Critic Reviews for Backworlds

With great visuals, a novel gimmick, and well-designed puzzles, Backworlds is sure to be an enjoyable experience for fans of the genre. Unfortunately, the issues plaguing the drawing controls ultimately get in the way of a fairly solid package. If you don't mind adapting to a slightly awkward control scheme, Backworlds is a very good title that is well worth your time.

As someone who enjoys a good well thought out puzzle game, Backworlds ticks all my gaming boxes. Backworlds has intuitive controls, a great soundtrack, and is pleasant to look at and really fun to play. The puzzles are really inventive, requiring some lateral thinking without being impossibly difficult, and are never tedious. All fans of the puzzle genre should try out Backworlds, I definitely recommend it on its new home, the Nintendo Switch!

Overall, Backworlds is a short and sweet game that offers up ample amounts of wholesomeness and challenge in the best way. Painting your way through the world isn’t just a gimmick; it’s an integral part of the game, which is important for niche travel mechanics. Plus, there are a few surprises in-store, including teleportation. So if you’re looking for a game to play on the go and puzzles to keep you focused, then Backworlds is definitely for you. A port from the PC, this one takes full advantage of the way you play your Switch and just works.
