Mugen Souls Z makes the mechanics and the gameplay more understandable and less harsh for trying to have fun. Having it be uncensored and on the Nintendo Switch also helps out quite a bit! I recommend this game to all fans of the JRPG genre that doesn’t mind a little steamy fan service in their games.
Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is a great return to form for one of the most obnoxiously fun tactic based RPGS. If you were worried on the direction of the series based on Disgaea 6, take pleasure in knowing Disgaea 7 is a great addition to the beloved titles of old.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a masterpiece and is an amazing entry point into the world of Granblue Fantasy. The gameplay is engaging, the art design is immaculate, the music is amazing, and there is much to do in the game. I just wished the online component had more going on.
Sympathy Kiss has a premise that asks you what is more important. Is it having a good career or a good love life? Great artwork that has a small blemish on it due to posing the main character without their face in all shots. It also has short bite-sized routes that let you play through a lot of the routes.
ASTLIBRA Revision Gaiden: The Cave of Phantom Mist is an addicting game that will have roguelite fans and JRPGS fans alike excited to keep playing.
Persona meets Sailor Moon and it lands more times than not! Very good game and has an engaging story.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are exactly what you think of what a remake to a Pokémon game. Story unchanged, newer assets and more quality of life upgrades that make it fit in the modern era of gaming. It is still very much Pokémon.
Shadow Warrior 3 has some of the tightest controls in any shooter game I have played in recent memory. It has a fun plot with a lot of areas to kill demons in fun and engaging ways. Become the Jedi Spider-man if only for a few hours.
Atelier Sophie 2 adds a lot of new features that help engage the players of the previous Sophie title. Combat feels fresh with the support party member mechanics. One problem is the alchemy system needing prior knowledge of previous games to succeed.
Long Live the Queen is a fun strategy simulator game that adds a fun amount of replayability. It is challenging as a simulator but doesn't feel unforgiving as it gives you plenty of aid in establishing the route you want to go.
Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Definitive Edition is exactly what it claims. A definitive version of Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate that had been upgraded and put into a single purchase. It still has the problems of Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate but it is still the peak of Musou gameplay with content, characters and music.
Amnesia: Memories is a solid Otome game that shows a fun twist to think of how dating routes go. It has great art, and characterization, though the option of choice isn’t always very impactful.
The Darkest Tales is a solid action 2D Platformer with a twist on classic Fairy Tales. A fun short adventure that tells a story about a teddy bear trying to rescue its owner. Plus, how cool is a duel-wielding Teddy Bear? How much more do you want?
Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remastered is a well-done and polished remaster that allows the player a lot of freedom. Fans of the series will be delighted at the extra characters and storylines. It still suffers from 2005 visuals and 2005 voice acting but it is nostalgic in a way.
Neptunia: Sisters vs Sisters is an ambitious title that finally returns to the mainline series of Neptunia. Action based combat with still keeping skill setups from the previous games along with seamless transition from combat to traversal makes it a great step up to current generation hardware. The combat system without the passive effects of discs feel clunky, and the maps have plenty of reused designs but otherwise a solid entry into the series.
Hunt The Night has combines Legend of Zelda in its puzzles and exploration with Bloodborne in its difficulty and ambiance in a way that will attract fans of either series. Though it might turn off players who are not interested in a lot of difficult boss encounters.
Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord is a sequel game to the original Fairy Fencer F but with a totally new combat system. It is a competent strategy Role Playing Game and not overly difficult. The music mechanics make it stand out and a joy to listen to. The relationship between characters is not really explored as heavily as the first game.
Creepy Tale 3: Ingrid Penance is a short but worthwhile game that has some issues with making some of the puzzles kind of impossible to figure out without doing some trial and error, but overall I think it does quite well with the material it does have.
Death Becomes You is an engaging narrative that has a fun element of mystery, but I wish it had more magical elements and overall diversity of the routes. A must play for its price point of visual novel fans everywhere.
Affogato has a lot of great mechanics for exploration tied into its own coffee brew. There may be some difficulty spikes and a game that ties itself down after opening up, but overall it's a great time.
