70 / 100 - Paper Trail
May 24, 2024

Honestly, it would be a shame to miss out on such a delightfully frustrating game, even if you aren't into puzzle games. I have to say though, if you are looking for a game to destress with, [Paper Trail] isn't the one.

[Tales of Kenzera: ZAU] has its hiccups, but the music scores, the vocals, the beautiful settings, its overall feel; it really makes you feel empowered. The "I CAN DO ANYTHING" kind of powerful! For a simple baby-level Metroidvania gamer like me, I enjoyed it for what it is.

The art style is seemingly minimalistic but that's what makes it shine. Even the music really sets the mood for your assassination. I'm honestly impressed that all this was done by a solo developer. [...] Unlike a shot in the dark, Children of the Sun is a banging good time that stimulates your puzzle senses while delivering its premise with precision.

80 / 100 - Bears in Space
Mar 24, 2024

All in all, Bears in Space is honestly an amazing game just to kick up and shoot the crap out of things, while also being entertained with its brand of humour. Think High On Life but actually solid in the gameplay department and arguably more funny!

Death Trick: Double Blind really did keep me in suspense, and I was impatient to figure out who did it in this mystery storyline. But like I said, this is definitely what you want in a mystery visual novel; the sense of guessing and well-woven narrative that keeps you in suspense! You feel completely involved, and makes you feel like an ace detective even for a second. In all honestly, I still can't find anything jarringly negative to say about this visual novel because I genuinely enjoyed every lovingly written & designed part of it.

Let's just say that with all that's on tap here and experienced for 20+ hours, I'll be sticking around for this timesink.

I may not have played all of the Like A Dragons series, but this one...This one I honestly had tons of fun with. [...] While it may be daunting for newbies like myself, it's worth jumping into the deep end and rolling with it. Because once its metaphoric dragon jaws snag you, it's hard not to get immersed and enjoy the levity and drama Sega offers in its crime-slash-fun-time gameplay set in a bold tropical landscape.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a beautiful burst of fantasy anime colours with a good amount of substance to keep your action RPG tendencies sated. The wait for its release was a long one, but in gameplay, character selection, and music, it delivers to its fans and any action RPG fan looking for a Monster Hunter-like clone without the control "nuances". For first-time players of this franchise, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is a good start. It may not be Final Fantasy but damn I felt that every hour I spent playing was not wasted.

You will fail many times and you will also succeed many times. How it happens, well, it's all different. You will never lose the same way. The roguelite element is a delight. Even in failure, you learn something that will help you in the next playthrough. [...] Against The Storm is wonderfully done, with each playthrough feeling fresh. Even though I am terrified of the Queen's wrath, and the storm, come what may, I will run it back over again.

90 / 100 - SteamWorld Build
Nov 27, 2023

Every aspect of Steamworld Build feels meticulously designed. The goals are clearly emphasized so you don't get lost. Even dragging and dropping units is satisfying, and arranging paths or placing mining equipment functions perfectly well. The interaction between the above-ground and below-ground elements feels well-paced and thoughtfully designed. The familiar art style of the series shines through in every little detail, with its bright and eye-catching colours that make every aspect of the game absolutely loveable.

Phantom Rose 2 Sapphire is a fun roguelike deckbuilding game that you can enjoy in quick bite sessions or longer plays. The game's mechanics are easy to pick up which is nice for new players to the genre, and this lets you progress smoothly while challenging you hard. The variety of cards adds excitement to strategic and challenging battles, so that helps with the replay value exponentially.

70 / 100 - Endless Dungeon
Oct 19, 2023

Endless Dungeon however is a very surprising mix of genres that works pretty damn well as a whole. At times, it can be a bit frustrating when the random elements seem to conspire against you entirely. But damn does it feel good when you destroy a bunch of baddies your way and finish a level. Endless Dungeon boasts an impressive lineup of heroes, a diverse array of monsters, and outstanding co-op play. It's a bold fusion that makes every door worth opening.

Immortals of Aveum feels like a bunch of different ideas all smushed up together to make one game; none of it feels cohesive or even forms a standout experience. The storyline is something you see coming, although it does it in a way that still makes you want to play it out to see it actually happen, despite the horrible combat and puzzles you have to go through to get there. Despite all of its drawbacks, which is quite an enormous amount, I did somehow find myself enjoying little parts of the game. But just a fraction; not enough to recommend it to people in good faith.

Ghost Trick: Detective Phantom is one of those rare gems that shows you standalone games can exist, and you don't need follow-ups. It's rewarding. It's fun. And they've got a cute darn pomeranian trying to protect its owner with its life. What's not to like about it?

40 / 100 - Redfall
May 6, 2023

While the game's "early access" state means that its technical issues can be fixed, Redfall's major problem is that its makers do not know what makes this type of shooter work. Maybe Arkane did not have enough time to properly make it, or maybe they shipped it a year too early. Whatever the case, this just feels like an obligation project, with its team woefully inept at figuring out why this genre of shooters functions in the first place. From its uninspired and not-so-hot loot system, its broken combat, its empty world, and ho-hum-to-boring missions that are poorly designed, there is really no sane reason why you should play Redfall. Well, apart from mild curiosity and the fact that you can subject yourself to the suckfest for free on Game Pass.

You will not notice the negative parts of Minecraft Legends when you first start playing it. As you keep at it after an hour or two, you will soon realize that the world is just a hollow mimic of the original. I was told the game was made to be catered to kids, but the gameplay feels too overwhelming.
