Overall, this Geppy-X release makes a once-rare PlayStation mecha game accessible to new players, especially with its all-new localization. The game is still fun to play, if a bit simple and easy for a shooter, but the sheer passion and super robot-infused nerdiness still make this worth getting.
70s Style Robot Anime: Geppy-X feels more like an experience mainly because it’s so much more than just the video game here. What makes this game succeed is the great combination of the anime visuals, music, and storytelling and without those crucial items, I doubt if Geppy-X sees a remaster in the first place.
All in all, 70s Style Robot Anime Geppy-X is a very cheesy game. However, it’s also fun as hell. Every time the vocals on a boss theme kick in, my heart starts thumping. If you’re a fan of mecha or shooters, definitely check it out.
For me, this is what game preservation is all about: exposing a new audience to a cult classic, lovingly repackaged with the care and attention it deserves.
