Sumatra: Fate of Yandi Reviews
Sumatra: Fate of Yandi offers good point-and-click puzzles, but I found the tonal shift in its tale unappealing. I think the game isn't long enough to be thought-provoking in the way intended. While I saw enough good things here that I'll keep an eye out for the devs future point-and-click games, they might be better served by lighter plots to match the shorter lengths.
Harkening back to the classic early pixel art point-and-click adventure, Sumatra: Fate of Yandi has some elements that are satisfying...
I’ve played plenty of point-and-click adventures of varying qualities over the years. Some will stick with me forever (I’m looking at you, Monkey Island) but others aren’t so memorable. Sumatra: Fate of Yandi falls into the latter category. Whilst it isn’t bad, it did nothing exciting to help it stand out in what is already a crowded genre.
Sumatra: Fate of Yandi is a title that manages to please not only fans of adventure, puzzle and point and click games. The game is fun, pulsating and touching, presenting a plot full of mysteries and adventures. What makes Sumatra unique is how the mechanics and puzzles tied to narrative elements work together to tell a story of celebration to the family and real friendships. Mainly because it reminds us of the safest place of all that we always yearn to return: our home.
