Critic Reviews for Headland

A fast-paced and easy-to-navigate game, there is never a dull moment in Headland. Levels don’t take forever to clear. Rewards are not impossible to earn, and death and failure are forgivable. Headland has a simple plot with a fearless protagonist. It features quick battles without requiring players to think deeply about their actions and choices. Though it may not have a memorable story, Headland provides more than a momentary enjoyment for would-be adventurers.

Headland is a simple but cute and well-made action adventure game, populated with cute characters, colourful settings and a surprisingly heart-warming message.

Headland won’t set your world on fire, but it will provide you with a pleasant way to spend a couple of afternoons. This cute, colourful adventure isn’t about challenging or testing you in any way; it’s simply about having fun, exploring, and helping a young boy fix a robot. Aww.

Headland is a functional experience, but it lacks enough clever ideas or impact to make a lasting impression.

Headland is a cute game with a heartwarming narrative that is just simply enjoyable. It doesn't hit high highs and the only real brushes with low lows are the dregs of the combat. I'd most recommend it if you have a younger gamer in your household looking for a charming romp with a positive message about creativity.

Headland is an enjoyable game that I did have fun with. Of course, you can go back to each level to increase your score and find any secrets you may have missed, but that’s about it for replayability. I do have one gripe about the game’s price on the Switch. For a game priced at £4.99 in the App Store, I’m not sure the price of the Switch port at £17.99 is fully justified.

Headland is an action adventure journey into the imagination. Although not breaking any new ground in the genre, the story, gameplay and combat is exciting and suitable from any age player. It’s full of vibrant colour, an endearing story and secrets to uncover that are worth spending your time on.

Overall Headland on the Switch sits at a slightly odd place. It’s a budget game but at too high a price, with very basic graphics but some pleasantly surprising depth to the combat and character build options. It’s certainly kid friendly, and good training wheels for someone looking to move onto challenging fare, but hard to recommend on this platform when it’s available elsewhere at far better value for money.
