Wild Blue Skies does a great job of recreating and innovating on classic 90's on-rail space shooters. The design throughout is excellent and the gameplay is tight and engaging.
Agent 64: Spies Never Die is an impressive retro shooter with plenty of modern touches across the visuals, music, level design, and gameplay. It'll be a great time for anyone who grew up playing late 90's shooters.
Lies of P: Complete Edition brings the best Soulslike to the Switch 2. While it's a mostly coherent port, there are technical snags that drag the experience down. A possible day-one patch could iron out these issues, but if you're curious about Round8's debut title, the port is enjoyable as long as you stick to performance mode in the interim.
Midnight Moments may have won me over in a genre I normally don’t gravitate towards. I say may because I’m still playing it and working on more scenes filled with glowing streetlights, citizens chattering, and buildings where I can imagine almost anything happening inside.
It’s tricky to enjoy the main gameplay loop of a game like Hyperwired, but I struggled to find it consistently. There is a lot to dig into here, and I enjoyed quite a bit; it was just bogged down by a few too many systems. The game looks cool, sounds great, and has some fun ideas. I only wish they all came together in a stronger package overall.
Most of what Halo: Campaign Evolved does on a technical level is refine, not replace. And while the core gameplay is great, most of that already existed back in 2001.
Moss: The Forgotten Relic does a great job bringing two wonderful adventures to more players. It has a beautiful world and story with puzzles and action that are always rewarding.
Phonopolis really is like nothing I’ve seen before. If you think back to the days of Pixar and Toy Story, Jurassic Park, and early stop-motion films, the wonder and amazement the public had over those accomplishments should be seen here as well. The pure creativity and craft at work is the real draw. The gameplay isn’t anything too unique and isn’t all that complex most of the time, but it is still a good time. I came for the presentation and artistry, and stayed for what they brought to the table. Phonopolis is a perfect, shorter, and charming adventure I can easily recommend.
Voidling Bound provides lots of opportunities for fresh RPG mechanics that I had a fantastic time learning and mastering as I ungraded and customized my crew of unique creatures.
Mina the Hollower proves that time, effort, and attention to detail go a long way. Mina is a great new hero who controls incredibly well in a difficult but rewarding 2D adventure.
It may not be the deepest and most complex deck builder and RPG out there, but Echo Generation 2 has a ton to offer. The game's story is a fantastic sci-fi epic that lands nearly all of its themes and ideas, and the core gameplay loop is a lot of fun.
Nine lives later, Bubsy 4D does the best it can to revive a nearly forgotten franchise. The game may not be purrfect, but it's a big first step in reviving this snarky feline's 3D platforming adventures.
Wax Heads is more than just record sales behind a counter. It's about human and musical connection with great writing and characters, backed by a very good soundtrack, I'll be playing for months to come!
Its over-the-top approach to almost everything it offers you can feel overwhelming, but there's no denying just how fun it is to play! Dashing through stages that last mere moments is such a blast that I had a hard time putting down my Switch. It's a breath of fresh air to play a game that has something to say, but presents it in a style that we almost never see or hear anymore. Mullet MadJack is a wild ride and one that almost every FPS fan should play.
The Spell Brigade has delivered a 1.0 release that really does shine! Wizards and spells are abundant, and co-op play is a lot of fun. Though the core gameplay loop is a little too familiar at times, there’s no denying that this is still one of the best recent entries in a now crowded genre.
It's undeniable that Diablo 4 has grown into a far bigger and better game. The Lord of Hatred expansion is a massive step forward in end game content, new and exciting classes, and a dark and bloody campaign.
GRIDbeat! strikes a solid balance of arcade action and challenge for any type of gamer. Jump in for some solid tunes, stunning visuals, and well-crafted levels, or try to master its mechanics. Either way, you're bound to have a blast.
Timberborn is one of the most interesting city builders in years with a charming style, unique lore, and mechanics that are easy to understand but tough to master.
Planet of Lana 2 is a gorgeous sequel that does all the right things with its puzzles and story, building a rich history with complex layers and characters.
There's a lot of variety and some cool new approaches to the beat'em up throughout Scott Pilgrim EX. The roster of heroes and enemies is amazing, and the adventure they go on is one only the Scott Pilgrim universe can truly provide.
