Forza Horizon 5 is the first true next-gen production of Xbox Series X|S (excluding Flight Simulator). In terms of production, the work is truly impressive and can only exalt the talent and skill of Playground Games in knowing how to create a video game that is both enormous in content and technically astounding. The Mexican Horizon festival is a real love letter to car game lovers, as well as a beautiful postcard to one of the most beautiful settings ever seen in a video game. Forza Horizon 5 is a masterpiece that will leave you speechless at every KM and entertained at every turn, ready to take its place among the best games of 2021 and therefore deserving of our award.

DOOM Eternal is the quintessence of the shooter, a new starting point for the genre and a clear candidate for the game of the year 2020. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is without a doubt the most ambitious and huge LEGO title ever made by TT Games, a real act of love for those who love the popular Danish bricks and the whole Star Wars movie franchise. Its accessibility, without ever taking itself too seriously, makes it a videogame for everyone, capable of entertaining from the smallest audience to the most adult, confirming an experience for all ages and satisfying for everyone. Despite a turbulent development and many initial doubts, Halo Infinite succeeds where other FPS have failed: excite with a campaign level and entertain with a solid gameplay and well thought out. Remains the disappointment of some shortcomings at day one and especially a technical system suffering in many places and saved mainly by an unparalleled fluidity and an inspired art style. 343 has nevertheless managed to create a chapter ready to start again, through an incredible journey, decided more than ever to reconcile with the old fans of the saga and at the same time attract new potential users. The King of the first-person shooter on consoles is officially back, now the future is all in the hands of the American software company, which will have to prove that it knows how to manage and support the title for the next few years. Halo, is it over? No, this is just the beginning.

Dead Space is an authentic remake, revised and improved in every way from what we had come to love and appreciate back in 2008. EA Motive has not only lavishly improved the entire technical aspect of the original product, but has further enhanced the entire experience, making the Ishimura a frightening death trap, capable of terrorizing and concealing a story that is still fascinating today.

Reducing Starfield to a number is far from being easy. On the one hand we have Bethesda's most ambitious game ever with an overwhelming amount of content: full of secrets, quests, characters and casual adventures; on the other hand we have a title still anchored to old dogmas, with a high dose of proceduralism and some limitations that most critics will not appreciate. Nevertheless, Starfield is destined to become a new cult, capable of attracting millions of players for at least the next decade, just as Skyrim did before it, as well as being the first big star of Xbox's rebirth.

Alan Wake 2 is one of the greatest adventures of this generation; a game capable of finally daring from a narrative point of view, giving us a complex, layered, peculiar story full of pathos as in the best David Lynch stories. Sam Lake and his Remedy team have packaged an authentic work of art, surrounded by stunning visual impact and gameplay, which in its simplicity, works from start to finish. Were it not for the several bugs encountered on PC, we would be talking about a virtually perfect title. But Alan Wake 2 is nonetheless destined to become a milestone that we will talk about for many years, like a fine classic book or one of whose art films is so dazzling, it appears like a dream from which it is difficult to wake up.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is a solid sequel and one of the best structured open worlds of recent years. The great work on the level design enhances a huge and varied game world, where the gameplay evolves hand in hand with our choices, giving life to an extremely dynamic and never monotonous adventure. In spite of a revisable artificial intelligence and a visual impact between high and low, Techland has managed to create a production of absolute level, an experience destined to lay important foundations for a franchise, now more than ever projected towards a rosy and even more ambitious future. Considering the many references and the vicissitudes related to its development, the end result is undoubtedly less obvious than we would have thought, it is certainly not the revolution expected a few years ago, but certainly a fair evolution of a title that tries, often succeeding, to excel where others have failed in Action / Adventure.

Considering that it is the first work by Striking Distance Studios, the level reached by The Callisto Protocol is certainly very high. We are looking at one of the best audio-visual experiences of this generation, surrounded by gameplay that is anything but trivial and a truly noteworthy atmosphere.
