EVERSPACE 2 Reviews
Everspace 2 brings gorgeously rendered ships and a middling story, but can't quite make up its mind about being a space sim or a loot shooter RPG. Visually impressive, narratively and mechanically constrained, it could have been so much better.
Everspace 2 does have some repetitive content and the story is a tad underwhelming, but the content loop is about as enjoyable as you’ll find anywhere with satisfying combat, thrilling exploration and discovery, and some intriguing puzzles to solve. It looks incredible, sounds wonderful and there are few space exploration games that are as approachable and engaging as this one, with even fewer able to cross genres so successfully.
This is a sequel that has truly outdone itself. While some fans may prefer the original rogue-like experience, this iteration delivers unparalleled performance and next-level immersion.
Everspace 2 isn’t perfection, but much like your favorite kid, it doesn’t need to be. At the end of the day, it’s an enjoyable experience that will give back what you put into it.
Everspace 2 is a solidly successful sequel, offering players more of what they loved from the first game while shifting away from the rogue-like trappings. The game provides a larger world with higher stakes, improved story, and more ship customization options.
Everspace 2 then is overall a competent space-combat based looter-shooter in the sheepskin of a space-combat sim. Come to it knowing what to expect and there’s a good few dozen hours of simple fun to be had, but I’m not convinced it has the systemic depth to truly rival either the looter-shooter or space-sim heavyweights on their own turf.
Already in Early Access, Everspace 2 offers great gameplay, a fun story and a beautiful space environment. If you're a fan of space shooters, RPGs and open world exploration, then this is the game for you.
