. The controls are smooth, while the animation and sound design fits the NES-to-SNES era that Renegade Kid loves to a tee.

3.5 / 5.0 - Ride
Oct 15, 2015

Ride has far more good points than bad. As a motorcycle racer, it's exciting and manages to stand out in a fairly crowded market. As a sim racing game, it's accessible and plays like a dream right away. It is hurt quite a bit by horrendous load times on the PS4 and many players on Steam have experienced issues with it — so it might be best to wait a while before buying that version. The PS4 version is solid, though, and worth a purchase for racing fans.

4.5 / 5.0 - The BIT.TRIP
Dec 19, 2015

The Bit.Trip is a must for anyone who owned any of the original games on the Wii, or heard of them and just wants to try them out. Their designs are simplistic in theory, but a riot to play. They challenge you constantly, but feature a gradual learning curve that never gets overwhelming. Every game included in this collection is fun to play in either short bursts or longer stretches. They play like a dream on the DualShock 4 and look better than ever before on the PS4 thanks to a widescreen presentation. They're also some of the best-sounding chiptune-based games out there.
