A Game of Thrones: The Board Game - Digital Edition
Top Critic Average
A functional, basic board game port isn't enough to truly shine off the tabletop.
So is the Dance With Dragons DLC good? Yeah, absolutely! Does it reshape the game? Maybe, arguably, a little bit. Not much. Does it give you more ways to play an already fun game? You bet! But is it worth it? That I do not know my friend. All I know is that thing about winning or dying, and with this new DLC I’ve won quite a bit.
Game of Thrones has turned into a very weird franchise, but I know there are still fans out there- I am one of them! And it is unfortunate that the best video game we’ve gotten up until now was a mid-tier Telltale adventure. Until something else comes along (like a really good Crusader Kings 3 mod), this is it. This is the best Game of Thrones gaming experience. You’ll know what I mean when you take Harrenhal, only to lose it the next turn. Or the first time you defend Winterfell as Theon Greyjoy. Game of Thrones: The Board Game is the best way to feel like a devious genius of Westeros.
Ultimately, A Dance with Dragons is an excellent addition to what was an already content-rich game. The new cards complement the fast-paced nature of the altered rule set well, and is well-suited to those who want an extra challenge. Fans of A Game of Thrones: The Board Game - Digital Edition would be wise to get their hands on this expansion as soon as possible.
If you like Game of Thrones for its war strategies and characters, or simply just thought the opening credits to every episode looked cool, you’ll probably like playing this game. The fact that it’s less than half the cost of the actual board game, has numerous UI and QoL improvements, and more importantly, includes a very fun campaign, makes this game a must-buy for any Game of Thrones gamers or fans. Excellent all-around.
